Know what you are craftingFollow

Yes, there is a way to examine an item before you craft it! Due to poor design on SOE's part, not many people know about this incredibly useful option. To do this, first examine the recipe. At the bottom of the recipe, there is a pic of the item. Right click this, and choose examine. There you have it! You can now see what it is before you make it!

Why SOE did not make this option more apparent is beyond me, unless they wanted to give it more of a mysterious, experimenting feel, while still offering the ability to check it, for those that played around with it long enough to find out.

I know a lot of you already know this, but I have run into a lot of people who did not. Heck, I didnt know it until after level 20 hehe...

I had no idea... until now I've been crafting in the "let's make one of those and see how it turns out" mode!

This can be especially entertaining when making food items since the first time you make one, you get to see how long it will take you to swallow it!

And on that note, I crafted up some Deer Casseroles last night... did you know that the delectable version has a duration in excess of five hours along with high satiation? Yee Haw!!!

keep in mind this is stats on the "shaped" version, not the pristine.

Yeah... I thought it was pretty crazy when it only shows shaped quality. I thought that it was based on my level to the recipe. So when I raise in level and re-examine the item, it would show the quality that I can normally make it at. But I don't think this is so.

Another thing that I noticed is the quality also affects the stat boosts on the item. I guess this is a duh moment for me, but what I also find most weird is, the shaped quality seems to have more benefit than the pristine. For example, the rawhide armor you can make, even if you are on the IoR. The shaped quality of the gloves boosts health and power, but the pristine only gave bonus to certain resistance (like poison for example). I haven't played in a while so I can't say what it's like past 11 Outfitter. I just thought these two things were weird... <_<

yeah, pristine isn't always better, the stats are different on each qulaity level, some levels have different attributes that are enhanced

For the longest time I used a conditioned ash kite shield, it was better than any other crafted or quested shield I saw.

Now I am using a waterlogged kite shield.

The fact that they chose shaped s the examining icon for it really only poses a problem to armor/weapons/jewelry. You can figure what food will be, with the difference of high quality generally being about 10-15% more duration than the low quality, and same satiation. Potions will have the same effect, no matter what quality, but will have different lengths of effect, which are usually not mentioned in the description anyway. You can of course read the descriptions of spells, with the major difference being that the higher the level (app2 vs. app4) will ususally consume less power, and will have a higher strength, which is not noted in the description to being with. And furniture...is there a difference in quality of furniture?
