save your pennies...

be a paladin or shadow knight...

have a VERY generous friend...

to my knowledge those are the only ways to get a horse.

Unless you are a level 6 mage with 2 platinum then yes it means you cannot have a horse.

For transport you use your legs (Shanks' Pony Smiley: smile) or for some runs you can fly by Griffon from Griffon Tower to Griffon tower.

The zones are not that large that this doesn't give you all the transport you need.

technically you can have a horse at any level...

problematically however it's impossible to have one before you get to Qeynos or Freeport...

once you get to either city, it becomes a problem of finances.. my richest character has just over 6 gold to her name... The cheapest horse costs just over 3 platinum, or in other words.. a little more than 300 gold.. O_O Soooo if your mage has the 300+ gold to get a horse at 6th level, I sit *GREATLY* impressed... perhaps if you joined a very rich guild it's possible.. otherwise, not very likely at all....

sooo without some serious coffers or generous friends it's time for a lot of running... the griffon towers make traveling to various locations in antonica a little easier since a tower station is likely to be somewhat close to somewhere you're trying to go.. but on the whole.. running.

course.. advantage to all that running is harvesting resources along to way to a leveling spot. My Conjuror solo's a lot so on my way to my solo spots I'll hit any high-paying resources I come across.. and though Antonica is friggin' huge, once you get used to navigating the place it's not nearly as big as it seems at first. ^_^

edit:
unfortunately I don't personally know anyone who can answer your question about which is the best horse.. FEW people have the money for the cheapest horse, let alone the Elddian Charger (9 plat for him)

Money isn't frustratingly difficult to make, though (like some games). I generally have about 15 gold to my name, and I've upgraded all my armor and spells to a pretty swanky level while I'm waiting for my real life friend to catch up to my level. He's still got a ways to go. Perhaps I can bolster my money-making efforts and get a horse.....

Very interesting about prices .. but what is the difference between each horse?

Which is the fastest ?

Is there any difference at all?

Please lol !

15g isnt bad, but getting 300gs isnt easy. Otherwise everyone and their mamas would have a horse right now.

No, it won't be easy, but I can make around 5-gold a night as it is. It would take 60 nights to get that many as it stands, but I have plans to up my income substantially... Vague plans with no root in reality.

The General Rule of thumb is the more expensive the horse the faster it will go BUT there seems to be several different types of horses from quarter horse to stead and such so you may have to wait and see what horse you like first the buy the fast one of that style witch will be the most expensive one I'm guessing.

by the time you can afford one, i'm sure some spooty-uber will have bought them all and posted a detailed comparison somewhere ^-^.

but, back in the old days, the more expensive mounts did go faster. there were 4 levels, ranging from just barely faster than base run speed with no buffs, to something like 3x that :x. they ranged from 11k to um... 140k?

it's likely, yes, that some will be faster than others, and it's likely to relate to the price.

something else to consider: in eq1, your mount ate and drank from your food/drink inventory. in addition, there were things that could not be done while on a mount. just noting things to watch for :).

i havent examined any of the whistles or trinkets in that merchant's inventory to see if they say anything, so it's hard to say what they've done yet.

I think I'm gonna wait for Droggy's in EQ2 and if they don't come out with Droggy's then I won't be buying a mount : )

Plus I won't have the money for a mount tell they come out with somthing new anyway Smiley: wink2
