shortage of who?Follow

Was wondering if there is a shortage of a particular race or class. Ideally I would like to create a wood elf, i know the traditional roles, but do you have to play those? or is it easier? or an unspoken rule that you just do stick to those?
although if there are lots and lots of wood elves would it be better to play as some other race?

Shortage depends on the server you play on. The easiest way to find out would be to create some random character on your server and start doing /who all functions to see the numbers. Like / coercer all would tell you how many coercers there are, or / woodelf all would say how many wood elves. Now, I believe the numbers returned are capped at 100, but especially if you're on a smaller server, this should still help some. Now, I don't know how hard it is to play non-traditional roles, but I've seen a reasonable number of people who do (i.e. dwarf mage). Even if there are a whole bunch of wood elves, I don't think it'd hurt for you to play as one if you wanted. I play a wood elf, and there's certainly no shortage of them on my server.

PLEASE don't create a character based on what some people claim they think the game needs at this moment in time. You're only setting yourself up for disappointment.

Create a character that, first and foremost, YOU think you will have fun playing. Because a boring character is a boring character, and that won't change no matter HOW MANY people need you in their group.

Totally agree.

In this game more than most you can find a role in a group whatever your class. The sort of people who feel that casters have to be high elves or whatever are not the sort of people you want to pay any attention to anyways.

I have a Kerra Summoner and he does fine. My Barbarian Enchanter has a bit more trouble but that is mostly because he keeps stopping mid-spell to pick his nose.

Some NPC seem to take attitudes though Smiley: smile

OoOoOoOo A Chanty, I hope you enjoy cause I just love my Illusionist .

I played a cleric in EQ1 because thats what My group needed , bad idea. I spent all that time stressed out , and not having a ton of fun ( there were fun days but you know). Then We get Eq2 and I had allready decided to never be a cleric again , so I rolled a chanter this time ( had a chanter alt in Eq1, loved her).

I soo love EQ2 and I feel part of it is my love for my class , I never had near the fun playing a cleric that I do a chanty. Basically never play a class cause someone else says you should even if it is friends who need a certin class for the perfect group, always pick what sounds fun . I also notice that it doesnt take the perfect group in Eq2 , we do alot with a druid healer or a shammy tank ( when we cant find a plate class tank we dont give up, we try anyway LOL) .

Maybe I'm misreading, but I think the OP is asking which classes are generally harder to find (and therefore more desireable for groups). Coming from FFXI, are we? :)

You can play anything in this game and should have no trouble finding groups, at least into your 20's (I can't say how it is past that). If you're hellbent on getting a raid spot when you're level 50, pick an archclass (i.e., guardian to tank). They're always in demand. I have to agree with everyone else, though: play whatever looks the most fun to you. The absolute balance between the classes is ridiculous, so you don't really win or lose no matter what you pick.

My best experiences in groups have been w/ people who like what they play and play it well - regardless of the makeup. Good players > preconceived "optimized" combos any day. Seriously, play what sounds fun to you.

Wood elf chanter! nice! To few chanters out there imo! Hope you find the chanter to be a fun char to play, I allways love having a chanter around but it happens so rarely.. :(
Anyways, dont mezz everything you see! :)
