I haven't been able to figure out how this spell works...it keeps telling me that I need to complete something first...what does that mean?

Lucky break is your HO (Heroic Opportunity) starter. It's not a normal spell that has it's own "stand alone" effect. Rather it begins an effect that requires you to "chain" together several abilities to result in a very nice ending. This chain has to be done in order.

Example; Start your HO with Lucky Break, this begins the HO, and must be "advanced". To advance the HO you must click on a "coin" ability (you can see which abilities are coin by right clicking on the ability and viewing it's icon, if it's a green coin its what you are looking for) this ability is usually flashing as well, to tell you which ability will advance the HO.

Once you have hit your coin ability this will bring up the HO wheel that tells you what HO is going to go off. You'll get 3 as a scout 1. Ringing Blow (direct damage), 2. Swindlers Luck (Attack bonus) 3. Bravo's Dance (self haste). If you don't like the HO you get, then as a scout you can "flip" the HO by hitting another of your "coin" abilities (but this only works once).

You then finish the HO with the "Sword" ability, which will complete the HO for you. Group HO's are more complicated, and require different classes, a good resource for HO info that I've found is www.gnorrath.com

I hope this has helped out =)

Hope that helps, and wasn't too hard to understand

You can however keep trying if you get the same one. The classic is with Swindler's Luck. This is a good combat buff but once you have it you do not want it again until it wears off. I will usually try and flip it after the first one. Either of the others are better but Bravo's dance (a haste buff)is the rare one. I want Ringing Blow and sometimes the flip just gives you Swindler's Luck again. You can use another flipping ability and may get a change on the second or third try. I am a tanking Ranger - I do this all the time.

There is a point of diminishing return where it is better to just complete the Swindler's Luck and start a new HO than mess about.

The guide here is fairly helpful as well.
