Tradeskill QuestsFollow

Now, at around level 10, tradeskill wholesaler tasks -- that is, the ones where you have to harvest 15 electrum clusters or tubers or maple -- were actually a great source of income. 12 silver for each outing turned out pretty well.
Once I joined a more specific crafting society and got production orders for JumJum wine (a simple recipe, 20 craftings to make: 10 for the jumjum juice, and 10 more to turn those into wine), I figured they would pay even better, considering the extra effort and money that needed to go into fuel and basic ingredients. I was taken a little by surprise when it turned out to pay just 9 silver -- less than the wholesaler's quest!
I got another work order some levels later, for ten laborer's vests. These things were a lot more complicated, and it took 90 craftings to finish all 10, not including basic resins and washes. But this only paid 9 silver too! I'd been ripped off. I'd spent so much on fuel, I barely turned a profit.

So now that I'm done ranting, here's my question: Just how much do the different tradeskill quests pay... and do they ever become profitable?

Just trying to turn a little cash to support my habit.
Thanks.

These quests are NOT meant to rake in the cash for you. The Wholesaler was a mistake, they have fixed.

You can make some decent funds, but you will make a lot more selling to players.

Tradeskill Quests let you grind on given items and having them "sell" for just over NPC Merchant value. You will make more money doing this compaired to selling straight to the NPC. In addition the Society you work for will level up with time. This allows you to purchase some items that may make your life much easier. For example T1 and T2 Tempers and componets can be purchased at most WholeSaler Societies now. If people level up their Workshop you can expect much better returns.

Note: Pick and choose your orders, dont be afraid to go do something else for 2 hours (in game) and come back for a new tasks. Some of the tasks issued just are not worth the time. The idea task will be something as high of level as possible and have no more then 3 basic sub-combines. Rewards are scaled directly to the teir your working on, not the specific item. For example, Making 150 throwing daggers (trivial) will give you the same return as making 10 Iron Breastplates (pain in the arese). The higher your teir, the more you make. At T4 its around 1.7 gold, and T5 is a fair chunk more.

Think yourself lucky, since the scholars have to make App III spells for thier wholesaler task and they are bugged and only appear as App II, you do not get Quest credit for any you make

at upwards of 50sp per spell to make.

As a 19 Craftsman I get 12s for the Wholesaler and 36s for the Workshop tasks.

I've only done the tier 3 workshop tasks on my carpenter and here is what I've found. Tier 3 the merchants will pay 12s each for finished goods. The workshop task reward is 1g 44sp. Most of the workshop tasks I've gotten have been make 10 of an item. So..

Sell 10 finished items direct to npc - 1g 20sp
Do a workshop task for 10 items - 1g 44sp

With the workshop task my society gains experience, and I get a little bit more than selling to npc (furniture rarely sells on my bazaar overnight priced cheap).

I never do the wholesaler task to collect resources since I use almost everything I collect.

I harvest my own materials and coordinated my alts tradeskill professions to keep costs low. My only regret is going armorer instead of weaponsmith.. damn you carbonite spikes!!!!
