Things I would like to see back from EQ1Follow

#1 Jan 17 2005 at 11:35 AM Rating: Decent
Hey there! We all have a few favorite things from EQ1 we see missing and would love to see come back. Im not talking about those offline merchants either...glad they dont have them, but a gameplay thing i thought was fun.

Here is my list off the top of my head:

1) I remember the commonlands being overrun with a werewolf every now and again, thought that was great and added that extra caution to grouping. Would love to see a unique mob pop once in a while ina newbie type zone and start rampaging. Even at the cost of my death, adds that excitement.

2)My 2 favorite zones were Mistmoore and Lguk. Even after all the expansions they remained my favs. Would love to "find" them back again.

3) Dueling. I loved to duel, and pit my Paladin against all comers. I was good and enjoyed a good fight. I also miss those quirky "Coke Defeats Pepsi in a duel to the death" or "Oprah Defeats Loseweight" ah those were the days.

4)I havent been there yet so forgive if this is in the game but... Velious had some wonderful zones, the Dwarf city, TOFS, well i sure miss the Snow days. I knwo everfrost is there and will make my way there soon enough, just hoping its as good as Velious was.

5) Prolly the thing i MISS THE MOST is Skill Points. I loved accumulating skill points when i gained a level and was able to decide where to spend them. I wouldnt use my Skill points for 20 levels and then dump them into something, i miss that customization.

6) Another Biggie for me is AA, Alternate Advancement. The customization was Great, bring it back perty please!

7) Bone Armor. Sure the stats werent that great but wasnt it cool to look like a Skele! At least different armor. Sometimes My twinkies(yeah we all had them) would wear lesser stats armor just to look Unique, like Charred and be all black, things like that. To much Carbon copying right now.

Well thats the list of the top off the top of my head, whats yours?

Mmmmm yeah seen him 2 times in 4.5 years. Sounds like half the named u need for quests now in commonlands. So you already have it.

Ok, don't know why but maybe they give some day.

Ok they said at the start there would be no PvP. There is no way to make PvP fair to the PvP's and still have a fair and usable PvE so I for one say no and hope they do the same.

There are those mean rampaging mobs on EQ2. There is that giant rat thing in The Caves that will spawn and roam around. There is a named spider that roams around in Forrest Ruins.

As for PvP I never could stand it. Nothing but people taking cheap shots at somebody lower then them (level 12 necro vs a lvl 9 melee who is fighting a orc....gee who will win?). I don't see a problem with them opening a PvP server some day, just I won't have anything to do with it.

I agree I loved Guk, although Mistmoore was too buggy (like the mob that roamed through the graveyard and pulled the entire castle on a group if agressed). Also was very bad about mobs aggressing through the walls etc. Just wasn't much fun to hunt IMO. Guk though I loved it in there.

When Eq1 first came out we had no velious, AA's, etc. Before EQ2 is done Im sure something like AA's will pop up in future expansions. Can only imagine what sort of places will show up in the expansions.

Far as cool looking armor, Im sure there is some out there somewhere. I never remembered Bone armor actually making you look like a skeliton though, I thought it looked like plate? Maybe that was so old school even I don't remember (I started playing Eq1 about when Kunark just came out).

EQ2 kinda gives me that feeling I had when I first played EQ1. New world to explore, merchants who actually sell items you want, and surprises around every corner. I played so many charactors on EQ1 that nothing ever surprised me.

Also I finnally learned how Qeynos was pronounced. For the past 5 years me and my friends have pronounced it Kway-Nos. We also pronouned Luclin Luck-lin as well.

Have you played the game elfrir?
Your talking about zones in parts of the world that are lost. At least for now. Skill points are not needed as half the skill go up with your lvl and the ones that dont go up very fast if you just use the skill :) Armor very mush looks the same on everyone with little to look forward to from what i have seen. I do hope they ar least give us dye at some point thoght. There are some rare spawns you can get, most need to be trigered but thats not hard. Would be nice to see a griff in commonlands killing every noob in site that was always fun

I just saw the Antonican Drakota yesterday for the first time, Anguis or something - lvl 23 ^^^ - yep 3 up arrows - and it's little friend - a lesser drakota.

