Well as some might have seen in a couple of posts I was debateing rather to get this game or not. Well a friend offered to take over my old EQ1 account (won't go into details), and I seen EQ2 on sale at ebgames for $35. So anybody interested in eq2 check with your local EB, don't think it is cheaper anywhere else.

Anyways from what I have played it seems fun, of course most of people's complaints don't start till 20+. I got a 6 half elf mage on the Grobb server. Alot of things I like about this better then eq1, but alot of things I don't like. I don't like the process you go through when you die. As a newbie the exp debt after finding your shard isn't nothing bad, but I am sure at higher levels it will cause you to lose ALOT of exp. Also I understand once you revive you can't be rezzed? I can see sitting in front of your PC stareing at your body waiting 20 and 30 minutes for a rez while in a raid or what not, no that much fun IMO.

Performance wise it seems to run fine on my geforce 3. I went ahead and ordered another card though, Got one of those 5600FX cards. I know alot of people hate the FX cards, but I can't bring myself to buy these $180 and up cards. I checked the stats compared to my current card and it seems at least 33% better or more in every aspect. I figure it should speed it up a decent amount. Also my friend wants a really cheap card that will run eq2 and I can sell him mine for like $25 or somethign and get him into the game (really the main reason I am doing this). Don't think his current 8 meg card will cut it for eq2 lol.

Anyways don't mean to ramble on.

True, once you revive, you can't be rezzed.

Don't know how that will play out in raid situations as my highest is only lvl 17 now. But I don't think it will take 20-30 minutes like it did in EQ1. In this game, everyone can rez, provided the healer handed out "feathers" (they allow other people to rez in case the healer goes down.)

One thing to note about the xp debt system, is that you never lose xp, you only get a buffer for a certain amount, where it makes it harder to gain xp. While yes, this would mean that it would cause you to "lose" xp, because you are not getting the full amount you gain, logging off will start to erase your debt. I have lost over 75% in the course of three days (playing for about 3 or 4 hours each of those days). I dont think the time to lose the debt goes up as you level higher, so it would not be a huge problem, unlike previous systems, where a couple of deaths to a high level player can be brutal.

I too just got the game, but still need a gamecard before I can play. Can't wait to start my path to Guardian or Berserker. I only hope I don't have any major problems like dcing. Had that in ffxi, eq, and finaly found out it was my outdated mx400 vid card ******** up. New card now, just hope it works well enough.

I wasn't aware you paid towards the EXP debt when you logged off. I guess its actually not too bad then. STill is annoying though when you join a group and 2 or 3 people die then it disbands leaving you with nothing but debt lol. Had that happen today at the forrest ruins Guardian Area.

As i've stated in another thread, I think death should be painful. If there is no penalty for death then people would not pay more attention while fighting and/or traveling. ALthough I don't know if xp debt is the best way to handle this, I'm sure losing xp is out-dated. Can anyone who dislikes xp debt actually provide a good death penalty?

It's not easy to create a really good death system, but the xp-debt isn't as good as actually loosing xp and really having to get your corpse.

All I have to do now, is to wait three days and pay an amount (granted, this amount does increase with the armour lvl) to restore my equipment.

I've done several suicide runs to get a quest update (Ruins of Varsoon, no way to get the shard back at all at lvl 21) and this is something I would never even have thought of in EQ I. Hard to do a suicide run amidst red aggro mobs when you have to get your body back.

On the other hand, nothing was as irritating as dinging a lvl and a second later loosing it again. After loosing the same lvl 5 times in a row, it can get tiring.

And to respond to Fronglo, I'm at lvl 23 now, haven't had that many problems 20+, but I have noticed that questing slows down a bit, more quests require either a group or me waiting till I get to lvl 27 or so.

must agree. XP debt is WAY better than XP loss.. but when it gets extreme wow does it leave a mark..

time to play that Alt..

but anyway, I also have a character at 21st level and honestly I've had no issues solo'ing but Zieveraar's right in that questing does seem to slow down greatly..

I'm hoping the new quest they've added and will continue to add for solo'ing will give more things to do at the 20+ range that doesn't need 3 or more people. There's a good bit as is.. but I would like more. ^_^
