Trouble fighting after the patchFollow

#27 Jan 11 2005 at 10:41 AM Rating: Decent
update:

now then.. I took my predator out last night and though she's only 16th level I figured I'd hit on a few solo things just to check it out as I said I would.

I took on several blue and green cons.. and a few white cons in The Commonlands..

the blues and greens were not a problem..

the whites could do a good bit more damage.. but I was still able to beat them in an acceptable amount of time and be in the low green or yellow...

had a situation of fighting 3 blue con solo's at once... that was a MUCH closer fight (was in the low orange by the end of the fight) but I DID do it.

--------------------------------------------------

separate test: - single ^ group green... 2 on 1 combat

my predator has never been able to take group mobs.. I do have SEVERAL skills that need upgrading (best of anything I have is App II) and I've been making a bit of coin to upgrade my weapons.. but I figured it would be interesting...

side note: is it just me.. or are there no scribes in freeport? I searched at the beginning of the night and just before logging and found only 2 adept books for sale.. neither of which I could afford.. not a single App III combat art for sale for predators... I'm considering taking up scribe, filling the void in the market, and reaping the benefits.

anywho, I was able to pretty soundly defeat one of the orcs.. however 2 on 1 is just not do-able for her.. I suspect if I found a "group" mob that was alone single ^ I could take it down FAST.. I'm also mildly confident that with a few App III or Adept 1 upgrades she could soundly trash ^^ green in one on one combat *IF* the initial back attack succeeds.

For the record.. those mobs do have the word "group" under the name for a reason... solo them at your own risk (and at considerable risk I might add if you can't heal yourself). Technically a group is 2 or more.. so find a duo-partner and go for them with slightly less risk. Only my Conj. can take on 2 on 1 and have an easy time of it.. and *technically* Summoners, Conjurors, and Necros are "duo classes" due to the pet.

Shield helps alot. This game is more about AC then HP. I almost want to say this game is ALL about AC.
I have a lvl 21 wizard and a lvl 24 druid and sometimes play a lvl 24 guardian. None of them have any real problems soloin green ^^.
The fury is the one that comes closest to dying. The wizard is the one breaking the encounter most often, he will yell if root refuse to stick after a couple of tries.
The guardian is the one that does best cause he never gets hit because of 1500 AC.

I cant really say for your class ofcourse but I have a friend lvl 31 assasian that solo'ed a lvl 37 mob. (no uparrows though).
It was close but doable.
Remember HO's are your friend.

Correction on the above post.
Group can be 2 people sure but if you read the description for 'Group' mobs it is best suited for a group of 3 or more. :)

Thanks for the advice on the shield bumbi. I will take a shield for a spin tonight and see how it goes. I am ho'ing m @ss off in fights, so I don't think that is the issue.

Thanks again.

I can't even kill a single solo white mob right now :-(

I could easily do it before the patch. I was lvl 20 before the patch fighting white solo single lizards. now after patch. same setup exactly. Not one landed hit. :-(

Answer to the question you actually asked no trouble not with orange, white or some reds. A little harder hitting don't take anymore damage than they did.

Trouble might be the "wall" as I like to call it. There seems to me to be a wall of ac in which mobs of a certain level cannot hit me whatsoever and the same is true of me hitting mobs.

5 ac difference either way and the wall comes down and the fights are much tougher, mobs actually hit you that couldn't touch you before.

If they increased the mobs ac even slightly you may be hitting this "wall". I haven't parsed it but I have tried using armor with very little ac difference and at certain ac their is a wall especially to green arrow mobs.

Now never ever hitting a mob might be a bug not being able to kill them might require spell upgrades and gear upgrade. I almost doubled my ac when I hit 20 so I assume it was the same for you or you need to upgrade your gear.

Grump,

Do you think that little armor makes a big difference? Interesting. If so, a shield for an assasin may do the trick since it will most likely raise my AC by at least 50.

I know it wasn't directed at be, but thanks.

Ok, just fought a granitescale basilisk. Blue con to me but made sure it was level 20. Note, I am 21 Guardian.

I had 81% health and 43% power after fight.

Got Soldier's Stance (appI) up always. Prebuffs before fight:
1. Call to Arms (appII)
2. Rallying Cry (appII)
3. Battle Tactics (appI)

Armor: All vanguard, 2 are player crafted.
Weapon: Pristine forged carbonite greatsword

attack: 353 AC: 948

A couple combat arts missed initially, but I hit consistently. Then I started connecting and my HO's went off. Used kick in between HO's.

It was no contest.

Of course, like I said, I don't know if my experience will mean much since I'm 21 and not a brawler.

Things would change dramatically if I were to hit the Steppes and knock around some of the wildlife. I'd always get out of fight with yellow health bar.

OK, so my AC is currently 614. Attack is 293. The problem is not that They hit me. It's that I can't hit them :-( So it's there AC is too high?

Well they must have changed it an awful lot for me to not be able to kill the things I had no trouble with a week ago. Same AC and Attack. Same mob.

Oh well ***** it. I'm gonna try once more. If it don't work, I'm killing this account.

OK so I went out to fight. Apparently I was bugged before. My crushing skill never went up and in the patch they "fixed" it.

So my Crushing skill was like 45 of 98. After many almost deaths, once my skill hit 85 I was able to kill the whites again.

Nice one there SOE.

Yet another reason why WoW gets most of my time.

edit -- thx to all who gave info.

Ah! Skill with weapon type. That should've been one of the first things I should've checked.

That's just whack. Glad it's working-ish now, though. :)
