As you gain level and group with people some of them will be in guilds. After a while you learn who are the good players and who you like grouping with, then you ask some questions about the guild that you feel is important to you. My preferences would be:
- Raiding guild or family guild?
- What are the peek playtimes for the most people in guild?
- How many players are there in the guild?
- How do I put in an application? (some use a webpage for that, like my guild).
- Guildlevel?
- Avg lvl of PC's in guild?
- Tell me why I should join. What is good with this guild?
Might be something that sliped my mind.
If you are not to particular about your guild, check out SoE's homepage and search for guilds on your server. Send leaders a tell with a few questions.

As my humble experience, 4 years of eq1 (just starting eq2 and i'm a bit disappointed but i lose my point), it's usually the guild who find you, not you who find the guild. At least for good guild who prefer to see how a player play (roleplay or skilled player) to choose to take him with them or not.

hey bumbiragnar i herd you are on the faydark server. as am i. i was wondering are you part of a guild? what play times do you have? and is it a raid guild? i come from eq1 and i am used to raid guilds and dont like the family ones all that much. and could i geta link to your guilds webpage? i used to play a guild called gaurdians of the mossylog on eq1 but they went under after a series of failed raids in zek. or so i herd. i quit after the 5th failed raid as it was not planed very well and we had massive wipes. i am curetly in a guild called paradox warriors but we are too small for my tastes and we have never raid much to my disapointmet. and alot of the people play at difrent times.

I was invited to the one I am in now. We did have quite a few active members, but after that /movelog we lost about half the members (and over a level of exp). Don't know if they just got mad and quit the game or what.

I think this early in the game it is kinda hard to tell who is going to become the Elite guilds so to speak. But if you get into a guild that seems to be fairly active go for it.

Something also to consider if your under lvl 15. If you become a patron and do writs for your guild, they are ALOT easier before lvl 15 then after. Pretty much any writ I have done past 15 has involved higher lvl grouped mobs in stormhold or Blackburrow, as where pre 15 was killing soloable mobs in antonica usually.

I agree with BumbiRagnar and Felinfilou. You can actively search for a guild if you know what you are looking for. Just keep grouping and if you like the way someone plays then send em a tell regarding their guild. However, IMO the better guilds are a bit more particular about recruiting and must at least group with you first. This kinda eliminates the /shout hey im looking for a guild. My biggest recommendation is to take note of the guilds that are doing the /shout recruitment. Those tend to gather undesireable players by the masses. Not always, but a lot of the time.

The recruitment standard for the guild I am an officer in is based on grouping and/or recommendation. If you are grouped with me and I like you I will send you a tell with a few questions. If the answers all add up I'll ask if you would like an invite. Maybe it's one of our guildies that's grouped with you and you ask them some questions. Then they come to an officer and ask us to invite. The only thing I ask of the current guildy is if they give a recommendation for that person. If it's a yes, then I'll invite em. I've only ever invited one person that just sent me a random tell inquiring about the guild and I made him wait 2 days while I chatted with him in tells.

Best of luck with your guild search and I hope you find one you like.
