*blush* Sorry for the goof on the title.

I don’t want this to turn in to a flame or anything. I just wanted to discuss Log Parser spamming; I was interested on how others felt about. Please share your own option.

Recently I have been seeing Log Parsers in Party’s. I have to say it’s well written. It display’s each person’s damage output in order from highest to lowest in /gsay. I myself would be interested in using them in solo applications to test different techniques, or type’s of HO perhaps in a party.

However when I see them used it really scares me. I have to make a reference to another game which is a sin, that game is FFXI. This also may apply in other MMOS. In FFXI you had to be the best of the best. If you didn’t spend months crafting and farming for just one item out of many you were not welcome in a party. When I see the parser spam displayed in a party I feel as if were graded each round and things might turn out that way in this game.

I see small arguments break out on how such and such should upgrade this item slot. I feel as if history is going to repeat it’s self. As of right now my gear is all orange with the expectation of two items which are white. One current white item I have is the best on the market thus far. As for the other, I saw something better going for 8gp. Sure I have plenty of money but for the small stat increase it’s not worth it to me. When they adjust the markup on that item correctly then I may think about it but may decide still not to get it.. I just really think it would be a waste.

However with the parsers spamming every fight, I see an increase of party stress and arguing soon that may become an issue. I’m just waiting to hear “Why is this item white Knightstorm?”. Also when parsers are running I noticed players compete for the highest DPS trying to be number 1 on the list. Then brag about it and such. That’s fine and all but as a tank I can’t keep hate if you’re spamming fire balls and what not. I think the Parser was created for testing different skills and HO’s and for efficiency. Not to compete with others and have the Priest waste all mana healing you.

Well, that’s pretty much it. I’m a Paladin, this is not a concern for me at this time, however when the time comes I want to play something else…. What could the parser make this game become?

Your thoughts?

Sounds bloody spooky, Toxic. I haven't seen one of these in a group yet, but I haven't been aggressively grouping the past few.

Man... I mean for one thing, it isn't always about max damage. There are so many other factors, like do you ***** up HOs or facilitate them? Do you ward and do defensive stuff to help others? Do you see and call adds? Do you break mezzes? Do you offer useful advice to the group? Do you stay awake, are you alert and doing a good job every fight - or talking on the phone or watching TV while halfheartedly pushing the buttons (well a parser would catch that if yer a dpser). But... it sounds sick.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that many FFXI players came here. Hence the reason for that mentality carrying over as well.

I got into a discussion on the official forums about really expensive, rare crafted gear for levels 10-14. People are charging several gold for these, because the harvested materials cost so much, thus driving up the price. I understand that. What I didn't appreciate was the declaration that the gear was for people that wanted to be "the best". And that people who couldn't afford it were just jealous, and should get out there and kill some more mobs so that they could catch up.

I had a terrible FFXI flashback, and I got all kinds of angry about it. I mean, in FFXI, I farmed like a crazy person. I never had any issues with out of date gear. But I didn't like the constant pressure. I don't want to have to deal with that crap here too.

I'm all for buying good/best gear for your level. But there is a point for me where the benefit no longer justifies the price. For low *** level gear, I'm not going to pay 2-4 gold per piece of equipment. I fly through levels 10-14, or even 10-20. I'll just have to turn around and sell the crap all over again in a week or so.

Anyway, I'm not too keen on log parsers for that very reason. What happened to having fun? How on earth can a group work together towards a common goal if we're all focused on topping one another? It's silly.

Just report them

A parser should run on the log file for the user's info. If it has a means of transmitting this back into the game then it is probably breaking the EULA by interfering with the client in memory. It could just be spoofing a typed input but that probably wouldn't be "clever" enough for someone wanting this effect.

I had only one group where this was used. Fortunately, I was playing my Defiler as MH in Fallen Gate and I was not concerned with DPS. Funny thing is the parser(19 Shaman) dinged 20 during our grouping and immediately equipped a full set of carbonite chain and the best weapon and jewelry available for the level. I had an immediate attack of gear envy followed by thoughts of "filthy Ebayer" echoing in my brain. He may not have been "one of those" but overall he sure fit the profile and mentality.

i bought a full suit of vanguard plate when my guardian hit 20.... no ebaying here.... It's perfectly normal to be able to afford a suit at that level, storebought mind you.

I hear ya. It wasn't just the gear - it was the whole attitude that I observed over the course of grouping. /shrug I upgrade too when I can.

Honestly I don't agressively party...

HOWEVER.. unlike the game which shall not be named.. in EQ2 one can solo...

that said if the mentality of certain players shifts and I start hearing crap about an item I have that's white to my level, I'll assume that means they want a differen predator or whatever class I'm playing and immediately disband.

I play the game to have fun...

grouping is *sometimes* fun...

soloing is always fun...

and I don't have to put up with any arguements about this item or that item to get ahead, may take longer solo'ing but I'm in no hurry.

What was surprising is in one party I asked if anyone was from or have played FFXI. Everyone said no. Must be more games out there like it too.

I know exactly what you went through. That’s my primary concern; it completely killed the fun for me.

We defiantly on the same page. There’s a limit to the point it may be wasteful. I’m with you on that one.

Yeah, right now I see them more harm then good. That’s not saying their totally bad. I said before I see some nice applications for it. But I only see them being used, imo negative ways.

Sounds like most of you feel the same way I do.
