RAM ProblemFollow

A friend of mine was recently building a gaming computer specifically for EQ2. He had 1GB of ram in two 512 sticks. Each stick had a heat spreader on it. When he put them in the motherboard, the metal from each of the heat spreaders touched each other. Although I didn't know for sure, I told him that wasn't good, but he didn't listen. When he booted up it blew both sticks and the slots they were in on the motherboard. Anyone else experienced any similar problems with heat spreaders (ramsinks) ?

Never seen anything like that happen. I've got heat spreaders on both of my ram sticks and I honestly don't see how contacting each other would cause it to blow up, there's no power running through the spreaders unless they were making contact with some circuits on the mobo.

My guess is that maybe the ram wasn't seated properly. Possibly put in backwards, and with the ramsinks blocking his view, he may not have noticed it.
