Hello, I currently play FFXI but as of recently i have decided that I no long wish to play it due to a few problems I have with the game creators of FFXI and so I want to know a few things before i come over, first being, is it worth it? because I dont want to leave one bad game to go to another. Second being, how much is it a month? FFXI is only 12.95 a month and if EQ2 is way more I'm staying. My final question being, is it extremly hard to make money, I only want to know this because FFXI likes to ***** me over when it comes to money making. If some one any one could please answer my questions it would be greatly appericated and if you have a name of a great server to join instead of just some random one that would be helpful also. Thank you for your time, and i hope to hear back from someone soon.

First off, I haven't played Final Fantasy... sorry can't help with that...

Second part, SoE offers a couple of choices in payment... I used to pay $12.95/mo for my EQ1 access but when I got EQII I bought the "all-access plan" and thats $21.95/mo... Supposedly they are going to include SWG in that price soon so it will be all access.
You can buy EQII seperately for $13/mo but why when for only $8 more you get 4 additional game accesses?

Third part, money... thats a sticky point... many people make money hand over fist in this game... I have a guildie that lives in a huge house in North Qeynos... it costs her 4-5g (not exactly sure but thats HUGE money to me) to maintain.
But then again she makes Ash Strong Boxes and sells them for like 1gp+ each....

I have only experienced the qeynos zones...

That being said, I found that you can make money doing quests amd you get ok exp as well.
Many of the mobs have multiple quests assigned to them. A perfect example is the CAVE SERPENT in THE CAVES.
As you can see from following the link the serpents have many quests that require you kill "X" number of them... you can get credit 4-5x for the same kill...

That adds up fast...
I hope this helps

hmm define.. "is it worth it"

more detail about what you don't like about FFXI.. I played FFXI for just over a year.. so I can give you my opinion on the subject. For the record FFXI was my first MMO as well... so I had no real previous experience to color my view of the game.

ok there are 2 big things I hate about FF, first being, every time some one figures out how to make money, like my friend and i farmed all sorts of matirals and we would craft them in to arrows or weapons ect. we were makeing good money right up untill square enix found out and nerfed it, then there was the bronze cap idea fish up rusty caps turn them into bronze caps, that also made good money, but once again square enix found out about this and once again nerfed it, ect. talk about knocking you down a few pegs when you find a good idea. second big thing is when ever a quest comes up like to attain artifact armor, you damn near need an army of level 75's to attain it, but the big catch is unless there your friend its going to cost you BIG time. these are the kind of things im trying to get away from now granted if this game still requires high level help i can always around that its just a pet peev but as for the money crap thats just stupid so i hope this will help you help me out and thanks for responding ;)

Most FF people love EQ2.

EQ2 is very cash poor, and it is very hard for many players to make money. And the one really good and easy way to make money (harvesting and selling) just got nerfed bigtime. Like the poster said above, if you play a toon up and figure out the right path to take in, say , artisaning, you can in theory sell an item that costs you very little to make for gold. That ash strongbox costs way, way under a gold to make - even less if you play up other toons to make the added components from other artisan classes for you.

What's more, after this huge investment of time in this char - the rug could be pulled out from under her. If other players compete against her regularly, her price per box will pummet - and there isn't much else she can make to sell - not that is in high demand, at last not now.

I never played FF. But from what I've read in EQ2 it's much easier to get groups compared to FF. You don't need to have uber gear or be just the right class. EQ2 is much more open and accepting. And all classes can solo in EQ2 - you have to work to figure out how to solo well, but it can be done.

In any MMO there is a risk of unsettling change. If you figure out a spiffy and fast way to get exp - expect so much competition it becomes ruined (quadding wyverns in CS in old EQ, great example). All these companies nerf and nerf hard, all the time. It's just part of the "joy" of playing these games.

