Hello all,

I finally gathered the materials and figured out what to do to make a packpack. However, it seems that I can only make a crude leather backpack..is that all you can make on the isle of refuge?
My light armoring is 43 and I am a level 7 artisan. So im not sure if I need to be a higher level artisan or what.

Also, is it worth spending all this time on Isle of Refuge to make the Elm Strong Boxes and the Six Backpacks or would it be less time consuming and cheaper to just buy them?

EDIT: Another Question..if I wish to make a Pristine Rawhide Backpack do I have to use all Pristine Materials to make it?

It probably is just you level is a little low, i am making 6 slot 10% wt Reduction by lvl 13.

The choise of leaveing or staying on IoR is a personal one, i leave as soon as Mr Orc i dead since things cost less once you are a citizen of your chosen city.

People who are going to be hardcore Traders have been known to stay on IoR for thier entire career since the IoR tradeskill room has everything within easy reach.

you can pass foraged items via the shared bank so it's not a problem.

My advice to you is to leave once you have completed all your quests since material is easier to get in the city newbie zones and you can level while you forage.

Also certain items are availible in real tradeskill houses that are not availible from IoR that make tradeskilling substantially cheeper.

The choise is yours and bar a couple of silver and an extra day it makes no real difference really, just do what you are enjoying.

*hint you can get an 8 slot bag in Nettleville hovel, using This Quest

When you decide to get off the IOR I think depends on whether you are in a hurry to level or not. Personally, I find its easier to get materials there so I choose to stay until I've maxed out both adventurer and artisan levels. Making the strongboxes is as useful a way to do that as any. (yet to even look at making rucksacks...lol).

I'm a packrat and need lots of storage. Unfortunately, I'm also a miser so I decided pretty much to make what I need rather than buy it. Last night I sold 3 elm strongboxes (not pristine) for 18s each. I prefer doing that, pocketing the money and levelling my artisan skills at the same time.

You need to start out with a pristine raw material if you want a shot at making a pristine finished product. Anything less than pristine quality will not do it. For example, I have to start with pristine planed elm lumber to get a shot at a pristine strongbox. The tin studs and sheets can be any quality but the starting material (the lumber) must be pristine.

Good luck.

Other players who are more knowledgable about tradeskills then I am will fill in the holes, but for now I'll tell you what I know.

There are a number of reasons why you may be stuck making the lower grade *crude* backpacks. First of all, to even have a chance at making a pristine backpack, the primary ingredient, (in this case, the plate), has to be pristine. The other things don't have to be but the top item must.

Next, you either have to *get lucky* while doing the final combine or else, you have to learn the tricks involved in tradeskilling well. (Hint: don't count on being lucky!)

Do you know about the mini spells that you can cast while you are making the item that will help it along? There are several threads in these forums that discuss how to improve your quality of finished goods.

In fact, there is a whole forum here called *tradeskill discussions* with nothing but threads on tradeskilling and you should look there to find gobs of detailed information.

Your last question was *is it worth staying on IoR to make boxes and packs instead of buying them?*

Well, the short answer is that you won't be able to afford them for quite a while. Money is hard to come by early on in this game and boxes and backpacks are VERY expensive, so yes, you should make them if you can. But not if it means staying on the island!

Get out into the world and then you can decide what you want to make and what you want to quest for.

Good luck and good hunting...
