From todays update notes:

As described in this month's Producer's Letter, we have significantly increased experience gain for solo players and small groups of two and three members.

For complete details on this and other upcoming game changes, please read the full Producer's Letter at EQ2Players.com:

I'm always suprised to hear people complain about not being able to solo or not being able to play casually.

The thing I like best about this game is how casual-friendly it is.

I can literally log in for 15 minutes and get something accomplished. That was NEVER true in EQ1. In EQ1 I always felt that anything less than 2 hour sessions was just pointless.

In EQ2, you can often join a group for a specific objective, 1 mob or a set of mobs, and then leave. Nobody gets upset that you didn't stay for 2 hours, nobody else is staying either!

In EQ1, I would join a group, and as a cleric, felt obligated to stay at least a couple hours, often 4 or 5. I just don't have that time anymore.

In EQ2, I will join a group, and as a cleric, feel obligated to finish ... well nothing. I often join a group for a few encounters. Or for a half hour. Everyone parts company happily.

Sure a healer is useful, a healer is even necessary at times. But druids and shaman are healers too, in this game . Its not cleric centric, at least not so far, and I'm in the high 20s now.

Maybe all that changes at 50, who knows? I don't.

My paladin is 28, and can solo fine, but loves to duo with a healer. But yes, I can solo easily. I have some decent damage, some good defensive skills, and a solid heal. I can't kill anything anywhere anytime, but I can certainly pick my mobs and kill a decent amount of stuff.

Plus, I NEVER stay in one spot for long. EQ1 was
1. Find a group. 10 minutes to 2 hours wasted
2. Go to a camp. 10 minutes to 2 hours wasted (depends on how hard it is to get to, obviously, and who dies along the way)
3. Sit at that camp killing the same stuff over and over, probably trying to spawn a named.
4. If you are "lucky" you get trained by some other group that wanted your camp, and it at least breaks the monotony, or the one complete moron in your group ends up getting you killed in some way.

In EQ2:
1. Decide what I want to kill today based on the amount of time I have available, and probably based on which active quest(s) I want to advance (often several at once0.
2. Go there. Kill things.
3. Move on to another quest, if there is time, or log.

All this in anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hour increments, depending on what *I* feel like doing or have time for, NOT dependent on some obligation I feel because the game makes grouping so dang difficult.

EQ1? I've not logged in even once, not even to give away my stuff or say good bye to my old guild. While I like them and everything, every single one of my RL friends that used to play eq1 is playing EQ2, and all but one haven't even considered looking back.

ANY class can solo, and they are adding more solo and duo content every day. I love this.

Regarding those who say they "can't" solo, I kind of agree. I have no trouble soloing.

That's part of my problem, though. I have no trouble soloing. And every fight is the same. Maybe I move around, yes, but every fight is the same. True for my Fury, rogue and pal.

Er... I now have a summoner, so every fight is not quite the same. When I take on tough mobs that can get challenging. It's one of the things keeping me in the game.

I can take on 3 green mobs - root one, sic pet on another, and back off and nuke/ho the third - reroot - help pet kill his - then kill the last one. Or I can put pet on a tough ^^ and heal him ... hoping not to draw agro (if i do i have to run and go back - and work on my timing).

Still the differences are subtle and limiting. I hope maybe they will change this soon. The new patch and the new producer's letter are very hopeful.

I am up to lvl 18 with my summoner and with a little bit of skill I can solo 2 arrow green mobs, and orange solo mobs. When I say a little bit of skill I mean let pet take agression and don't overnuke to the point the mob is smacking on me. As far as blue and green solo mobs I usually just tank them to keep my defense going up.

Anyways I know on Eq1 a good twink of about any class could solo up to at least 20, maybe more. But on eq2 you could wear the crappiest armor in the game and still be able to solo some mobs that give you exp. Also downtime is very low for soloing on eq2, which is more then can be said about eq1. Id say a average geared druid on eq1 would probably have a few minutes downtime between mobs even at lvl 15 to 20ish.

Aye..

Anyone who says they cannot solo in Eq2 with almost any class may need to find a new game. While it is true at somewhat higher levels than 20 it gets tougher, a good skilled player should be able to take an appropriate con'd mob. That being said if you complain about not being able to take a mob that is double arrow up, then it has no business being in this post as that is labeled "group" to begin with. With my 17 Druid I can solo most "solo" mobs up to about orange, and I can solo a "group" single mob to blue two arrows up. (barely) And that require I run away to gain some power and turn and continue fighting to take em down.

But there are still classes that clearly solo better than others, my Defiler and SK both solo better than my Druid and Assasin. For obvious reasons. Hps and the SK's Ward are just awesome for soloing and my Defiler is in the same boat plus his debuffs are nice.

I like playing and that means even dying when I try to take a mob I have no business taking on, hehe a quote from "Signs" It just didnt feel right not to swing. :)

SoE lied about it being for casual players if you ever expected a casual player to reach lvl 50 in 3 months.....

In the grand scheme of things for it to be casual player friendly a casual player that bought EQ2 on release will just about reach lvl 50 by the time the first expansion comes out. Thats playing 1 charicter.

Well that turned out so wrong :) I have seen several 50L players so far and its been 3 months and a few days from day 1.
Just go's to show you some pleople have no life other then EQ hehehe oh well now we have to deal with the bored 50L want PvP or more kool stuff to plow thru in a week.
