Get to lavel 20, you can then get your last name. If I remember correctly there is a surname command for it.

yeppers.. at 20th level.. the command is:
/lastname
for example - /lastname George
if you want your last name to be George. :-P
/lastname
for example - /lastname George
if you want your last name to be George. :-P
Just remember to a.) Be very certain that the name you list is the one you want and b.) Spell it correctly (or rather, don't rush and spell the name a way you didn't intend)!

Are last names restricted the way first names are? I mean could you have something real common as a last name?

I am not sure if there is any restriction for last names.
I can tell you 'cause my last name is Trueshot.
If you guys remember this was the surename of the wood elf family in rangers guild. And there is also a NPC named Trueshot in willow wood.
