An Idea about the maps...Follow

What would you people think of a new skill called cartography??
Allow players to scribe their maps from teh map screen to an actually item... make it a transerrable object.

I would gladly pay 2-5sp for a map of the blackburrow... I hate not know which way is the exit...

Yea, any sort of map system would have been good for those zones that don't have them.

EQ has a full cartography interface from an expansion quite a while ago. They must have made a decision not to include that kind of thing (or to preserve it for a future expansion).

What they have given us is definitely not the best they can do.

I have a great idea for the maps: actually implement them. They can be drops off of mobs in that area. Or auto-draw them as you explore. Having no map for an area that you have explored a 100 times is annoying.

or at the very least.. a modest quest to obtain the map for a particular area:

could make it a series of discoveries.. say you find a book on a mob in the area that has you go through a series of discoveries to "map" the area out.. and once you do that you've got it.

or if they wish to keep with the lore.. have a quest that begins by telling of some guy who decided to re-discover norrath after the shattering and you've been sent out to follow his footsteps by visiting various places he has been rumored to have visited...

but yeah.. not having a map to these places after re-visiting them so many times is annoying...

Another way they could improve the map system would be to start the dungeon maps black. After each time you pass an area it could lighten up to some degree....start off after the first trip thru a very dark grey where you can barely make anything out....and each successive trip thru the area the map would lighten that area up even further.

This would mimic reality a bit more, as each time you pass an area it makes sense for that area to be more familiar to you.

Another thing they could do is have a quest in each zone that does not have a map that you have to complete to finish it. Of course the harder the zone the harder it is to complete.
