Need help running game, please help meFollow

#1 Jan 24 2005 at 6:52 AM Rating: Decent
This is a noob question I know, but i'm horrible with computers. My friend got me this game and has been dying for me to try it but i'm having problems. The game installs but before it was complete i got this message:
"This machine appears to be below minimums and EQ2 will not operate"
"Texture 2 < 4"
"Pixel Shader Version 0x0000 < 0x0101"
"Video Memory 31meg < 64meg"

I'm assuming this means i'm pretty much out of luck but i'm bad with technical specs and wondered if there's anything I can do to meet these requirements, plzzz someone help me. :(

I *think* you just need a new video card, and this isn't that big a deal. One that does the pixel shading. Someone else posted that a standard - was it a gateway? Anyway this standard pc came w/ a not so good vid card that didn't do pixel shading - and has been a big problem for people who have it and want to play eQ2. Sorry.

You can set virtual mem ... and I totally forgot how I did it - but I think it was somewhere in Control Panel/ system properties/ advanced/ performance options. There u can up virtual memory - your machine should be able to up it more. If not you can buy more memory and then use this to get more virt mem.

If this doesn't help maybe someone else who knows more can help u. GL!

Am I able to download a video card or is it something I need to purchase?

Given that a video card is a physical object you need to install inside your computer, you will not be able to downloadit. You need to buy one from a computer store.

This is snipped from the Hardware Requirements-thread on the official forum:

What are the minimum hardware requirements for running EverQuest II?
Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Processor: 1 GHz
RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible; pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of texture memory
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware

What are the reccomended hardware specifications for the game?

Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Processor: 2 GHz or greater
RAM: 1 GB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible; pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 128 MB or more of texture memory
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware

What type of video card will I need for EQII?
You will need a card that supports DirectX 9 features, such as pixel and vertex shaders.

Does that include the Nvidia GeForce MX line of cards?
Unfortunately the GeForce 4 MX cards are not supported because they do not have pixel and vertex shaders.

Will having a graphics card with 256MB be worthwhile?

Yes, having 256MB of RAM on the card does make a difference. Basically, more memory lets you run higher-quality textures without swapping them, thus increasing performance.

You need to order a video card that supports DirextX 9 and pixel and vertex shaders.
That's probably the long and short of it. Good luck.

Alright, I gotta be close to guru with computers by now. Do this first. Go to Start at the bottom left of your screen, click RUN and in the blank type Dxdiag. This will let me know the specs on your computer. Tell me what it says next to "processor" and "Memory". Then click on the "Display" tab at the top. And it should say "Device" Inside the Device box, look next to "Name", and then tell me what video card you have. Most likely, you have a VERY old computer if you're running a video card of that quality. Anyways, get all that posted up and I'll tell you what you need. Good luck, I gotta go to work now.

Just looks like a new Video Card is what will solve your problems, you have a decent processor and ram size.

Try lookin into like the Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 or 5700LE.

Like 125-150 bucks.

I definitely 2nd Sly on all the above. I just wanted to add that if you happen to have another $50-$75 just laying around, over and above what Sly mentioned, you could get an nVidia card in the "6600" series. That will give your system a little more longevity, and better EQ2 performance as well.

You didn't mention anything about budget so I thought I'd throw that out there. I'm personally using a 6600GT (from Gigabyte) and it's the best card I've ever owned.

Someone may wanna suggest a cheaper card to the OP - they may be on a budget. Sounds like they might need help getting it installed - they may ahve to buy it from a store that helps w/ this - a lotta folks are intimidated about opening up their own PC - me included. If the other gnome of EvilGnomes didn't love doing it, I'd still be playing Zork on my old Mac....

" Nvidia supports EQ2!!!!!"

P.S.,
Our entire MX line doesn't work.
Isn't that marketing for ya?

Alright sir,

I know of an even cheaper one that can get you playing the game, you can't have the highest of quality settings but you can play and its not as bad as I kinda made it out to be with the above statement.

ATI Radeon 9600SE, currently sells for like $97.99 ...that works and its a decent card, plays FFXI...etc; etc;
