This is another short story about somebody getting loot they shouldn't have.

Anyways I was in a group inside of stormhold and the leader had forgot to put lotto loot on. We was busy with non stop pulls and he just never did get around to putting it on. Well nothing major was dropping, just normal merchant junk.

Well then we get a chest drop and this person immediately loots it. The item was a sword of thunder (maybe sword of storms?) off a skeliton near the chessboard. Everyone in the group felt we should /random this item since it was a rare drop. Well the leader just stands there while the group randoms. After about 3 minutes of "Are you there" and "Hello??" he says something about ok lets head back. Then everybody tells him he needs to random and he just stands there againf or about a minute before saying "What for?" Finnally after a good 5 minutes of debating and telling him how to random he randoms and he loses. I happened to be the person with the highest number and the group did the usual "Grats" etc. Then he comes over to me and just stands there. HE claims the item is NO TRADE. Several members of the group agree that they have seen this item for sale and that it is tradeable.

So then we ask him to link it so we can see it. Now this guy is level 19ish and he don't know how to link. So everybody tells him to drag it to the text area and release and it will link. Id say every bit of 10 minutes go by and he can't link the sword. So finnally I just tell them forget about it cause I had to go anyways.

Sounds to me like he was playing dumb, but does anybody know if this sword is indeed no trade? I looked around on the site and didn't see nothing on it. If it is indeed NO TRADE it will be the first weapon/armor that I have seen drop that wasn't tradeable??

It just seems odd the way he acted about it, constantly delaying etc.

Absolutely sounds like he was stalling because he didn't want to give it up. Looks tike the only trick he didn't pull was to yank the plug and go LD. I would add him to /ignore just on GP.

That's what the dropped sword becomes when you complete the quest. The drop is "Sword of Thunder" and it is tradable.

Realize however, once someone examines this sword, it becomes a placeholder item, either still called "Sword of Thunder" or "Berrik, Sword of Thunder". I haven't been able to confirm exactly which name is used (never got the drop yet). More information can be found in the quest section of the official forums as there's a lot of threads about this sword. Anyway, once it's examined, it is useless to anyone else as it will no longer give the quest. The placeholder item should still be tradable, so be wary and don't get scammed.

*added*
I may be wrong about the placeholder still being tradable. Still, just be careful.

There was no berik in front of the name, it was just sword of thunder. I figured he screwed us over. I wasn't going to name names till I was sure he scammed us. I believe his name was Dreamweaver, im about 90% sure. He is on my friend list (although obviously not a friend). If I am wrong I will repost with his name. Although I doubt it will do any good I am going to petition him. Member of the group told me I should /ooc this story in antonica, but I don't plan on becoming a spammer.

I have to say players in Eq2 so far have proved to be the most greedy of them all. I guess this is expected in a new game. Very few people are truely "Rich" in this game ATM.

Almost got scared there for a while.. Thought I knew the guy. But the guy I know is called Dreamsweaver and is not on the grobb server. My friend sure isnt a noob but a really good player, in EQ1 he was the best chanter I ever grouped with.

Well, that was abit OT..
Even if this guy didnt do anything on purpose I still wouldnt group with him again, if you are lvl 19 and are such a noob it means, to me, that you are not willing to learn to play.
I love helping noobs that wants to learn but this guy just dont seem willing to learn.
That, or he is 8 years old and dont speak english as first language.. O,o

Well I talked to the guy again yesterday told him what I found. At first he got abit nasty with me, then he said he had examined the sword and clicked the quest and that is why it couldn't be traded.

He claims he just examined the sword and it automatically gave him the quest. I would think you would have to click I Accept or something, but anyways its done and over. I just wanted to see if he was faking it or not. I guess there is a good chance he truely didn't know what he was doing when he accepted the quest.

That still doesn't explain why he couldn't tell you that at the time.

I've yet to see a quest that gave itself to you after item examination without asking. He might not have been aware that it would make the item NO-TRADE but he must have known that it would not be possible for others to get the quest from it.

The story made me wonder if he understood perefectly about lotto and just pretended not to understand so he didn't have to turn it on.

Most of us have probably looted something by mistake at some time in our MMO careers. the normal impulse is to apologise and try and make amends.

If there was no lotto, then /random is the only optoin. I had something interesting happen to me the other night. A nice staff fell in ToV but we were using lotto all day. So I win the staff, then another member begins griping about doing an additional /random. I just ignore him. Ultimately the group breaks up and he asks if I plan to keep the staff. "Yes" I tell him. "Then you should have done /random for it but I guess it means a lot to you."

So, this dunce lost the lotto and then wanted an ADDITIONAL /random on top of that. Lotto IS nothing more than a /random handled by the game. If someone forgets to turn it on or if someone who can't use the item at all gets it and decides someone else should, then you can go to /random. But don't demand it just becuase you lost the initial lotto.

Sounds like a scam artist. But you are slightly at fault. Because early on, when he didn't set lotto right away, you should have insisted. When he still didn't do it, you should have insisted again, and then left the group. You knew at that point that he was going to ***** you, and you should have left and not given him the opportunity.

Or you chose to stay because you were having fun and didn't care about drops.

In either case, you should have been anticipating this right from the start.

I always forget to set lotto when I start a group. I accept that it happens for the first drop, I solo a lot and duo a lot, and in neither case use lotto, so I forget. 1 drop is an honest mistake.

That's for 1 drop. Any more than 1 drop and the person isn't making an error, they are going to ***** you.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he screwed up, examined sword, and got the quest.

Let this be a lesson to be learnt for you. If the leader has not turned on lotto, then the group should not continue to fight and kill mobs. You asked for it. By continuing to fight and kill mobs, you are endorsing his system.

The moral of the story is go into your group options and set the default loot option to lotto NOW. Then you don't have to remember to set it each time you start a group. And make sure it's set when you aren't leader too...
