#1 Jan 08 2005 at 2:31 PM Rating: Decent
I announced the opening of my new information site the other day and used some of the constuctive feedback to put together a "Site Tour" that gives you an outline of what we have before creating an account. Please let me know what you think. The tour is linked on the main news page

This was one of the first things I saw upon entering this site

Quote:
EverQuest Auction Site
Buy / sell EQ Plat, Items, Accounts Premier EverQuest Auction Site Cheaper EverQuest Plat
Millions of Platinum 21,000+ Items Instant Delivery - 24 Hours a Day

Not a very good thing, and I just wanted to look at the site but I have to join? what the hell. The free tour is very limited to a few screen shots, can't really see much of the layout or information. Think I'll just stay here, Thanks anyway.

No sir.

I'm getting sick of all the bashing of google ads. get it through your heads pls. it's GOOGLE. I'm not allied with plat selling companies or anything. Ever see gry-online maps site? It has the exact same ads.

Nobody is forcing you to use it... i really don't appreciate worthless comments like that. keep those to yourself please. Comments and suggestions about the general layout of specific pages / displaying of the data is much appreciated however.

As far as joining yes you have to join so we can track the usage. but joining is FREE.

Hmm seems you dont like a change every now and then, while myself I am all down for a new change. And for the comment about the plat selling advertisement, i really have no prob with cuz i realize that websites have to be sponsored so they can stay up, even if it isnt the most desired or favored sponsor. I'll make an example, a poor one but still an example. Say you love watching nascar races on TV and your favorite driver is Dale Earnhardt (Jr.). Ok, now think if he switched sponsors for a monetary reason because his current sponsor wasnt able to support him, but his new sponsor was... lets say Marlboro cigarettes. Would you hate him cuz his sponsor kills how many hundreds of thousands of people a year? Same situation just on a different scale. I dont like IGE any more than the next gamer but I wouldnt eliminate a possible new source of info about a game i play just because i dont like the sponsor, seriously people (im gonna get flamed for this i know it) but there are other websites out there besides Allakhazam, even though i have found this one to be the most beneficial so far throughout my gaming/forum days.

So all in all Satonin i think you have a good thing goin here, just need to get some more info and more users, myself i just registered about 5 min ago. See you on the forum boards.

Obviously u didn't even look at it then... Our data is 100% our own. We have info Alla doesn't have. skill names. spawn locations, etc. I love it when people bash you without even seeing what they are bashing.

For a quick example. pick any item you can think of, open the item page on alla... then open the item page on archives. you'll quickly see the difference in the data. Archives being the correct data. taken directly from the games datastream.

That's what makes archives so much different than allakhazam. our info is NOT player submitted. Player submitted data is 9/10 wrong in at least some aspect of the information. It's your choice. But i don't see why you wouldnt want to look at correct info as opposed to incorrect info.

Wait, you came here to advertise your site and only wan't to hear positive replys? Man thats truley sad. We really don't want to see you advertise your site here. Please GFY.

The only reason i advertised here is because of a past post. Somebody was complaining about there being no EQ2 lucy. i hinted that i had one in the works. They wanted me to let them know when i was ready. So i did.

I appreciate good and bad comments. but not when you don't even look at the site. The allakhazam community has truely gone down the crapper in the past year i see. I've had a membership for a few years now, guess it's time to consider cancelling since the data here isn't up to par with eq2 anyways.

I personally did look at the site, but wish it had a better tour. Allow everyone to view all content for a few days, that way everyone can compare on first hand.

Thanks for the support. it's good to see not everybody is a rude little kiddy on these boards these days. As far as info, we're not really behind alla, in fact i'd say ahead in many aspects. of the 9,000 items they list on their stats you can only access about 4000 through the browsing methods they provide. (by slot). And our NPC count is almost double of theirs.

Nothing against them. Of course their quest info is some of the best around. Hope to see you around the forums Steve

It's free to create a forum account and takes like 1 min tops. Everything is free right now, feel free to look around to your hearts desire. The reason we require sign up is because it's needed for our anti-leeching protection. It all ties in. If we allowed open anonymous browsing we couldnt use part of our scripts that we devised.

As seen by example, when there's a good source of data, everybody leeches and copies it. We took steps to protect our site from this as best we could. If you noticed almost all the current eq2 data sites have the same info missing (name of skill required to wield, etc), which points at the highly likely possibily they in some way harvested sony's official pages for the data.

Umm is'nt it cheating to praise your own site from a third parties perspective, maybe you should get another acount with another name and do this??

