I am soon to purchase EQ2 because I played it on my friends PC and absolutly fell in love with it..even if it was a tad laggy. :-) However, I am looking into purchasing a bunch of updates for my computer to be able to run EQ2 as smoothly as possible. I was wondering if ya'll that already play could help me out on what I need to update to run EQ nicely.

Here are my system specs:

Processor: Pentium 4 3.00Ghz
Memory:1GB
Display: Radeon X300-128 MB

What upgrades can I give to it to make it an EQ2 machine! :-P

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

uh, nothing... that seems like a decent set-up to me! Im running it on a P4 2.8ghz, 1gig of RAM and Radeon 9800 Pro and it runs just fine, so I think you should be ok O.O

*agree* You've already got an eq2 machine... I run an Athlon 3200+ (2.2 gh, but it's different than pentium), 1 gig ram, and 9800 pro... no lag unless it's very congested, which it isn't normally. You can keep upgrading your machine with this game, but the box hasn't been built yet that can run all the graphical options, it's designed that way... to be upgradable well into the future.

Yes, U already have a EQ2 machine...BUT...if you have the money, and want to update even more your box...well, you can spend those few bucks buying an even better graphics card (There are out there -still hot- new graphic cards with 256MB, check ATI site for that or NVidia site)...price? $250.
I really think it is not necessary, but if you want to do it...

Also you can upgrade your RAM up to 2GB (that is if your pc is capable of it)...RAM is always welcome!!

My machine is a P4, 512 RAM (planning to upgrade it) same video card as yours and the game runs great.....of course, as the other guys said, the game cannot be played in full capacity yet, the options were built to match the future....

OK man, hope to see you out there soon.

Thanks for the input guys! I am going to get the game tommorow and I will just see how it runs before I decide on updates if it runs smoothly I will just wait a while before sinking money into the updates :P

Just FYI, in studies, an athlon running at 2.2 smacked down the pentium 3.0 ... just so everyone knows who's better =p

I am also in a pickle. I am going to buy a new Desktop so i can go out and get this darn game.. I have been lost in a dark abyss of gaming withdrawls after i left Eq1. I can't take it any longer. I need to get back into the kick of things.. Any how i am looking at a Hp it has all the requirement i just want to know it the video card will work with Eq2. It is and intergrated graphics card.. Do i need something different?

buying an hp would probably be a waste of money considering what you could build yourself for the same cost.

tjskrat, i would highly suggest against an integrated grafix card if you play ANY games at all. an integrated grafix card really isnt a grafix card at all, it just steals cpu cycles and eats up ram. if you can, do some online research and build one yourself. you will probably pay around 1/3 the price of a comparable computer if you build it yourself.

my new machine that i own has:

Proc: AMD 64 3700+ 2.4ghz (OC to 2.65ghz)
RAM: 3gb Corsair XMS ddr400 (or pc3200 or 200mhz, whichever) (OC to ddr500/250mhz)
HDD: 2x10k rpm 80gb sata raptors set in striped raid, 2x7,200 rpm 400gb satas set in mirrored array.
Video Card: x800xt pe. also overclocked.

a computer like the one listed above would cost an insane amount of money if any company tried to sell it to you, but its not that bad if you build it yourself.

I don't know of any down there, but there used to be one up in tampa called TCWO but their site has been under construction for a while now. Think something went bad. I would suggest looking online at newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com

Ok I have looked around and priced parts. I have also found in my vass search is that on sale is a AMD Athlon 64 3300+ 2.4GHz processor and 512MB ram 160GB Hard Drive for $649. Is this a good deal?

I went this route.

Shuttle XPC case with AMD motherboard from Newegg (includes an aluminum case, cooling system, power source and a buttload of firewire and usb ports) $160

Seagate Barracude 7200rpm 160GB HD $60 after rebate from Bestbuy

1GB Kingston 3200 DDR SDRAM for $150 from Newegg

Radeon 9550 video card with 256MB RAM for around $100 from Bestbuy

AMD 2800+ chip for $80 from Newegg

NEC Dual Layer DVD/RW +- burner from Newegg $63

Zboard keyboard with standard, basic gaming and EQ2 inlays for $50 after rebate from Electronics Boutique

Neso 17 viewable inch LCD with 16ms refresh rate from Newegg for $210

$875 for a complete system and I mean complete. Not sure of any off the shelf systems for that kind of money. Sure there are better systems out there, but I have no complaints running EQ2 on what I built.

If you use on board sound and not a sound card you can go ahead and subtract 14-20% or your cpu speed =)

www.newegg.com has the best prices anywhere. I went to a local computer shop, and as soon as I mentioned newegg, the guy kind of looked down and said "yeah, uh, I actually buy from there, 'cause even with my employee discount, newegg still beats their price."

yea newegg rocks. very friendly customer service when i did have a problem they solved it in under 24 hours. that and delivery times are simply amazing! i get most of my gear from them although occasionally they dont have a certain item i am looking for and i will buy from somewhere else.

I need some advice! :-) I can either get 2 sticks of 1GB Ram or the Radeon X800..any advice as in to which I should pick to help run EQ as best as I can?
#19 Jan 12 2005 at 5:17 AM Rating: Good
Personally I would go with the RAM for now. Then upgrade the video card when you can. When I went from 512mb to 1gig of ram, I really noticed a change. Yes, a video card is certainly going to help, but I'm willing to bet you'll get a nice performance boost alone by upping that RAM.

Plus, that will help you with everything that your PC does, not just EQ2.

I think I am going to upgrade my system specs from this

Quote:

Processor: Pentium 4 3.00Ghz
Memory:1GB
Display: Radeon X300-128 MB

To

Quote:

Processor: Pentium 4 3.00Ghz
Memory:3GB
Display: ATI Radeon X800 PRO Video Card, 256MB GDDR3

Any suggestions or comments on the video card selection or which one I should chose..or if I need the memory or not?

Also, I am going to look to see and try to figure out how I can overclock my PC. It is a prescott and I have heard that they tend to run a bit hotter..so with adding a new graphics card and then overclocking(That is if I can figure out how to do it) :P should I look to install a different cooling system? Right now I am not really sure what I have but all I know is that it is the stock cooling system that comes with a Dell Dimension 4700.

Thanks!

You'll be fine. I'd kill for those specs.
#22 Jan 13 2005 at 4:03 PM Rating: Decent
just a little advice here cullom : be very, very, VERY, carefull when you overclock. you would not beleive how fast heat can catch ya up and kill your expensive parts. if you are new to it try it on old parts that you already have upgrades to, that way you can see how to break your current parts without breaking something needed. KNOW your specs, on everything. it helps to know. plus make darned sure you have enough cooling. oc'ing can be a good way to get a little bit more performance, but it can also be very dangerous. the stock cooling system on any machine usually is not enough. not by far, look into big and noisy fans with lots and lots of cfm, also large high-quality heat sinks/spreaders are a must. or you could go with water-cooling but if you spring a leak your screwed. good luck and make sure to do lots and lots of research b4 you try anything, because i doubt anyone really wants to fry a $500 video card (done it once, learned my lesson).

Thanks for the warning Plav!

Aye, Done a bunch of research and I am not really that confident to start trying my first time on a brand new machine so I figure Im going to mess around on two of my old machines and leave this one be. :-P
