Perhaps I missed a thread on this subject but what's the deal on poisons? I haven't explored this area at all and there's nothing in the otherwise excellent strategy guide.
Can anyone buy/use them?
I know they go in the activable slots and you have to right click. Do I do that while I'm targetting a mob? How do they actually work?
Do I need any special equipment?

I am a Bard lvl 16. Any advice gratefully received.

Dont know if bards can use them. I know predators can. Once you have the poison in an activation slot, you just right click it on the inventory window, select use, and all attacks will have a chance to hit for poison damage. One application lasts several RL hours (or until you die).

It should also be noted that while the poison does last 12 hours, or until you die, it also has a 100 proc limit on it as well... I find as I've leveled the average time my poison lasts decreases due to faster weapons, and more common haste, resulting in more proc's.

This is a good thing since you do more damage, but you I'm having to reapply poison once every 15-20 minutes when grouping.

A bard told me that they can't use poisons.

My rogue can - predators can as well.

U buy one from a player who makes em or from a NPC poison vender.

You can't use them til lvl 10. Okay first trick is to find a poison that is good for your level (i.e. not grayed out - and not red and unusable). Okay, this gets confusing because there is ANOTHER color system - the color of the little poison icons themselves - which denotes what they do, not what lvl they are.

Some are more DD, some are slow DoTs, some are DD first then DoT. Most say that 'purple' poisons are the best. But only one rogue/pred per grp can be using that. So buy an orange or whatever as backup.

Caustic assault is a great player made potion - made by scholars, tier 2 artisans. Some of the other pois recipes may still be bugged.

Okay, to use - rt click poison and "equip". It's in the equipables slot. Rt click again and "use". U now get an effect - see the icon? Twelve hourse, or 100 procs - or death. Pretty good. In fact it's too good. Expect nerfage. SoE doesn't like being that nice to us, unless they've reeeeealy abused us first.

Only one poison works at a time. Gray poisons can be "used" but are almost always resisted. Remember, a lot of them work as DoTs. GL

Just for clarification. Yes, you can have two poisons, one in each activatable slot and you can activate both. However, they do not stack. The first one that is activated will be the only one active. Once that poison runs out, the next will take over.

"But when I see the battle log, poison proc's twice."

I see this also, however there are two possible explanations. One is you're duel wielding and poison has a chance to proc with both weapons (and don't forget ranged attacks as well). This I know is true because I have only one vial of poison activated and am using a hand axe and a rapier. The other is the DOT (damage over time). Poisons do initial damage and DOT, like EvilGnomes said. I use Orange poisons because of its balanced DD and DOT... and of course, the price tag. :/

VERY GOOD information you all. Rate ups for Evil and Arcos! I myself am new just as the OP (most likely) and I did not know anything about these poisons and having reached level 10, I wanna be the best I can be.

Again, awesome job! Keep it up.

Thanks Sly! Sorry if I didn't state it quite right - as the other poster said you can load two poison effects, but only one works. I didn't know the other kicked in when the first used up its 100 procs - good to know.

Hey, they are fixing player made poisons, and some of them are good. I'd google a tradeskill site for updated info (don't play my rogue atm, so I'm not keeping up). But for convenience, find a good poison vender for your lvl and at least use those (npc bought). In good side the shop is in S Qey and marked on the map. Also there is a poison vendor in Graystone Yard on the way to the docks - a Vah Sh- er ... Kerran. Sorry. I miss the Vah Shir.

That's a killer thread, thanks! All this is making me wanna play my old rogue again.

I'm gonna point out something to players that is said there - just in case people miss it. Poison skills bump up in increments of 50. So there will be some levels where all poisons are either gray or red.

Like lvl 17 to 19. Until you hit 20 you can't use new poisons, and your old ones are gray and almost always resisted. So if you know that in advance, it might save you some confusion and grief. GL all!
