Hello,

Have a question...is PvP available in EQ1??
Is there any plan to have it in EQ2?
Any reason to not have it in the game?
Any comment on this will be great.Thanks.

EQ1 have both Duels on all servers, spacific PvP servers with varying rule sets.

EQ2 has No PvP of any sort and has no plans to implement any ayt this time.

Considering the amount of issues caused by PvP in EQ1 most players consider this a blessing.

What issues? what happened in EQ1 that caused PvP was not included in EQ2?

I just want an arena, no pvp, no duels so you don't have to constantly click the decline button. Just an arena to play in with my guildies and perhaps some Qeynosians that wonder in.

The class balance issues, all 5 years of them, it is a saga i have no wish to trawl over.

Surfice to say that when PvP was mentioned on this board as a serverwide addition, the general reaction was total horror and most people mentioned trying out WoW if SoE did do it.

The problem with PVP is not PVP itself. The idea is a great one, adventures wandering about, encountering bitter rivals and dueling to the end.

The problem comes in the implementation. Instead of grand battles between bitter rivals you end up with a couple of high level Ub3r 733T Dr00ds walking around pwning all of the newbs and then hanging around the corpse to make sure they never get it back. Or waiting for someone to finish a PVE battle and then ganking them when they are low on health/mana. What you end up with is a few people with huge epeens and a whole bunch of disenfranchised gamers that go elsewhere because the game is no longer fun.

The other problem with PVP is it creates a whole nother set of balance issues between classes. Some abilities cause classes to become too powerfull in PVP fights.

Take fear for example. In PVE it works great. However in PVP whats to stop people from just fearing others into KOS MOBS? Quick kill for a few mana.

I am assuming SOE decided to focus on other apsects of the game instead of balancing classes for PVP.

I think that PvP could be a nice thing to have.
It has to be defined within certain parameters to avoid those kind of conducts (killing newbies, camping for weakened adversaries, etc) but...PvP is something good.
They can arranged something like PvP among guilds (prior acceptance)..that way it would be like a little war between two guilds for a specific period of time...or something like that...

or on an "one on one" basis but among chars of same lvl etc. etc.
Don't get me wrong, but one cool aspect of all this games is to measure your self against others..AI is great but you never can compare it to Real people...strategies, actions, etc..

Dont know..those are my 5 cents on this.

if you want PvP, look to Guild Wars or WoW.

I'm completely eneamoured by the fact that EQ2 doesnt have a PvP system. I was fed up of being challenged to pvp in EQ1, since I have no interest in it whatsoever, and the only places I've ever found pvp enjoyable is in GW and WoW, where its implemented much better than in most MMORPGs. PvP just annoys me most of the time, I'd much rather spend my limited time online grouping with some friends and enjoying myself, not being ceciled by some stupid fool who has enough time to spend millions of hours levelling up and buying all the "l33t" gear.

My point is that this (PvP) should be YOUR option....not anyone else...see?
It would have been great to have the option..even if no one wants it..

Ahh but shouldn't the option of not having PvP also be yours and not some 12 year old on daddy's PC.

Thats fine and all but given the choice between my $15 a month going towards developers developing new quests/mobs/armor/zones or trying to intricatly balance the classes to be more or less equal in PvP combat most of us would much rather have the focus on the former.

They could have done it like WoW.

On normal servers you choose weather or not you want PVP. The onlt time PVP is forced is if you go to the other sides zones, particularly near their cities. You also become PVP in your own zone if you choose to help defend against an attacking raid from the other side. Or just decide to pick on someone form the other side who happens to be in your zone. Again as soon as your cross the line PVP is auto-on for you for at least 5 minutes.

On PVP servers. You are safe from the other side as long as you're in an area controlled by your respective side. Of course, the same attack/defend rules apply. If you are in a contested zone then you are free game for anyone from the opposing side. If you are on thier side of the fence, enjoy the ***-whoopin you're gonna get.

Battlegrounds are mutual i.e. you know you're gonna die, though they are not implemented yet.

And they are planning a FFA type arena where anyone from any side can kill anyone from any side.

Noobs are protected in a greater way than you might think. All of the starting areas are guarded by the highest lvl guards in the game. Lvl 62, and there are alot of them. Good luck trying to hang out in the noobie area and kill youngins.

So you see, it can be implemted in an orderly and well done format. Anyone who wishes to not be killed by someone can go through this entire game without that happening to them. It is in fact your choice.. woot.

EQ2 is a very good game. With good vs evil they can make PVP work. And they already have the background story to support it..

btw, I do play both games alot.. I have to split my time. :-(
