i think they should make orcs a playable race, i mean look at how cool they look. It would be a great expansion.

I did play an orc in old EQ, briefly.

I do not lie.

Betcha think I am, but I'm not.

"How is this possible?" you must be thinking.

Well, as an experiment - and we're talking... I wanna say after Kunark and before Velious (but I'm not ironclad sure on that), they had a brief deal where you could come in as a monster.

You had no choice over what it was or where it was. You couldn't talk, initiate attack or anything like that. You could walk around. And adventurers, if they saw you, could and did come up and kill you.

Now, I was a lot of critters. I have no specific memory of being an orc, to tell you the truth, but I'm pretty sure I was once a gnoll pup somewhere. And I might have been an orc pawn. Mostly I was rats and stuff. Anyone else remember this?

In a way you can.

I have seen players with an Orc illusion in Antonica. Either that or they seriously need an orthodontist.

However for a "playable race" you need newbie areas, quests, etc, etc. A massive investment of time for a relatively slender return.

Personally I have no idea how they are going to re-integrate frogloks without such an effort - perhaps they arrive en-masse in Qeynos - and less idea why they would bother.

Yes! It was only on the Test server, and there was a little button you could press when logging in... I don't remember what it said anymore, but it allowed you to play a monster. You could only be a low-ish level, though, I think it was 15 and under, and you could gain experience and get stronger, but only up to a certain level (again, I think 15 was the ceiling). I was a gobby in Runnyeye, a giant spider in Oasis, a black bear in East Commonlands, a skunk in Butcherblock, a pixie trickster in GFay, and yes, an orc pawn, also in GFay.

That was a BLAST! You could chase normal players around, or other mobs, who were sometimes real players (when I was a giant spider, another giant spider started chasing me - fun!)

If I recall correctly, it was shortly after Velious came out - but I can't be 100% sure. I wish they'd left that in, just for fun.

THat would have been COOL...

I mean how many raids have you been on where Lord Nagafen or Lady Vox says "DING".. raid wipe and the mob levels up? hehehehehe

I loved playing EQ I before Omens... then I saw a guy in the Infinite Odessey Guild (Veeshan Server) get PLed buy a group of guildies...

They were running around getting a 51st LVL Paladin "PUMPED UP" Arnold style... That paladin was Hall of Honor flagged...

Anyways, about 3 days later I am in the Permafrost waiting /LFG and killing time... Here comes that Paladin... He gets raid buffed and goes in and SOLOS Lady Vox... drops her like a bad habit! I **** you not!

I was sick...

I asked him later how he did it... he had over 150AA... thats just disgusting...

So playing a dragon would be really cool but everyone would want to zapp your @ss...

I believe it lol. Out of the 2-3 years I played EQ1, I never saw a dragon =(. Sucks huh? Anyways, I wish I could've participated in the "Pick Your Mob" game. I would've been a decaying skeleton on a rampage!

I played EQ1 for 3 months and became timflagged and lvl 70..
They made it easy to become high level fast in the end when they added bonusxp in certain zones etc.
Joined a guild at just the right time when they where backflagging and whoopie, quarm here I come!
Never got to kill him though since the guild moved to EQ2 just after we took down the squid.. Raided Plane of time once.. :(

You pretty obviuosly had alot of powerleveling and a guild pulling you through all the upper level stuff and backflagging...and then you call the game to easy? Man, I would say play it for real before making a comment like that, but after EQ2 newbies don't really exist there to make groups and raids.

I have good news. According to the datastream they intend to make Orcs a playable race. All monsters you kill, animals etc have a race id of 255. where as all playable races have their own unique race ids. and orc is one of them. I was surprised to see this and my only explanation is it will one day be playable. It's the only race thats got its own id that isnt currently playable.

Made it to lvl 70 in three months... gawd, that is fast.

I wonder if old EQ needs to start losing servers - some form of server consolidation.

I would so love to play an orc. If it ever does happen what do you all think the racial stats will be? Also wouldnt they have to make a new area in Freeport or something?

Why would an orc want to live in a city who's citizens have probably killed a few million of his people?

Orc refugees in Qeynos would be more plausible. :)
