Lvl 20 bluesFollow

#1 Jan 08 2005 at 6:35 PM Rating: Decent
My monk just hit lvl 20... I know, I know, it sucks when some of us have to have a job. I should be lvl 50 by now, right?

I digress. I've spent a long while doing the usual Qeynos quests and I've hunted gnolls, undead and those damn scarecrows until I'm totally sick of them. Where's another spot to hunt for a lvl 20? Should I start one of these armor quests I keep hearing about? If I can't get a definative answer I'll just go exploring like in the good old days. In fact that might do me some good.

Cheers as always,
Turbo

Not sure about Qeynos, but Freeport has a zone off of it made for 20-mid 30's called Nektulos. Maybe there's one like that for Antonica. The armor quest are pretty cool also. They start off easy then become pretty damn hard. So there's plenty to challenge you =p.

The Qeynos equivalent is Thundering Steppes

^^^ there ya go. Should be able to find soloable content there if it is indeed the "Equivilant"

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you are.

My main is a level 20 Necromancer who is almost 90% thru his level and has grouped one time during that span. I've had groups that said they were LFG and not specified the class they wanted go ahead and leave the zone area in Fallen gate rather than invite me- and I was the only one LFG in the entire zone at the time. For Necros, it's that bad.

This latest patch gave me a new tanking pet which totally transforms my solo capabilities from almost nonexistant to, at least, competent if not spectacular.

On the Thundering Steppes: if it is the Good side's equivalent to Nektulos, 20 is the absolutely low end for going there and chances are the lowest mobs will con yellow to you (Nek's does so to me). If you can consistently take yellows, you'll be fine.
groups will be iffy unless you're a class much in demand (frankly, I don't know how groups feel about Monks)- I know that I've had my LFG flag up and announced from time to time in ooc that I'm LFG and gotten no response at all, even with the zone having 80+ in it.

If you just want to hunt then head over to TS and find a group because there isnt very much to kill at level 20. Also DO start your AQs. My Monk started them at 20 and I have finished all of them at 23. If you dont know where to get ours, go to Selwyn in South Qeynos.

Cool thanks for the info.

I think it will take people a while to realize the full potential of each class. Surely each class has strengths that aren't yet realized.

People have balked at having me as the only tank, but I can do just fine. Its hard to shake off those old stigmas of what each classes job is. My monk is simply a tank that doesn't get hit very often. :)

Oh well... Gotta keep grinding I guess.

I'm an evil race and I head to Thundering Steepes when I want to grind xp as well. I have a 25 defiler who has finished all of the armor quests (love the look of them) who hunts out there. I also have a 21 necro who hunts between nektulos and Thundering Steepes depending on if I get a group or not and how many people are soloing the mobs that I would normally solo.

I love having the monk types in my group because they do so much damage. They are a perfectly good tank depending on what you are fighting. If the group is fighting single pull yellow and orange cons a Monk type is great at keeping agro and does just fine at taking a beating. Where they fall short is keeping a group pull of mobs attention. They simply don't have the abilities needed to excell at this like say, a warrior type class has.

And yes, my necro has an extremely hard time finding a group as well.

lvl 20 is abit rough but i found 2 options, 1) solo scarecrows near steppe station or windwalker village 2) go to stormhold and take the second door on the right in the main hall, in that hall roam up and down and each door will have a guard outside it which is green double arrow up, they gave me some pretty sweet exp. as for grouping, its down to preference its probably best to get your armor quests and group in the zones you need quest bits from, AQ1 is practically soloable AQ2 still isnt great exp but AQ3 on wards you need to go to stormhold, thundering steppes, and that funny zone under the down below. anyway hope that helps alittle :D GL in grinding.

not true not true..

I've found a few places to hunt in the TS to hunt at 20 solo...

first go to the stepps station and go to that TS zone, I don't know where you'll end up if you take the zone behind the waterfall.

when you first get into the zone a little way you'll see quite a few strong group mobs.. follow the road a bit, being careful of undead of course and eventually you'll see a side-road heading off to your left..

at 21st level there were quite a few white / blue / and yellow con solo mobs with not a single aggro mob along the path.

if you choose not to make that left turn, continue down the road til you come to a tower on a hill-top, the road will make a sharp turn left and if you go right from that point you'll see destroyed farmland (and some STRONG undead farmers)

anywho, going to the left at that point will net you things that con'd white or yellow to my conjuror at 21st level, and again no high aggro mobs in the area... though this area is smaller than the previous one I mentioned as far as things to solo, it wouldn't be bad XP to make the run between the two areas. Clear one out.. move to the other while the one you cleared re-spawns.

I've not gone terribly much farther beyond this point in TS, only other area I've scouted is where the centaurs are which is farther down the road and over a bridge from the tower on the hill I mentioned.. not much to solo in that area, but it's good for resources due to the non-aggro mobs wandering and you'll have the occassional mob you can take down as well.

Crabs on the beaches in either nektulos or thundering steppes are good from 20-23 solo, moving on to more undead if you want.

Once you hit 23 you should really get in a good giants/centaur group till 25 or 26 (or even beyond), then go to RoV, or get your Zek and EL access quests knocked out of the way and head there.