The variety of things you are talking about took years to develop in old EQ. They will come about in time in EQ2.

What I really miss from old EQ - and what we're extremely unlikely to see - is the rich and wild variety of tactics in that old game. I think w/ a lot of them the developers had no idea how players would end up using them. There was a sense of a "frontier" to explore here - of ideas - this was a huge challenge for us - usually starting w/ "how in the heck can we kill that thing there?" or "how can we beat THE GRIND? how can we get better exp at this new level?" And the myriad ways - they were so cool to me.

These are simply gone in EQ2. My druid/fury can either team, where he heals and sometimes dots or nukes. Or he can solo. Most soloing is just straight out fighting - buff, pull w/ DoT, HO HO regro self, HO HO dead. Or there is another tactic, grinding (ironic name ). DS self, pull w/ DoT, melee, regro and refresh DoTs, rinse and repeat, til it dies. That's it.

So many things have been improved - quest items don't have to be handled for the most part - auto facing in melee - so many player friendly features - don't think I don't notice or appreciate these. It's just that among all these cool improvements, why did the area of "variety of tactics" have to be truncated, chopped down to nothing? The only tactical choice left in many group situations is which HO to angle for and is it worth it for this fight. Ho's... such a sterile, arbitrary - video game like - substitution for real tactics... sigh.

I know you won't all agree w/ me, at least not at first. That's okay. Not all of us play the same. But a lot of us share the opinion I've displayed here. A lot of us feel "cut out" of this game.

i guess some of the things i miss the most since i was a barbarian shammy 45 season in eq1 was the ability to randomly buff and heal people it seems that now one must be grouped to heal or buff someone so no more suprise heals for the noob dying or drive by buffs for people and also i noticed that kiting has been extremely nerfed as an old vet of rathe mountains and the hill giants i had to master kiting to solo those big guys and the other day i was gonna kite a freeport raider with one of my evils and when i bound and dot`ed him i only ran a short distance and it broke the conflict which worries me about my ability to solo since kiting can be the difference between life and death i have always rooted debuff dot retreat wait for mob to come to me then dd and melee away plus now of course heroic opportunity also
VALHAEN WOLFHEART 45 SEASON BARBARIAN SHAMAN RETIRED EQ1
VALHAEN WOLFHEART 12 SEASON BARBARIAN SHAMAN EQ2
MORDRIUS 10 SEASON HUMAN NECROMANCER TO BE EQ2
BONECRUSHER 8 SEASON OGRE SHADOW KNIGHT TO BE EQ2
VISCHALL 8 SEASON KERRAN RANGER TO BE EQ2

Disagree. EQ2 players are comparing a lot of it to EQ1. My take is that a lot of us are excited to get into a new world and explore again, c'mon thats the beauty of it. What a lot of us are realizing is EQ2 is awsome! But wouldn't it be nice if a few things from EQ1 were kept like being able to heal people without grouping with them first or even worse after you have to revive them. What I'm saying is I don't want to play eq1 anymore, eq2 has everything i'm looking for but it would be perfect if they moved a few things from eq1 over. Love the game. Just commenting =).

As a cleric, i too miss the ability to do drive by heals and such, but i understand why that is not in place. EQ1 was flooded with buff bots and power levellers. The mechanics for EQ2 seem to me to be less encouraging of buff bots (this could be part of the reason for fewer character slots as well, tho i only need 1 anyway). Power levellers will always exist in some form, but i think it was too easy in EQ1 with the ability to grab HoV and KEI and they would last for hours. So while i miss the ability to do a good deed and help others as i pass by, i think the differences here from EQ1 will make for a better game.

I do like the idea of AAs as it give some extra customization ability to characters, as well as give the power gamer kiddies something to do instead of constantly raising the level cap and creating more distance between the casual and full-time gamers.

These are just my opinions, i won't besmirch yours, nor should you do any different.
