Confused Guardian Needs Your HelpFollow

#1 Jan 07 2005 at 8:44 PM Rating: Decent
I have a lvl 20 Gaurdian. I have almost all my vangaurd armor escept for my bracers and boots which I think I'll get during the Armor Quests. Right Now I have about 900 AC and most of my defense buffs are apprentice ones, another problem which might be holding me back is that the left side of my inventory is all very crappy. Here comes the problem, I'm not sure of many ways to make quick cash so by the times I get enough money to buy new spells It wont matter because ill be way behind when it comes to my eqiupment and once i save enough for better equipment I'll be stuck with outdated spells. It seems that I am in a rut. Right now my guys really isnt much of a tank and I was just wondering if I could get some advice.

Dear confused:

This is a rut that many people are experience including myself. What I learned is....Stop buying armor. There are tons of armor quests out there to be had. Aside from the obvious AQ 1-6 quests, there are many armor quests and drops. Carbonite armor drops often in the Steppes and there are quests for a nice bp, arms, bracer and helmet (from Baubleshire), and also a very nice bow quest.

I am almost level 24 now and hunt primarily in the Steppes. I can make almost a gold a day by hunting and doing my artisan taskmaster collection quests (good easy coin).

Just like EQ1, hang in there...the money will come.

Mufin, I would start using the Advanced Search on the Quest section of this site. And start going through the Cities and picking out Quests. At level 17 I am finally trying to do all the quests I can. And I am getting Coin for it to. And if you don't need the Items you can always sell them to merchants or to other players to make more coin.

Also, shop for which merchant you sell your drops to. My best buyer is in QH. An item 'in the field' merchants offer 70c for, I can sell to her for 1s+. And the multiplier gets better with better drops.

Also, in TS, we cleared a gnoll camp with a distressed merchant in it. After clearing it, she bought our canine incisors for 11s each!

I can't really agree that you should stop buying armor. There is some very good player made armor out there. The best armor you will get, however, is boss drops. Quested armor is also very nice, but for quick and decent upgrades player made armor is a very viable means to keep up.

The majority of my armor was player-made through my early 20s. I have since gotten a few non-player made, dropped armor pieces, but I will soon switch off to player made again with feysteel, already have a few feysteel armor parts.

I've not once had a problem tanking.

Make sure you are getting the player crafted and not the store bought armor, mostly noticed by the players name listed on the armor stats, but also noticed by having actual stats and not just AC.

yep, at the very least you should get the carbonite breastplate tho as the AQ's are time consuming some quite difficult, havin purchased the body peice can make gettin the rest alot easier to do. my favorite all around merchants besides distressed ones that only buy stuff are the wholesaler merchants in craftin zones, they give top $ prices on all goods. at around 20-22 SK i had close to 1200 AC(without buffs) an this was b4 the new patch where they changed the value system around. so as a guardian with a shield at 20 i would be thinkin you should have around 1500 atleast since the new ac numbering system. your wearin good defense accessories right? it might be temptin to hold onto like your fighter ring which added like +4 str but only gave like 10 defense, but you should chuck that thing an get something with like 20+ defense + other stats aswell maybe a few dex points to bump your AC up aswell

As a 28 SK, wearing a good amount of player crafted armor and some dropped/quested pieces - have round 3250 ac unbuffed.

Once I hit 29 (prolly tonight, just need to stop putzin around) I should be able to upgrade a good bit deal.

Well, I am now prety much settled for levels 45-46 in armor wise but that left me with 2 gp and 66 silvers in bank..
(of course there is armor drops for +40 but those are rare and far between..) I seriously think you need to work on your crafting etc skills or be extremely lucky bastid to have money even at lv40...

Well with vendor bought Armour, I was able to hit just under 1400 defence. Now that I am starting the AQ's I am slowly hitting about 1600 in defence. I am hoping to have about 2k after I am down with the AQ's. And I am only level 20.
