Roleplaying Servers QuestionFollow

Hello all!

I was thinking of joining one of the roleplaying servers just for the mere fact of me not being able to stand characters with stupid..cheezy names. Anyhows, I was wondering if people actually roleplay on the roleplaying server quite a bit or is it pretty much just like any other server?

Thanks!

People do roleplay. Not everyone does, because the servers are not restricted to roleplayers only. However, there is (especially on Antonia Bayle) a very strong RP community.

That said, you shouldn't just expect people there to walk up and start roleplaying with you, although it's certainly a possiblity. It's generally best to get out there and try to RP with others. You'll almost always get a favorable response that way. :)

I hope that helps. I'll be happy to elaborate, if you have any other questions.

Just becuase a server says "Full" doesn't mean it's closed to new characters. It just means that it's at capacity, and if you want less lag, you should look elsewhere.

Thanks Miravelle for your help!

*Nods* Aye, I am looking for a strong roleplaying community. Does anyone know how good of a RP server Lucan is?

As an aside, you might want to check out the EQ2 RP Union. It's a great place to get to know the RP community. :)

The RP community on LD is ok. But most times when I'm on, I see more "l33t". To the their benefit however, they restrict themselves to /ooc and, unfortunately, /shout.

If it gets too bad, I turn both channels off and enjoy the spatial atmosphere of the rpers who are present.

Well, it seems as Antonia Bayle is the better of the two roleplaying servers. However, I guess lag will play a little factor in which of the two I choose and I was wondering how is the lag on both of them?

Someone mentioned this, and I completely agree, take a little time in both servers. You never know what you may find.

As far as lag, well AB is filled most of the time, but I think LD is catching up on peak times. For one of the days (Friday) I play, I usually start after midnight EST, so it's not all that bad lag-wise. On sat-sun it can get a bit laggy in some parts of town (especially Willow Wood as of late, so many people there), but not too much with outside zones.

*added*
One of the really cool features of EQ2 that I appreciate (my coming from FFXI) is that at anytime I can choose to create a character on another server, provided I have an empty character slot.

*Nods* I think im going to choose the less laggy route and go with the Lucan Server. I know ya'll said it doesn't have as strong of a RP community as perhaps the AB server does but I guess I will just ignore the LEET speakers and try to add my part of roleplaying in on the server.BTW, I appreciate all of your help!

I have never seen anyone using l33t speech on LD or any other server.

Who are these l33t speaksers everyone talks about?

People RP on LD, AB, Faydark, Nektulos, etc. They all seem to roleplay just the same when I am on. Sure, more people flag themselves as RP more on LD and AB, but that doesn't mean they do.

You really can't afford to roleplay. MMORPG's aren't really designed for roleplay and this game especially leaves no room for it. At best, the only "roleplaying" you can do is talking crap about other races within your group in between fights.

Ah, okay. Well, The main thing I am trying to steer away from are the people with retarded names...thats just a pet peeve of mine and I like to roleplay so I figured one of the RP servers would be a good choice. Are there only two or are there more?

I completely disagree. Clearly you haven't spent much time in the company of roleplayers on AB or Lucan. There is a lot of room for RP in the game, and I (and many others) personally feel that it adds a lot to the experience. Rather than just grind, grind, grind to the top, we take our time, get to know one another, and have fun with our characters. People host RP events where we all get together for a night of festivity at one of the local taverns, or for a story telling session or something like that. There are many things to do in these games other than just rush through the levels.

As for talking crap about the other races, that's just poor man's RP. It's an attempt, I suppose, but it's not a very good one. Nice job with the "facts" there.

The true fact is that RP is what you and others make of it. If you want to craft an elaborate story for your character, you can. If you just want to have a basic personality for your character and work out the rest, that's fine too. The key element in any RP experience is you. If you make the most of the experience, then you'll end up having a lot of fun.

*Lets out a breath of relief* Shew! Thats refreshing to hear..I just got EQ2 in today and was still worried about if there was going to be nothing other than the grind grind grind.

Oh, and thanks for the RP Unions site. Its very helpfull.

Well, if you find yourself on AB at all, look up Charmides, my character. :) There are some people in the union on Lucan as well, but I don't know any names, alas. :/

Hullo all,

I have a quick question. I was wondering are there an excess amount of a certain class on either server. I know someone who plays on a different server and they were talking about how there are so many guardians and the such and I was wondering is it this way on Lucan or AB server with any particular class? My reason for asking is that I do not wish to play a class that it seems every body and there brother are playing.. I am trying to be unique as possible I guess

Thanks!

Thats a post I made on the EQ2 RP Union site and thought maybe someone could help me out here as well. :-)

Well, that leaves out most scout classes, unfortunately. They are incredibly popular across the board.

Healers are pretty strong in number, but they are always in need. So, while you may not be as unique as some other classes, you'll never want for a group. Cleric subclasses are pretty popular, as well as those in the Druid line. Shamans less so, but that is because some groups are haters.

Mages are pretty common (I'm one.), but still very fun to play. If you want to go with the rarest and most needed, an Enchanter is a good class to go with. Sorcerers and their subclasses are a dime a dozen, unfortunately for me. But it's a very fun class to play if you like blowing things up.

Fighters are always in need as well. If you like to tank, either the Warrior or Crusader subclasses are useful. There are an awful lot of Crusaders because of the whole horse thing, but there are still a fair number of the other classes as well.

If I were going to suggest any two options, I'd say go with Enchanter or one of the healing classes. :)

Viginalsecretio was a name I saw on LD in IoR. I doubt he still has that name, but I see plenty of dumb names at lvls 20+ on all servers.

*Nods* Aye, My three choices were either Ranger, A Tank class or an Mage. Ah, Oh well.. I will just play whatever class tickles my fancy I guess lol :)

Miravelle, how do you RP a woodelf, iksar, troll, halfling, or whatever you play?

What do you DO?
#22 Jan 12 2005 at 2:57 AM Rating: Good
Basically you treat it like a story, rather than a game. You give your character some sort of personality that you feel you'd like to play, and you act accordingly. Some people enjoy having elaborate back stories, and others prefer to keep it a bit more simple.

Here is a thread that explains what RP is, and how to do it. It's a bit long, perhaps, but there is some very good information in there.

RP Guide

edit> There are powergamers on every server, unfortunately. We have a lot of people on AB who not only don't RP, but feel the need to mock those who do. Clearly, since the server is tagged RP Preferred, these people just get their jollies by trolling.

edit2> A tool that I found very useful was a list of questions people have been using at the RP Union. I didn't know the answers to most of them until I sat down and started answering them. My character's personality spawned from that.

Hey Miravelle,

Is that list of question you were talking about a sticky? I can't seem to find it..maybe its late and the sleep is clouding my vision I dunno :P
#24 Jan 12 2005 at 3:23 AM Rating: Good
No. I had to cut and paste it from someone else's post.

The original post with those questions was so well liked that now everyone is using it. I'm just a follower, not a trend setter. :/

Well, I haven't changed the questions, so you could cut and paste from my bio if you wish. The link is above.
