Well finally broke down and bought EQ2. Was sitting looking at my eq 1 character selection screen for like 3 hours and finally decided enough is enough. After EQ1 i dont have the guts to make a melee class as of yet. So im going to make a gnome necromancer. Was curios if anyone could post a few starting tips etc. I will be spending the ext few hour researching varios sites and will check back.

EDIT: are there any necro races that get certain quests or abilities that otherwise the class wouldnt have (IE the old troll shammy snare quest in neriak in EQ1)

There are some racial abilitie perk-like things, but not like in eQ1 - and not like that quest.
Mostly know that you need to upgrade yer spells asap.
You are given apprentice lvl 1. If you buy an upgrade and "scribe" it, suddenly that spell is waay more potent - does more damage, summons a better pet, heals more, buffs more, whatever. U don't have to do them in order, either.
You can buy app 2 once u get to FP. Any scribe shop.
App 3 and 4 are player made - cost ... 10 to 40 silver or more.
Adept 1 is next, drops off mobs. Check broker for players selling. Expensive.
Adept 2 so far is the lvl 10 20 30 etc spec. training thing.
Adept 3 is player made w/ uber rare drop metal or coral.
Mastery 1 is rare rare rare rare mob dropped.
Once u get a pet he's not a good taunter. Pace yourself w/ your DoTs and nuking. GL

And if you don't really like your new necromancer after all, I can tell you that the warrior mindset has much changed from the days of everquest 1. We have many, many abilities to enhance the playstyle as opposed to clicking a button and watching your character attack while you mash the taunt button. Though I can't help you with your new class (I'm a melee archtype), if you ever decide to go fighter, I'll be here to help ya get started with quest and the such. Good luck , and hope you enjoy your new necro! By the way, just curious, what race did you choose? I haven't seen a high elf necro yet >=). Oh and what server did you start on, if you're on mine I'll give ya a gold to get things rolling.
