Do you think the adventure packs SOE recently announced is a good idea? I'm not sure about others but the idea of having to pay an extra $5 for some new content is kinda absurd to me. Why can't they put these into the new expansion? or make it free just like the other patches?

this is sadly enough just a way for them to get you to pay more for the story line.. you noticed i am sure that if you have the station pass you get it for free... see if you have the station pass they can show subcription numbers for all those games. if everyone has a station pass they can claim eq and eq2 our both increaseing subscriptions.. along with making conciderably more money monthly.

I think its another way to get money out of you, then again... one time fee and if you have Station pass its free. I planning on getting the station pass when my 1 year EQ subscription lapses in April so I can play both games. At the moment I'm leaning toward going back to EQ and playing EQ2 rarely with friends who are here. I am still very upset with the way Sony has been running EQ2, I like the game, but their attitude is as always... miserable and completely unresponsive.

If not for friends playing the games I would likely walk away from both and find some type of a fantasy game where it was just you against the computer. But I've got friends here, real life and EQ and that's what Sony is counting on. So, as long as they are here I hate admitting it, I likely will be as well... and the more content there is to explore the better. $4.99 per pack with two a year is pretty cheap, so no great cost. What I resent is buying Everquest evolutions, ldon and gates only to have platinum come out a few months later and offer all of that for $30 rather than $90. That burns my britches!

it's fre for those of us who pay the extra for the station pass. which i like. it helps us old EQ players, who still want access to our old accounts from time to time.

the only thing i can suggest to soe is to have the station pass include starwars too. i don't play it. but i think i would if it was in the station paas.

For those that don't know about the adventure pack(as I did not untill I read this post) here is the link for it.

They also mention here about the plan for expansion packs.

If you presently have an EQ subscription and sign up for the Station Pass, they will charge you for the first month of the station pass and add on extra time based on what you EQ subscription balance remaining is pro-rated to the Station Pass rate. My first month of Station Pass lasts till mid-March before I have to renew. So if you do have an EQ subscription with a reasonable balance and find that you are not playing EQ as much as you used to because you are spending time on EQ2, it might be worthwhile considering signing up for the Station Pass now and getting the extra 4 character slots as well.

Im not so sure if this is a bad thing, think of a "Adventure Pack" as a slice of a expansion that you would get by going to a retail store and paying $35 to $40 for. With expansion packs the price is scaled down to the size of the content that we get, we can get the pack on the fly since its size is small enough for download, and the expansion packs should be coming out in faster releases since they are smaller.

Even tho I dont play other SOE games other then SWG, I like the fact that customers who use the Station Pass get them for free, most of the people who have the pass are older customers and I never hold anything against a company who wants to reward its faithful customer base.

But I guess the real proof on if I truely like this idea or not is the content and quality in the packs themselves.

I like it , I can try the new stuff and if I dont like it, I dont have to buy it . These adventure packs wont be full expansions so by not buying it you dont loose out, unless you want to go to the new areas , then you can pay $4.99 for it.

They said something about 2 to 4 packs a year and 2 expansions a year , with expansions I always feel like I have to get them or I can`t go with my guild , or have the spells my guildies have access to. I can`t try the expansion to be sure I want/like it and I have to pay alot more then $5.00 for it LOL.

Total waste of time, and shows how Sony will rip every shred of funds from you while providing as little as possible.

First you pay $50 up front for a game that has a fraction of the content of most of the other ones out there. Then you may the usual (perhaps a little higher) monthly fee. On top of that they provide trivial webservices for an additial fee. Then you can get a couple more characters ofer your minumal 4 for an additonal fee. Then you can unlock a dungeon in a content lean game for additional fees. Oh by the way, ready to buy your next expansion?

I am sorry, but this is just pathetic. Most MMROPGs I play have more content, introduce small areas for FREE, allow you to play a number of characters and have better service for the same or lower monthly fees. Sony does not provide anything to justify the cost, let alone the additonal costs.

Im not sure how I feel about it. Spose I'll have to wait and see how it pans out. It worries me that SOE will shift the monthly fee to more of an access fee and then hit ya with a $5 charge for every other zone. I think I would rather pay my $30 twice a year for expansions and have access to all of the content I want to visit instead of buying a $5 dungeon no one ever wants to group in or joining up with a group and 10 minutes later having them decide they want to head over to the $5 dungeon I don't own.

I would think it would kind of break up the immerssion to be crawling along a dark creepy dungeon and wriggle through an empty grate into a great big screen that says ACCESS THIS DUNGEON FOR ONLY $5.00 US VISIT SOE NOW!!!!11!1!

Xythex brings up a very good point. SayI like the content of the new dungeon and decided to buy it but it's obvious that these areas won't have as many players as say Ant or TS. It'll be very hard to get a group unless you organize it before going into the dungeon. There's also a question of solobility there. If these paid dungeons are soloable, then it would work because it does not require other people to help you out, but I highly doubt it would be such.

I like the idea behind the adventure packs. Do I wish they were free...of course. However, I am not getting a Station Pass to get them for free. I only play EQ2 so the additional $6? a month is not going to equal the $20 I would have to pay a year for 4 adventure packs.

Good idea, bad timing. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the message from the Smedmeister talking about all these great expansions and adventure packs coming every year. Sure these will be great, but there are some things they really need to focus their dev team on first:

- Fix existing bugs. They are making progress, albeit very slowly. There are still bugs that existed in beta that are here today.

- Reliable, well tested patches. It is totally ridiculous to have a patch that creates as many, if not more, new bugs than it fixes.

I had some more rants when I initially read his message, but I guess I'll leave it at those 2 :)

Get the existing game working "better" and stop having to do maintanence/patchs EVERY day, then come talk to me about $$$ adventure packs.

SOE certainly tries to expand the business model and to make money on different kinds of "added value".
I think that with the Adventure Packs they will try to get more people pay for the Station Access stuff, I do not think that the separate access fees are what they expect most of that money to come from.

It does not say if these areas will be common for all, or if will be instanced for different groups and levels (e.g. one instance per group), if it will be repeatable, multiple endings to the story, live events in it etc. It will be intersting to see how it ends up and if SOE's new approaches to gettting customers to pay more will work out as well.

Personally I think it's a great idea, $5 isn't all that much cash, I wasted $8 on a drink at a club the other night I couldn't even finish because it was so bad. I know I'm probably going to get flamed for saying that I don't mind spending money and it's SOE fanboy loyalists like me who are going to bring this game to a screeching halt; but, in all honesty, it doesn't matter. If it's good, it's good and I'll be glad I spent the money on it, if it sucks, well then I wasted $5 and I won't go out for lunch one day.

The Idea is defnitely sound and as long as they do it right, it'll be great. On the otherhand, this could also turn into a steaming pile of gnoll ***** if it's done poorly. I might be wrong but I think somewhere they said something about scaling up the staff and having different teams working on bug fixes than the teams that are working on content. agin as long as they do it right and the 2 groups communicate, it's all good.
