This is something that I have been thinking about. What Bonus does this actually give a player to attune something to them ?

The item will not give you any benefit if it is not attuned. You can wear it, but you wont get the AC or the stats from it until you attune it.

Once you attune it, however, you cannot trade/sell it.

Hmm, then attuning the equipment is the better thing to do, Unless you what to just sell the equipment.

Do you at least get any kind of stat increase if you don't attune it ?

You get no bonus if the item is not attuned. It is basically inactive.

Which is worthless in my opinion. The stats on attunable items are pretty much the same as the same level gear you can get that doesn't require you to attune it. Now, it attuning gave you 100 more AC or +5 more stats, I would agree, attune.

I used to just sell all of my attunable gear. All of my Fury quested armor was sold.

Some stuff, however, might be worth attuning. Such as items with permanent or clicky effects.

The point of attuning is so that you can do a quest if the reward is not something you can/want to use you can sell it to someone who does not want to bother with the quest, but once attuned it can't be reused. This is to keep the number of the item down and remove reuse which may impact other items.

Attuning isn't supposed to give you a bonus beyond what "you can get that doesn't require attuning." The point is to allow you to trade the item if you have no plan to use it. It's way to include NO DROP items (with all the logic that goes behind that) that allows for a reasonable exception. It's a perfectly good idea.

Like others are saying in here, I just wish attunable items were worth attuning.

There are so many cool things items could do besides just boosting AC and stats.

Procs, a small percent of retaliating if hit (like a DS that only occasionally works), a small percent of a small heal if hit, a small percent chance of doing cure noxious if hit or proccing in combat, and so on.

A matching suit of armor that builds in power the more pieces you get.

Note, I'm not asking for items that make you over powered. The game should be designed so that as players grow in power they rise to meet built in challenges, as opposed to becoming too uber. So far I've yet to see a single item I really "must have". I might do a few of the AQ's... but player made armor of tier 3 isn't all that bad and isn't very expensive if you have made artisan friends...

Just wanted to point this out again. Smiley: smile

For those that didn't play EQ1, attunable items were introduced there a while back. It was to cut down on the No Drop (No Trade, No Value in EQ2 speak) items, but still have some way to keep too many of said item from flooding the game.

I imagine it will also be helpful for raid mobs. Can have a guild leader/officer loot the mob then hand out the loot to the various people who need it. Basically Attune is meant for items that they want to be NO DROP. This way you can go ahead and loot it, but if you do decide to use it your keeping it forever.
