Anyone who has read any of my threads knows what a knightmare i've had tring to get eq2 a) delivered b)installed c)working
I know i need to upgrade the RAM (only 256MB at the mo)that's not an issue. I'll be upgrading to 512MB then double at a later stage (when i've more cash).
But it won't let me play because i need "a video card with at least 4 texture units"
I'm probably very nieve but my graphics card is a GeForce something (don't know how to find out (not a good start)) 64MB.
I'm guessing i need to upgrade this, what is the minimum card to get to run reasonably and what is the best at the moment. I've read that the GeForce 6800 GT is really good, but I can't actually afford that at the moment.

You can actually play with a 64 meg card. I did at first. You just can't have ANY Nvidia card that's an MX card. They aren't supported. That could be the problem.

On my box (homebuilt) I have RAMBUS memory... very expensive and actually slower than current RAM... I upgraded to 1Gb and now I rarely have issues. Occasionally I will lag entering the qeynos harbor's dock area... but only for a few seconds.

As to the video card? I use a NVIDIA 5800 Ultra and it works just fine...
If I had the cash availible for a 6800 I think I might get it but OMG, they're about $349 from a discount site (I just love www.tigerdirect.com)...

For that kind of money I could buy a much better MOBO & CPU... also the MOBO would use real RAM not that RAMBUS crap... (The cost comparision between the two types means that I could have installed 2.5Gb for the saem price.)

I have noticed that EQ II is a bit of a system hog... you need a top-end GPU w/ at least 128mb to really run the game...

Currently with all the issues of playing EQ II I would wait and see about buying all that gear... Sony has to do something about the hemorrhaging of players to WoW before will consider spending any more money on this game...
If they put an expansion out for EQ II before the repair the problems I will probably drop my account. Since my account is an all access plan that will mean they lose me from EQ1 as well.

You shouldn't be forced to upgrade your machine every timme a new game comes out...

I hope I helped...

If you looking to get something cheap Id recommend lookign for a used Geforce 3 on Ebay. I see them go for about $30 all the time on there. I currently use a Geforce 3 and the games about average (got a upgrade in the mail though). Needless to say you need more ram though. I use 768 ATM and plan to buy more later on (probably add 512 more to it).

Im currently using the Geforce FX 5200 128mb g-card. Ive seen them go for around 50 bucks I think on new egg. i run the game smoothly with 1gig of ram. Id you need ram upgrade also Id reccomend using the kingston discount you get when buying eq2. also if your willing to spend a little more then 50 bucks on a g-card Im prolly gonna be upgrading to a Geforce 6600 soon I here there pretty good bang for buck. They go for around 100-200 bucks.

Aah thanks Nadenu My card (as I've now found out) is a Sparkle 6800M2 GeForce2 MX 100/200. So the MX bit is my problem eh?
Gonna get a 512 stick to put in so it'll have 768MB.
Pentium 4 is ok right.
