Anyone remember hearing something about..if you had a character in EQ1 and played eq2, you could get some sort of ancestral armor from your eq1 character somehow?

They never implied you would be able to bring objects. They said you would "have links with your heritage"

Well I'm not quite sure how this would work since equipment has different stat structure here. Damage ranges are different, resist numbers are different, overall stats are different for abilitues. Could you imagine having an item that gives +20 stamina on a newbie character? What about other stats that no longer exist in game, such as charisma? Id love to have a nice 36 percent haste item in game! Where is my War Marshall's Bladed Staff? Current EQ2 level restriction is 50, EQ1 is 70. Just don't see how this could happen unless they adjusted stats on the item when handed down, and then people would complain about that.

Hell, I'd be happy to just leave my bank account to my current toon. What do you think 300,000 plus plat would do to the server economy?

There are items in EQ2 that share the name of EQ1 items: Journeyman Boots, Light Stone, Fishbone Earring - just to name a few so far.

There are Heritage quests which produce these as the final item (or in the case of the light stone, an intermitant progressive item).

I too was under the impression that originally they meant for you to be able to have an heirloom item of your choice, while not the same, would function similarly to your eq1 item. I.e. I could have my great grandfathers Black Bastardsword
