Basically you treat it like a story, rather than a game. You give your character some sort of personality that you feel you'd like to play, and you act accordingly. Some people enjoy having elaborate back stories, and others prefer to keep it a bit more simple.

That is exactly what people who "RP" do. That amounts to nothing but talking down to people in between fights and walking around town instead of running everywhere. Outside of a group I hardly ever speak to people because people have a habit of ignoring others in this game so I stopped trying. I have yet to group as a character from a good city, but I'll see how that works when I get to that point.

I have an iksar on LD. He hates all non iksar and iksar who don't think like he does. He hates all the iksar for not leaving FP and making their own village or die trying. He was shipwrecked trying to get from Visk to Kunark.

Now, I'm forced to live in a human city, buy from soft skin merchants, let erudites call me stupid all day and just take it, and if I don't compremise and group with soft skins I would never be able to get anything done. RPing is no feasable. If I did RP I'd be out in the commonlands with no armor, no weapon, no money, no food, no nothing. Lvl 6 forever. Actually, if it were possible I would have killed everyone on the Far Journey and turned the ship back toward Faydwer or Kunark.

So basically, I'm forced to be what I hate. If I could make my own armor, food, and weapons without a crafting center and lvl with having to do so quests, then maybe I could RP. But MMORPG's are not designed for RPing. That's why they have "RP preferred" servers instead of "RP enforced". Wouldn't be nice to have RP **** GM's running around:)

So, what does roleplay come down to? Me letting group members know I hate them at every opportunity. Talking about how the Sebelisian empire conquered Faydwer and other unprovable dogma. I can only go so far because there are people on the other side who are more than likely crybaby sissies so I can't even SAY all the things an iksar might say. Do I consider that RP? Not really. I can't really DO or SAY anything an iksar would DO or SAY. The same goes for trolls, ogres, barabians, etc. Real RPing requires PvP, the ability to at least beat up any NPC, the ability to be a loner at any lvl, etc., and 100% of the server population to be mature and on the same page. I don;t want to have to tell people I'm roleplaying. If you think I'm an ***.. good. Hate me. That's the point. But people are crybabies. They come to RP servers and get mad at you for RPing. It's ridiculous.

Those are some mighty strict requirements you have there. Most people that I know seem perfectly happy roleplaying in the world as it is. If you can't find a way to work out why your character is doing the things that he or she is doing, then you're just not going about it the right way, or perhaps you're intentionally making it difficult.

I'm sorry that you feel that this game isn't conducive to RP, but I have to respectfully disagree with your conclusion and your reasons.

Real RPing: No

Well, since you haven't been crowned the official arbiter of what is and isn't RP, I'll just take that with a grain of salt.

Now, you're just being silly.

Sure, more people flag themselves as RP more on LD and AB, but that doesn't mean they do.

This is worth pointing out. Some people misuse the RP tag and don't roleplay. There are also roleplayers who don't use the tag.

As far as names, even on the rp preferred servers, there are many who break the naming policy and have yet been made to change their names. Best thing to do is petition the names you see that are breaking the policy. Realize, however, that even if you don't like the name, petitioning it will only be a waste of time if said name does NOT break the naming policy rules.

I was in a long discussion about this on the LD forums. :/ So, in short:
Unacceptable names (actual names listed are ones I've seen on LD):
*name that references lewd acts or body parts*
Sturmm Brightblade
Raistlinmajere
Stinkyfinger

Acceptable names:
Chocolate
Thonghammer (not underwear thong, but a loop of leather that that one would "holster" their hammer)
Patch

People host RP events where we all get together

Indeed, there is a winter street fair that will occur on AB and there's a little get together (with foot race event) that will be happening on LD. I think both events will be on the 15th. For further details, click the links above.

I have a quick question. I was wondering are there an excess amount of a certain class on either server. I know someone who plays on a different server and they were talking about how there are so many guardians and the such and I was wondering is it this way on Lucan or AB server with any particular class? My reason for asking is that I do not wish to play a class that it seems every body and there brother are playing.. I am trying to be unique as possible I guess

Aye, Miravelle is correct. However, Brawlers are also tanks. So if that's what you want to do, check out all three class branches to see which would fit your playstyle. As far as healer class goes, I've seen both instances where a zone is devoid of healers and another where a bunch of healers were lfg.

Miravelle, great link. ^^

And yes, I agree with Miravelle. Even if dueling is not in EQ2 (it is a facet of rp, I will admit), it is not the only thing that's Roleplaying. You forget the Beggar who does odd jobs for people in the city for a little coin but rarely ever leaves the city, or a Bard that performs in taverns and only goes adventuring to get new stories and new songs to sing in the next tavern. You forget the Woodsman, helping lost adventurers by guiding them out of a dangerous forest or escorting them to an outpost. As for evil classes, you already have experience there.

If the game mechanics prevent you from doing exactly what your character would do, then blame the constraints in an rp way. Much like the advice given here.

I'm gonna get kicked out of alla by posting all these external links. ><;

Ha! What's funny is that I'm xGraemex. I named it after my first EQ2 character, without thinking of the long term ramifications of a user name. :/ Now I wish I could have gone with something else. But I was in a hurry to get to the playing.

Hey! I've seen that name somewhere... Hrmm...

If it's ingame, you can always get a friend (or friends) to petition it or something. :P

Nah. I deleted that guy a long time ago. I thought I'd try something different, and was going with a male human crusader. I hated it, and him, and so while I'm stuck with the name, I've long since moved on character-wise.
