What spot in PT does a Scout occupy?Follow

For example in FF, Thf was weak physically, but a monster when backstabbing from behind, and had skills that allowed them to get more/better items after slying enemies.

Is Scout similiar to this on EQ2? i mean is he strong melee fighter, or someone u can solo and open chests/earn money like no other.

A scout is a mixture of THF and MNK in FFXI. It can open chests when they drop (playing solo this is not very often) and cause a whole lot of damage, especially if you are dual wielding (NIN in FFXI).

As you get on later, you can be a Bard (same in FFXI), Ranger (ditto) or Rogue (closest to THF in FFXI).

thing I've noticed though is I get a hefty amount of chest solo'ing my predator...

... unfortunately they're almost always full of those god awful Far Seas Reqs.. :-\ Though I did manage to find two pairs of chain boots while solo'ing last night....

and no less than 3 far seas requisitions... grumble

Scouts in EQ2 serve a number of roles.

Their DPS against a single target is proubably the highest in the game. You can easily hit a single target for more damage over time then any other class in the game when in a group. On the flip side, you can not take the damage so when soloing you need to be somewhat carefull on what you pick on. :)

Their ability to Open Locks is very nice for keeping those chests from killing party members, and tracking can come in very handy when looking for a specific opponent.

A lesser role but still noticable, is their debuff or side features. Lowering the defence of an opponent can make it much easier for everyone else to hit it. Snaring that add thats chasing your Cleric can come in handy. Lowering the damage the oppenent can deal will realy make your tank happy. Ecta. These abilities may very based on your finnal class of course. :)

I have yet to notice this. I "disarm" every chest for the skill-ups but they still explode almost every time.

DPS is phenomenal though when you have the mobs back. I spend most of my time however as a "tanking ranger" and we do fine.

Although I tend to do a lot of soloing, when I am grouped, I spend most of my time behind or flanking the mob. The abilities of the ranger are excellent. I usually use Hunt, creap up behind the mob, then attack using Shadow Blade. My highest DD hit so far is roughly 280 using that combo. Blade Fury is also nice when soloing a group of mobs, because you occassionally hit the non-targeted mobs who are standing there beating down on you. Add a decent poison and you could solo whites and the occassional yellow all day long.

Best ability that scouts get is "Escape"

This ability alone has same me and my party members from tons of debt. Also if you know where you are going, it can make travel a little faster too ;)

Please, do not relate EQ2 to FFxi in anyway. FFxi's unbalanced job system is nothing like EQ2's system. There are four main roles each archtype has. The scouts role is DPS and Support. Depending on which class you choose to branch off of, you will be either more DPS than utility, more utility than DPS, or a mixture of both. I am not going to go any further than that since several posts already mention specific abilities for each class.

Just make sure you know not to compare FFxi with EQ2. The jobs in FFxi are nothing like the classes in EQ2. Even the classes in EQ1 are not so similar to the classes in EQ2.
