My 23 Fury solo's really well but is also invited to a lot of groups because of the healing capes. I find I can fight as well as heal and sow plus revive is nice. The only thing I can't do is tank because my defenses aren't that strong. Usually, as a 23, I'm invited into groups made up of 25's and 26's. Therefore I don't defend well against the targets (giants, etc.) that we normally kill. A good tank can take the brunt of the attacks and I can both heal and fight. Just watch your mana so you don't run out of energy when it comes time to heal someone.

I like the Shaman line better. They do emphasis slightly better melee combat and the Wards work better. I ran an enchanter previously and had to usually pick on white or blues and avoid ^^ like the plague. My shaman has no problems soloing ^^ 4 levels higher. Thanks to the Wards and the low damage most mobs due at my level [below 20], my shaman is a better soloer than my druid or cleric. This is the first class I had that could go anywhere without invis [by running with SoW and Ward :) eg running into BB to get the gnoll brew and getting out... at level 13] and with so much confidence. I hope it lasts after level 20.

I disagree that all healers solo equally well, solo play seems to favour the shaman line. On the other hand, if my group had just a single slot open for a healer, I'd pick a Templar or a Fury over a Defiler. My best healer experiences were with a Druid/Cleric or a Shaman/Cleric. The combination is so effective.

Mind you, the player is a more significant factor after the right class choice.

Any class can solo in EQ2, it just depends on your ability to learn and play that class, and what you consider successful. You're not going to get exp as fast at lvl 35 as you did at lvl 10 no matter what you do. I've only played the defiler class and I picked it over other healing classes because it was evil, and offered a little more offensive firepower than a true cleric. The defiler's strong points are his group/self buffs, and mob debuffs. At lower levels this allows a defiler to solo quite well if you pick your mobs correctly. At higher levels, they take a back seat to templars/inquisiters for pure healing, but their group buffs and mob debuffs work wonders in raids and high level groups so they are a wonderful compliment to a group with a full on cleric type. I would assume mystics are much the same, but I've not played one.
