Hello all,

I was just wanting to start a thread to see what everyones opinion is on what class they think is the most fun to play and why.

Have at it and thanks! :)

Well, I really enjoy being a Sorcerer (and Wizard). In past games I've always played the role of tank, and I actually did start down that path in EQ2 as well. But I've found my niche with Sorcery.

I also tried being an Enchanter and a Summoner. Just not my cup of tea. :/

I'm looking forward to giving either Druid or Cleric a try at some point though. I think it would be interesting to try out a healer. :)

I enjoy wizard the most but my main is a Fury nowadays since I duo better with my g/f, a guardian.

We need more good wizards and warlocks btw.
Not many understand that wizard should burn mana AND health with painfull meditation at the same time as they melee.
My dps is almost twice as high as any other wizard I have grouped with so far according to my parser.
Also, if you have 2 healers one should be assigned as mainhealer (only healing maintank). Send the secondary healer a tell and ask him to toss you a few HoT once in a while if encounters gets hard or if you get adds.

I hardly ever see any wizard use painfull meditation in combat only when not in combat mode. :(
A wizards true power lies within painfull meditation or canni if you want.. :p

I totally agree. I have never understood why more don't use their Painful Meditation as often as it's available. Of course, that does rely on the fact that you'll get a heal from one of the healers, but that's not usually too hard to work out.

If I have no power, I can't cast. So, I use it as often as I can. :)

A druid. It was a little hard to get to lvl 14, but at that point I really took off, because I finally got SoW! At that point I only died if I went LD or took crazy risks or got really unlucky - SoW let me fly away from almost anything.

Soloing, which I did a lot, back in those days I mostly snared and nuked. Root didn't hold so well, and I had no idea when my DoTs ran out (this was fixed much later). As I went up in lvls it got frustrating, because I had all these animal=only spells - but where were all the animals?

But then I found out that in wolf form I wouldn't be attacked by anything in Unrest. Woo hoo. That was cool. Trains ignored me. I felt sorry for group members who got wiped - run when we say run, don't stand there! Oh the memories.

And then Kunark came out. WoW, no, wow. There were suddenly animals to hunt. Charm animal was fun but broke too often. I could fear-kite like a necro! I could solo blood RED sabretooth tigers - I ended up stunning passersby. STs had insane hitpoints, and in those days no one much wanted to fight em. So I soloed em.

And then this other druid saw me and said, "Did you realize you have an area damage spell now?" I said yeah, but it's a dumb one. He said nooooo... yer not thinkin. And he taught me how to QUAD!

MAN that wasn't just fun, it was Electrifying! It wasn't easy, either = you really had to be on the ball and figure out all sorts of tricks. But w/ tracking to help u get 4 of the same kind of mob - couldn't get too far ahead or they'd stop chasing - Kunark was that way - and bunching them was tricky = u had to snare them and not get killed in the process, too - no area snare like a wiz - and then it was nuke time. Man it was glorious when all four dropped at once, esp. if they were evil cactus men and made that creaking tree dropping sound! Woot.

And then Velious came out. That was very cool (oops pun, sorry). Charm animal worked better ther for some reason - charming wooly rhinos - snare em first so that when snare breaks they can't get u... quadding wyverns and stuff - and at this point I was invited into a serious raiding guild.

Had been going to Fear and Hate - and now we were killin dragons and stuff. Occasionally picked up some uber gear. Began working on my epic. But what was so fun was that I had a million options each time I went in to play.

I could heal a group. I could explore Luclin. Oh I totally forgot about teaming w / my enchanter pal. I'd snare, she'd charm. In the Grey they put in these evil, super hard to kill Rock monsters = we'd charm those and pwn the zone! Heck we'd been charmin hill giants in Rathe ages ago.

Drolvarg... I forgot which kind, but I could track this one badasp Drolvie, and if we could charm it, payday! We had us a nuclear powered killin machine on our hands. Anyway, I could duo like that - or team - or raid - or beg peple to help me get another step done on my epic ( a few I could solo) - or I could root-dot, quad, charm-kite, fear-kite, snare and nuke.

Man, that was FUN... the whole way up there was always this new spell I wanted - or an ability ... and this was way before they put in AAs. Yeah, that was a ton of FUN....

...oh wait, but you probably meant what was my funnest characer to play in *EQ2* ! sorry (ok, added spaces, hope that's better!)

I kinda enjoy playing scouts the most so far, not to sure why but i just do.

I initailly wanted to have my pally as a main but i think by the time i betray my Rat over and become a fully fledged Swashbuckler there will be no comeing back.

No druids in EQ2. Just tree sap and ghost flavored clerics.