Will be on the forums very soon, still navigating through the site. But my name is no longer Ghetto Steve it will be Knightvision, anyways you should put up a couple posts for members to add what they think the site could benefit from. The only problem i can see so far is that navigation isnt the easiest, but this is also due to the fact that i havnt gotten used to it yet (If i haven't seen it, its new to me!). Just needs to be cleaned up a little, but i will keep browsing through and see how it works. But a few posts on the forum boards like this would be to much benefit for a new site. I really do like all the info abot each item and npc, which is something i think everyone can benefit from, and the level of detail on them i have not been able to find on any website. I had a few problems with the search engine also, i searched for weapon/dualweid/peircing and didnt get any results, was kind of hoping it would give me a list of all the weapons under that category. But still very nice, descriptions for each item and npc are amazing. I will do my best to spread the word of the website to fellow guildies and friends. Should be exciting to see what this website develops into after a few months.

But remember the name Knightvision, for I will be on and active, but first off need to get the ball rolling with a few more members and the existing members to start posting their questions and such on the forum boards. Oh and did i mention i like the fact that i dont have to pay a fee to use the search engine (whoops, said my thoughts out loud!). laterz - Knightvision

piercing is not a skill on a weapon.

you are looking for "dagger" "sword" etc

Any suggestions on how to "clean" up the layout are greatly appreciated. I have a website comments forum area for things like this.

Hello There,

I made an account and took a look at the site. It looks like it has great potential. However, It'd be nice if you had an advanced search on the quest and the NPC's. Although, to be a brand new site in the working it looks like it has great potential. I love your skills and abilities list its very extensive. Overall its a good site. I don't believe it is quite up to par with Allakhazam though but none the less it looks like it has the potential to be a damn good EQ2 site. Anyways, Good Work and G'luck with the site.

P.S.- I don't agree with everyone who is saying that you shouldn't be advertising your site. I believe it is okay since your not trying to make a profit of your site and your not saying anything against allakhazam either so thats my 2 cents!
#21 Jan 08 2005 at 7:31 PM Rating: Default
Thanks. I had considered doing an advanced search for the npcs. I still may. The only thing stopping me was the lack of info that i could think of to have there. I mean npcs have gender, level and class. Is it really worth an advanced search? That's just my thoughts though. i'm open to future additions if enough demand is there.

There is a section where you can view all npcs in a given zone. This was the most important aspect of npcs that i felt merited it's own section.

You do have a decent layout though =p
#23 Jan 08 2005 at 7:37 PM Rating: Default
Here's a general synopsis right now, Skills / Abilities is our weakest area. We need collectors that play those classes to get us logs to fill in those gaps. There will be a way to search for recipes eventually as well. Right now, recipes are found attached to their respective recipe books / items that come out of the tradeskill combines.

After we've modified the collector program to work with the newest big patch, we'll be releasing a download so people can help fill in some gaps. Keep in mind all the data you see on the site is directly from me and 1 colleague's gaming sessions. I only have a 20 swash, 23 templar, and a 23 guardian. He has a 10'ish sorcerer. Imagine with even a half a dozen people of various classes and locations using the program. )

My bad, (havnt spent enough time on it yet), but i was under the impression that when i selected weapon/dualweild/peircing it would bring all weapons that fall under the category of peircing which isnt just limited to daggers (ie. spears). Still need to do some searching, i think i missed the comment forum area also, well back and forth i go between this forum and eq2archives ^^.

But please people dont me so narrowminded and give the site a chance, actually spend some time on it and see how you like it. Then after you have browsed through it and have a more indepth perspective, post your comments. Dont just click on one link than come back and make a petty comment, your not proving anything by this and makes your comment ignorant and void. Oh, this reminds me of a saying... its on the tip of my tounge.... ummm.... "ignorance is bliss".... there it is, whew i feel better now.

ps. rate me down if u must, ya know if you honestly think that my opinion is the suxxors. Or if that is how you get your jollies ;) I just think im being a little more open minded than most. Always keep and open mind for suggestions, its what makes us evolve so to speak.

Aye, and it should. I'll discuss it with the programmer and see if we can figure out a way to link the player skills with their weapons. or if it comes down to it delete all those extra skills and leave the basic weapon skills / armor skills etc in that dropdown box.
#26 Jan 08 2005 at 8:14 PM Rating: Good
Had a look....was sufficiently impressed to register....nice layout, very easy on the eye and sufficiently rational that even I could find my way around.

Maybe I missed it...is there a way you can search by level required so that I can , for example, find only weapons that will suit my current level?

Overall it looks like you have the basis to provide a lot of solid info. Alla, through its broad userbase, gives better user-mediated commentary but yours can only improve over time.

I'm prepared to continue to give both a go. I guess decision point will be when my Alla premium membership is up for renewal. I'll do a comparison at that point and push the pennies where they belong.
