As noted this has nothing at all to do with EQ2. But it is a realization I had the other day, and it explains something that's been bugging me for some time (Smiley: confused):

the Cartoon Network show "Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy".

My kids love it. And I must admit I find it perversely attractive... well, I actually like it, too. But I had no idea why - or even what the show was about - until the other day. And then I think I figured it out.

Why do the three boys go by what is basically the same name, but slightly altered? Was that just an empty marketing gimmick, or is there something more to it?

Well, I assumed at first it was just a shallow gimmick - but then in a radiant flash of insight Smiley: eek I realized what is really going on: Freud! Sigmund Freakin' Freud!

The three Eds are the three Freudian counterparts of the SAME BOY. The self-centered, greedy one, Eddy, is the EGO. The physical, dumb, somewhat destructive one, Ed, is the ID. And the smart one with the conscience (but who is almost powerless to influence the others), Edd or "Double-D", is the SUPEREGO.

I know... on one level it's completely stupid and pointless. But ... is the inkblot two faces... or a vase? Squint through the other eye, and this concept suddenly becomes brilliant and gives the show meaning.

Okay, it's late at night. And I'm crazy. But I thought I'd share. And if this helps any of you, I'm glad I passed it along. It helps me sleep better at night knowing this. Smiley: jester

Holy crap... I've been watching it with my own kids for years now. I *never* thought of it like that... Very astute observation, Gnome of the Evil weal.

Great, now I'm going to be overanalyzing all the rest of the cartoons we watch. And I'm so afraid to do that to Spongebob...(yes, I *do* spend much time watching cartoons with my kids... nothing better on TV anymore )

spongebob is ALL just hidden adult humor,

one episode spongebob stonerpants forgets (suddenly forgets?) how to make a ckrabby patty or w/e and when the boss checks on him at his house he has is underwear over his head and his nose looks like the male reproductive organ...

NOT FOR KIDS!

Talkin bout a stoner show...

It is the "advanced" tellatubbies, guessing a subclass or something. Called "Boohbah" on PBS.

Its the most messed up show I've ever seen in my entire life, and just the fact that they show it at 1 AM proves it.

Check out this link if you don't believe me

Witch Hunter is just so bleh.

And your right, Exhile does rock, so does Alchemist. I'm just kinda saddened to hear that Cartoon Network got hold of Alchemist, they always seem to water down and pollute the good shows.

I would also reccomend Great Teacher Onizuka (live series too), Charge! Cromartie High, Black Heaven, Full Moon wo ********** Noir, Zone of Enders: Dolores, Angelic Layer, Furi Curi (FLCL), Gundum SEED, Scrapped Princess, Slayers (1, 2, and 3), and Those that Hunt Elves. Those are the good ones I remember going over my stuff real quick.

Haven't seen it yet but heard Stellvia was good too.

Edit*** I feel bad for you, having to buy your anime =(
Such a huge monopoly on that stuff, $10 an episode and like 24 -50 episodes a series usually? If you do insist on buying it, might wanta check on Hong Kong imports?

I liked WHR... (but I will agree it's not the end all be all that some of my friends make it out to be..) Last Exile is like crack though.. LOL!

and who says I buy them all.. ^_~ but since I do have a pretty nice income I like to support the industry that puts out good stuff.. typically I'll get my fansubs.. and if it truly kicks @%!#@.. I'll buy it when it comes out. That said I allready have Scrapped Princess, Noir, Kiddy Grade, Last Exile, stellvia, etc.. etc...

BUT...

it's good stuff so I'm ok with forking over some cash as a sorta "thank you".. and though sometimes I buy them in the hopes of seeing a good dub (like Fruits Basket or Cowboy Bebop) if the dub sux (which they normally do) I'll switch to japanese in a heartbeat.

I also buy them for the better video quality, but not-too recently fansub video quality has gotten to be amazing.. (look at the quality of the scrapped princess and Kanon f-subs.. ^_^)

Cartoon network got FMA?!?!?!?!?!?!?! oh gawd no.... want to talk about not a kiddie show.. first episode should have told them to leave FMA to DVD distribution... honestly.. =_=, it's going to get totally chopped and watered down to hell in a handbasket.

The smart one is actually Edd, double d. The one with the ego is ed, the plain dumb one is eddy. Just pointing that out :p

Have you ever compare a HK/Asia imports (excluding Japan) to the US licensed Anime. I had totally stop buying them even if they save me a bundle. Image quality is similiar to VCD, & unless you understand japaness, you will became more stupid than eddy from reading the crappy english subtitle.

Since I living in SE Asia, it doesn't matter what they cut from the network as long as they don't touch the dvd ver. I get my anime fix by importing from US.

Actually it cost about $5-$6 per ep & less for boxset bundle if you knew where to find them. (New not Used)

I must say that Cartoon Network is just about the only way I see most of these cartoons.

I like WHR. I am really getting in to Full Metal Alchemist. But Wolf's Rain... yuck. I tried, and tried again, but gee whiz... I just don't get it.

So my next question (as long as we are keeping this up), for you who enjoy the non-Cartoon Network versions of this anime, where do you see it? where do you get it from other than buying a $20 DVD from the mall or electronics store?

Cartoons and EQ... my two non-RL loves.

I'm sure the hardcore forum guys love this thread. A discussion about ed, edd, and eddy. The show is pure entertaining chaos.

For those of you watching spongebob, please stop. The show is trash. However there is a much better show called Invader Zim that is by the creater of spongebob that is the funniest show on tv (i don't know if it's even on anymore but you can rent the dvd's at blockbuster). The humor is still somewhat adult oriented, but I'd let my kids watch it.

For those of you watching anime, check out Naruto. It's by far the best anime series out right now. As of right now it's only subbed since it hasn't been licensed in America (hopefully it never will be). There are 117 episodes right now and every episode is better than the last. Another series to check out (for the lighter side of anime) is Azumanga Daio, very funny but very silly.

Figured I'd add my two cents while the discussion is still goin.
