advantages to craftingFollow

ive been playing different MMORPGs for a few years now, and i was wondering about crafting in EQ2... it seems like it takes a LONG time for it to benefit and uses up a lot of valuable adventuring time. i know theres tons of you craft-a-holics on this board and i was hoping someone could let me see your motives for spending so much time on this (dare i say) hobby?

Try and see it as spending time playing a game within a game instead of taking time away from adventuring.

Crafting in EQ2 is a complex and richly textured facet of the game. Maybe as complex as the adventuring part.

With 2 characters at level 12 in tradeskill (they're 14 & 15 in adventure), I am just now getting a handle on how things work in the system and have only just become able to reliably turn out goods of pristine quality.

If crafting isn't your thing, don't worry about it. You don't have to do it, there are LOTS of other options.

If you do want to give it a try, it can be frustrating at first but can become very rewarding down the road a piece.

Lately, I find that I enjoy my trade skill sessions every bit as much as I do tromping around Antonica and killing stuff!

Well, it's really easy to get to tier 2 crafting- you can blitz up to lvl 12 or so pretty fast. Just make stuff that's really hard for you, and take advantage of the first-time-made exp bonus (not sure if it's first time u try and it comes out pristine or just first time - maybe someone esle can clarify).

Crafting up to lvl 6 or so means u can make your own six slot bags and 8 slot bank boxes. You make your own food and drink for better health and power regen.

But while some folks love it, it does in fact get tedious. I haven't crafter in weeks. GL

Actually, depending on the item(s) you craft, you can actually start profitting from crafting as early as being on the IoR. People would spend a few silver, if they had it, for backpacks before leaving. Even buying strongboxes for your bank.

Crafting can be tedious. From the other game I play, I just use the crafting item and the ingredients and wait a few seconds and pray that I can successfully create the product I want. In EQ2 however, I can actually guide the crafting process. If I'm skilled enough (and provided the skill/buffs work correctly), I can determine the quality of the item I'm crafting. This does make it more involved, but personally, I find it to be more entertaining.

I can be seen as a craft-a-holic, with two characters, one being a 16 Cleric/23 Sage, and the other being a 7 Scout/ 24 Alchemist, and I tell you, once I got the starting money up to start crafting adept 3s, I can make about 25 to 50gp a day, sometime more. That in itself is a pretty good motive for many, but...the real reason why I chose to craft instead of adventure, is just because I like it more, and have more fun doing that instead of adveturing. I think adveturing is ok, but to me, crafting is more rewarding, and I also enjoy the thank yous from other players when I give them a good price on a rare item =)

I find that crafting acually has more depth than adveturing, once you begin to realize that every combination of tradeskills pushed at each table has a different effect, when you start cratfing rares, working out deals for dependency items, the deals you work out (I realize that the last 2 are player interaction, and not actually coded game, but it is still depth) etc
