Hey all, as mentioned eariler im quitting FF and starting Eq2, now i have some questions that i would like to know the answars to, before i buy the game:

1: Do i need a DVD rom to install/drive the game?

2: How much does it cost monthly?

3: I have some friends playing on a Blackburrow server who i wish to join, how can i do that?

4: Is the combat system like in FFXI? better/worse?

5: Also are there Weapon Skills like in FF?

Also what Class is the strongest in Endgame? example in FF it was BLM, RNG, SMN.

Any input is appriciated, thx

I'm pretty sure no one's gotten to the endgame as of yet. The combat system is pretty diffrent from ff11. More loose, chaotic and exciting. It's normal to fight groups of mobs on purpose.
I don't like grouping though, it just dosn't feel right cause im so used to the tighter combat in ff11. There are no weapon skills but every class gets a special attack almost every level.
Also, you can choose your server so you can play with your friends.

hmm a few answers real quick:

1 - no you don't need a DVD drive but without one the game comes on about 9 or so CD's so having a DVD may be a good idea.

2 - 14.95$ a month.. heck just call it 15$ and be done with it.

3 - just select Blackburrow after you get done with character generation, just be sure to check what city they are in (Qeynos or Freeport) before starting.. since it *may* affect your race choice unless you plan on betraying.

4 - I think FFXI had tighter combat as well, but I also think EQ2 is still in the learning experience stage so it's likely more-so that people don't quite *know* how to do the combat tightly yet. with FFXI there was the pre-established methods from the japanese community.. EQ2 we're all still learning as we go. My Duo partner and I can ring off HO's like they're yesterday's news and end fights FAST but working with people I don't normally group with they're far far more difficult to pull off, requiring a lot more communication and coordination...

that said, if you are in a well organized a group, HO's will probably go well..

the rest of the combat is pretty well done but I see more strategy being developed over time.. currently it's a lot of all-out attacking instead of HO coordination (which are they key to quick combat exactly like skill-chains)

5 - weapon skill = combat arts though in EQ2 you'll get a lot more and a lot more often.

6 - I don't think anyone is at the end-game yet.. or if they are.. they're not telling anything about it.. highest level person I've seen was the mid 30's, highest level person I've heard about was the low 40's... if the endgame character balance is anything like the mid-game character balance every class will likely be equally useful, just in different ways.

any other input.. well welcome to the game.. enjoy the quest cause there's a lot of them, since I have no characters on the BB server you'll not see me running about but good luck. ^_^

Lots of lvl 50 people on Faydark aswell and thats a pretty new server.. (some could be transfers ofcourse).
There are some endgame raids etc but my guess is there will be alot more end game in the first expansion wich will be released in the 2nd half of 2005.
SoE keeps supporting the community aswell and plan on bringing out 2 expansions per year and alot of the miniexpansion called Adventurepacks. (Not everyone agree this is a good thing though).
And beside what every other post here says, there are weaponskills..
You have Axe, range, piercing etc. So its good to swap between diffrent kind of weapons to keep all skills on a high lvl. As you lvl the skillcap will increase.

There are 3 diffrent kind of lvling for you to do.
- Adventure (Normal stuff, kills, quests etc to lvl up)
- Artisan (tradeskills)
- Guild (your guild can lvl through writs. A higher lvl guild unlocks diffrent raids and you can use guildstatus points to buy stuff)
This is a short explanation but as you might imagine there is tons of content allready. I suggest you get going!
