I have rolled a Darkie priest as a furure project, what i was wondering is how do the 3 class play, in EQ1 the differences in the 3 priest classes was probably the biggest and so i don't want to make any rash class desicions when i have a bunch of fine folks such as you to help me.

My question therefore is what are the broad things i will be doing as each class?

I'll throw in the inquisitor viewpoint for you... You heal. That's what you do. If a druid joins up and slaps the power enhancing spell on you, then you debuff as well. In a group with a decent tank, this is falling off a horse easy. I've mentioned it before to many scoffs and guffaws, but as a templar/inquisitor you can also tank. Only do it in certain circumstances of course: You join a group of 2 or 3 mages and you want to get killing while you wait for a tank or whatever. There's just you, a druid/shammy and a mage and/or scout. The only problem is that you have to urge everyone not to use AEs, and assist faithfully... if they follow the rules then you can pull decent sized groups and keep em mad at you by healing yourself and taking the occasional whack at them. As a 20+ cleric you have heavy armour and awesome HP buffs, so you can tank like a pally without any offence. It works... very well. Maybe also try to be a tougher race, i'm a troll, dunno if it makes any real difference tho : )

I have played a cleric asnd druid both to 20. I decided on my druid and went Fury w/ him. Reason being, I didnt like the fast paced heal of the cleric and bouncing aggro in groups didn't help (I will hit that point later).
As for druid they got more of a Regen based heal setup, you will always be casting regrowth and just touching up whenever need be. Keep your regens up on tank at all times and suggest heal to use thereafter would be Bloom, as it is also regen based and is very cost effective. PPL always ask me why I am not using my Power (MP) and then complain when I start nuking LOL! (O, and SoW helps too!)
Ok, well as for the whole bouncing aggro, you will still get that as a druid, just not as much as the cleric. And I have found that the best group has both, as they can go deeper in dungeons, the regrowth will benefit the cleric a lot and they will be able to keep pulling when other groups have more sit time. In fact you will find tanks complaining more about their power then you are about yours! Hope that helps your decision.

I have only played my Druid to 15 and, since you alrady got that perspective, I will not comment.

I have a 21 Dark Elf Defiler that I am enjoying at the moment. He does not have the regen or power-heal capabilities of the other 2 classes. My strategy has been damage mitigation by use of wards, which Defilers do get. In addition to the general ward, we get an instant cast, no power cost emergency ward, which is nice. I also chose the better ward as my level 20 training spell and it has made a difference IMO.

We do still heal, but I always heal in conjunction with the single and group (did I mention that?) wards. The wards can also generate a decent amount of aggro, so you will be working with the tank to manage that. Group heal is OK in a pinch. I usually use it in an emergency - like to give the tank more time to peel an over-zealous mage type - or at the end of a battle to get everyone's health back up if more than one party member had aggro during the fight.

Defilers also have some maintained buffs, and offensive debuffs and slows. SoW is always nice. At 21 I CAN main heal in Fallen Gate, but I can't daydream while I do it, especially in high aggro areas with the occasional over-pull.

Yep, my Fury's in the same boat. Regen and bloom are very efficient little healers, esp. in a two-healer grop - or even better, in a grp w/ an enchanter (love that mez).

I went Barb. Fury, and for a while I wondered if I'd made a mistake. But when in groups w/out a heavy-duty taunter (MT is a brawler or monk, say - they are great classes but seem to have a harder time holding agro) - I sometimes get a swarm of mobs on me. THis is after tank has area taunted; sometimes my heal just gets agro. I'm behind the tank, so he or she just has t o spin to get at em, and i just stand there and regen myself and cast the odd bloom - and eventually either the tank regains agro - or I ust heal myself as one by one the party kills the mobs. Sometimes I worry about my lower power pool, but so far I've had plenty in most situations. Dwarfs make good furies too and have much more power, but barbs have much higher agi - and in spite of my bad AC (leather plus i haven't upgraded in a while) - I get misses lot.

Was in a grp that let the MT do a solo HO while taunting (it's part of it) and area attacking and area taunting. I don't think I EVER pulled agro off him once, even when chain healing,. Tank's skill and knowledge really is a big factor.

I have a lvl 32 inquisitor, i have to say that properly equiped that you can play as main tank just fine when needed.

I duo alot with a great guardian, and all i have to do is hit him with vitae (spelling?) every once in awhile and just trade off with single HO's, ie: he does one then i do one etc. Mine are for the dmg and his are for taunts.

We take on ^^orange heroic mobs with only us 2 on a regular basis. the dots and reverse dmg sheilds combined with the debuffs and all the vitae spells make for one heck of a fun healer to play.
