If the forum search wasn't broken.. I'd.. I'd... nevermind.

Anyways... For a level 12, all you need to do is quest. If you quest you can get money. And all I did at your lvl was solo mobs and keep all the loot. I've never hurted for money. Some say harvest a lot and sell, some do tradeskills. It's whatever floats your boat.

i had the same problem, but found a way to solve it. well sorta. What i do, is basically solo and keep the loot. This game gives you drops that are either useful, or sell for a good amount of money usually. On top of that you can harvest and sell things. And furthermore you can start throwing the money that you do make into crafting...that will pay off.

oh and another useful thing, sell using the broker system, only sell to merchants when you cant leave your comp on over night to sell.

Well yes and no.

Merchants pay different prices. Find a local merchant who gives you the best price by taking a resonably valuable thing around to several and seeing what they offer.

Then before you go on vendor for the night check what that merchant will give you and make a note of it.

I frequently see things for sale on the market for less than merchants will pay. It is very easy to browse the market, see someone selling your item for 10s and undercut it to 9s. Do this a few times and you can completely miss that the merchant was paying 8s in the first place.

There is even a profit to be made from buying from people who have missed this and selling to merchants. If you take a common item like a Maple Buckler it quite frequently dips below merchant prices. Some recipe books sell to merchants for 13s but are so common you find them down to 5s on the market.

And if you can sell to a merchant for what the market is paying then do so. Instant cash, instant free inventory slot.

Excellent advice, Cobra!! Thank you for the examples, also, as that gives some of us "market noobs" a starting point.

I am currently lvl 20 and have made about 19 gold total (it is kinda neat that it shows you that in the market screen)... I just say that because I don't know if others are making more or less, and it kinda qualifies all the rest of the stuff I am going to say here.

I loot everything. I harvest, collect, mine, fish, gather, etc. everything I can get. I am a pack rat. This will give you something to sell to the vendor.

When you do this you run out of inventory room pretty fast, so consequently, much of the first money I made, I spent on getting larger bags. This allowed me to collect and loot more stuff.

Loot sells to either vendors or other players in the market. But the harvested, gathered, collected, etc. things are mostly sold to other players on the market. All (or almost all) are used in the tradeskill system someplace, so someone will need it. There are somethings that some people always need. There are somethings that will sell often.

Knowledge is power. I used trial and error to find out what things to always collect, or somethings that I don't make money on, I destroy.

When putting thing up for sale on the market... I have a couple different strategies. When I really want to get rid of something, I tend to sell it well below the price of everyone else (but becareful not to go below the price you could get from a vendor). Other things I sell I know will sell eventually so I put the price a bit higher. Most often for the average Item I sell it for either the second highest price i see or just below the second highest price. (this allows people to buy the cheapest thing, which will happen... then I get more money from the next person who buys the stuff.)

I also leave my computer on and sell as often as I can. When I am playing with my kids or working around the house or watching tv... I have my player in market mode. I have upgraded my computer so that I can alt-enter and minimize EQ2, and then do other things with my computer while my char is in market mode.

Working the market and collecting all this crap is not easy. But by lvl 21, I have gained enough money to upgrade all my spells to Apprentice III or Adept I, and purchase bags o plenty to collect all the crap I want.

Note: on my server - Crushbone - the boiled leather backpacks sell for less than then boxes. although the boxes often have 2 more slots, it also weighs 100... research the weight reduction vs slots vs price.

I don't know if the way I do things is the best or not, but this is the way I do it.

I also know that other people make a lot of money by doing tradeskills. I have not enjoyed my tradeskill experience so far. but I know I have given a lot of money to people who make backpacks : )

Okay, i think I have spent enough time typing... and the servers are back up again after the morning take down.

enjoy

A good way I make money is to harvest and then sell the harvested items to crafters. Antonica is a good place to harvest, Thundering Stepps is even better (although some of your skills will need to be 90 plus to advance to TS). Another good way to make money is to group! Fighting grouped mobs is a great way to get nice loot.

Sadly a huge boon to the economy was just killed - the bug in the Wholesaler task quests. You can no longer sell harvested/mined/forested stuff for anywhere near what u used to. To finish the wholesaler task u must actually harvest what he asks u to get - not just buy it off the convenient nearby broker. Rats. Prices should start dropping as the effect of this sets in. I've yet to see a drop- in fact I saw copper cluster for over 20gp, silver for over 30 g, and a Refining volume 4 for 10 gp !!! But prices should come down as all those who were benefitting (buying and selling) begin to feel the pinch.

If u wanna try artisaning - bags, strongboxes, and some spell and ability app lvl 3 upgrades sell okay. Not too hard to skill up, but takes some time. Mostly do lots of quests, and get those ? off the ground. Some of them sell very well. GL

Those items will not drop - they are all rares.

What will drop is the 60c for Electrum/Iron clusters, Severed Maple etc which are the non-rare items which previously fed the wholesaler quests. But you're right quite a few people still seemed to think they were still worth that. I actually went out harvesting roots rather than pay 30c each.

Yep.. before the patch, most Tier 3 harvests were selling for around 3s each due to the ATM bug (gold & carb clusters, belladonna roots, rough agate mainly). I checked last night and most of these things are selling for around 20c on Mistmoore. Harvesting to sell on broker just isn't worth it anymore, except for the rares if you're lucky enough to get those.

I don't think it's that bad.

It will just take a while for the new market to settle down. If items are only bought for their value to someone then which items are valuable is going to take a while to become clear.

For example they took the stat drinks like Black Coffee off the vendors. Now the benefits to power regen are more known someone is going to need to replace that loss. Perhaps coffee beans which up to now have been destroyed will become saleable.

I need Iron for tempers but thanks to nice Mr Hwal Rucksif I have enough to be getting by at the moment

On Kithicor the Tier 3 market is gone. They are now selling for 15c for everything. Personally, I think this is way too low as it takes forever to get the skill to the level needed to be able to even harvest in TS. I can see 15c for Tier 2, and about 50c for Tier 3.

Even though not rares, it is absurd to price Rough Agate and Gold at 15c a piece. Not only is it harder to find the wind-swept stones but you may only get 1 of each from one stone.

Hopefully it will straighten out.

Bluei is right - always go out adventuring w/ a wholesaler's task and try to fill it before u come back to town. Twelve silver at tier two is decent money.

Other posters make good points. Rares won't be as affected by this. And while money is no longer entering the economy at the low end, the more and more players who ding up - they can get more and more money by selling loot and doing higher lvl quests. So, the game's economy is in reality too complex for me to predict.

Thank goodness I saw someone selling copper and silver for lower prices later on. I doubt the ohter people sold them for those crazy prices. But, if higher lvls who have the $ want to twink alts, this is about the one area where u actually can twink in this game - those adept 3's (and other upgrades). So... heh, I guess copper and silver actually will keep going up.