I can say w/ confidence you will find EQ2 a breath of fresh air. The stuff you need to buy to be competative won't be nearly as expensive compared to FF - and lots of armor and stuff u can just quest for and get free. At lower lvls you don't need big help. At mid lvls u often only need a group for these -not an army of lvl whatevers. But would u like some other game like wow better than EQ2? I dunno - but EQ2 would at the very least engage, entertain and challenge u for a while. Not a total waste of cash, and maybe you will love it. In life and in mmo's there is always a risk. GL!

and now for a viewpoint from someone who has played FFXI, and played it for over a year... now I'll be the first to say my opinion is *heavily* biased.. but here we go...

compared to FF making money in EQ2 is a breeze.. is it dead pan simple.. no.. but a LOT of your gear will come from quest early on and the few things you'll buy are not all that expensive, I'll say quested armor plus one or two bought pieces will do you well til 20th level.. the days of farming for 3 weeks straight for the 120,000 gil for the three teleport scrolls because the quest is impossible to do solo before about 50th level and every time you check the AH the price only goes up (gee do I sound bitter?) are over in EQ2.

now I will say this, people with the ability to leave the PC on overnight and take advantage of the selling model in EQ2 tend to have more money..

that said.. and this is important, there is *NO* offline selling in EQ2, not only must you be online but you must be in your inn room to sell items and no where else.. annoying, yes.. they claim the purpose of this setup is to keep the economy from going hay-wire, and coming from FFXI you know what it's like to farm forever for the 70,000 gil needed for level 24 armor only to have to do it again at level 27 or 28 and the price for that armor set is now 100,000 gil or more.... Will the EQ2 selling setup work.. honestly only time will tell.. I don't see how it will *REALLY* affect things at all but perhaps SOE knows something I don't about in-game market economies.

But on the whole if people can over-charge for something.. they'll most certainly try. In EQ2 there's a fair bit more competition in the seller market... but even now I see Apprentice IV spells selling for WAY too much considering the cost of making the spell... what I've done to somewhat help with that is persue a tradeskill to augment my adventuring class... which is helpful (made myself two App II's this morning)

one big money making exploit was stopped by SOE. I *NEVER* used it and my Conjuror is sitting comfortably on 9 gold with up to date spells and armor. My brand new Enchanter started sunday of this week is at 13th level now with 3 gold and this is after the "Nerf" that supposedly made getting money difficult. If this is hard to people I *STRONGLY* suggest they try FFXI and see what a hard time making money REALLY is.

I've noticed a lot of quest below 20th level are pretty easy to do solo or with a duo if you want to take care of them a little early.. after 20th I'm noticing more group quest.. rumor has it they added a ton of new solo quest for 20th+ level so that's good.. I'm only 21st and I've been spending time leveling my 'chanter for a duo, so I can't say I've had much experience with those new quest yet. Now I have done a few of the more group oriented quest.. had myself and a lev 25 Fury.. it went well..

see that's the difference in EQ2 compared to FFXI. "group" in FFXI means tank, melee, healer, mage, and add 2 more people for damage or don't bother going out cause you'll have a full party wipe or crap XP.. "group" in EQ2 means assessing the situation, and deciding the strength you need.. I Duo and Trio more than full Party and we do just fine... many times without a healer class or tank (especially with my Conjuror since my summons can tank and I can heal them).

contrary to popular opinion you can solo in EQ2.. no you'll not gain XP hand over fist solo'ing (well ok not after 20th level anyway) but you CAN take on things and maintain a positive XP flow and get item drops (which sell fairly well).. in EQ2 you will not cower in utter terror of something that's "Easy Prey"

what this means is the hours.. days.. weeks.. and months spent LFG cause you're 300 xp TNL and fighting easy prey is death are over.

now.. it *MUST* be said.. some classes solo better than others.. my Conjuror is a solo'ing monster.. in second place is something of a tie between my priest and my enchanter.. solo'ing as a melee I hear is a bit tougher.. but it just makes sense.. think about it.. which will solo better:

fighter goes toe to toe and hopes to out damage it..

mage cast bind and nukes the thing from 80 yards away...

conjuror is MORE solo capable - send in the summoned pet.. let it take hate... then nuke the mob from 80 yards away..

so it makes sense.. if you have the potential to stop a mob at a distance, you'll be the better solo'ing class.

so, there you have it... any other questions?