About the Painful Meditation issue, or Pain Med as I call it. Both Wizards and Warlocks get this abilitity because it is a Sorcerer class ability. I think the higher the rank of the spell, the more health it converts to power per use. I always try to cast then use it when it refreshes, however it can be hard to do this right away due to HOs or other needs. However, it is not a risk free process. I think pain medding does carry a hate value along with it, and that coupled with chain nuking, (I presume that is why you are using it) can and have lead me to death. Your HP is obviously lower when you pain med, allowing you to die more easily and giving the tank or healer less time to pull the mob off of you or heal you. This is just my experience and it may just have been some bad tanks, but I think the risk of pain medding out is outweighed by its benefits.

I have stopped playing my erudite warlock for a little while and am trying out halfling rouge, and really liking it. While the groups have been pretty mediocre so far, I expected that because with my warlock, good groups for rotstuffed crows and BB clears did not start until Lv 15+ . However, the solo so far has been very rewarding. Its great to see a blue mob's health be orange before they hit you once. Some low lv group mobs have trouble even connecting which makes them viable for solo, although not as good as massacring blues.

You should go to eq2.graffe.com
It is a homepage classpecific for wizards. Its been around for ever and have alot of very experienced wizards there to give you tips and advice.
Not all agree on everything but they/we all agree painfull meditation is the key to being a good wizard. Let tank get initiall agro and have him/her lock it good then start chainnuking.
Your right about the fact it makes stuff more dangerous no doubt but I can ensure you I have been the reason for saving us from full groupwipe many times by doing this, having my health down to 10-15% and no mana at all when fight is over.
Most of the time the healer/healers wont have a problem healing you either. Why? healers nukes < wizards nukes and most of the time healers do nuke alot to waste mana for group efficience.

well when I first got EQ2 I created my little scout with the goal of taking her up the path of the assassin.. and so far I've enjoyed playing predator.. just this morning I bought a few upgraded poisons and two "Badlands" Stilletto's. (did I spell that right.. aww well doesn't matter I guess).

It's fun sneaking about and when you get in that 130 dmg back attack it sorta gives you a warm fuzzy feeling in your heart.. ^_^

looking forward to getting home tonight and trying out the new weapons.

but..

my Conjuror is my baby.. I adore this class.. I'm talking solo'ist dream come true, and because of that she's higher level than any of my other characters.. but I figured my predator needed some love too so I'm playing her for the next few weeks.. at least til I ding 20th.

Mine always has been, and probably always will be, a healer... specifically a Templar. I just love healing people... always have since first time I played D&D. The changes to who you can heal are actually the things I like least about EQ2; I used to love throwing heals and buffs at everyone I came across in the original.

But anyways, yeah, I love being a healer. I like to be responsible for everyone and keep them all happy and healthy ^^

Necromancer. always a necromancer, why? because of the amazing power and versatility of that class. being able to take on something an entire group of well rounded chars would shake in fear of trying. being able to help people through verious strange but helpfull methods makes it alot of fun. the whole " hey i didnt know a necro could do that!" is funny to see sometimes as well. in eq1 i enjoyed an alt of mine as a cleric. clerics can be used in many many ways besides just healing, although healing is indeed the main job of a cleric. lots and lots of fun with that one.

well...id had alot of experience in EQ1 playing many of the classes..put a necro (loved him)..ranger...cleric...mage..warrior..wizard..and beastlord all past 65. Really didnt enjoy the pure melee characters in EQ1..even with the changes in skills with PoP it still seemed kind of limited. But ill admit i really liked to nuke and use pets...so those were my favorites in EQ1. SOOOO when i came to EQ2...I wanted to try something a little different...but at the beginning it appears sort of limited cause you only get offered the 4 main branches. Ive lvled each of the 4 main brances up to their cities and initial rooms, but to my delight...ive discovered that the melee classes are alot more fun here then they were for ME in EQ1. With all the different skills and HOs I'm usually busy clicking all kinds of hotkeys to combine for good damage..and they can solo decently. I've since gotten a Kerran Paladin into the mid 20s and a troll Warrior to about 20. They are a good time. The paladin can actually keep himself healed ok if im solo. But for oldtimes sake I have a 19 sorcerer as well. Still love to nuke !

One question about the wizards Pain med.

Does the painfull meditation carry hate agrro with it?

I haven't found any aggro by using it and personally I ALWAYS use painful meditation during battles (unless i do carry aggro but that usually = death). In my opinion I use it whenever I have green health (about 85-100% health) just because I don't want to carry 60/50% health ever during a combat sitaution just in case.

But yeah, I use it all the time because to me it is free mana as long as I don't get hit... what's sounds more efficent: regenning mana or mana AND health at the same time? I am weird that way I guess :o)
