1H, 2H or Dual Wield?Follow

#1 Jan 04 2005 at 2:44 PM Rating: Default
I have a level 13 Warrior and have been using a pair of Pristine Bronze Flails or a Hammer & Tower Shield. I haven't seen a 2H weapon worth using yet so I am wondering WHAT I should be using...

Any help out there?

Hrmm... whatever you want?

My first character is a blade junkie and uses a greatsword, sword and board and duel wield swords.

My second character, level 14, only has an iron greatsword and an iron longsword and shield. Both blades are player crafted. I will probably get into hammers with this character.

I like duel wielding because of the almost constant stream of numbers floating up. But I seem to go through mobs faster with my greatsword. This is solo.

Many people will say, for optiminal performance in a group and you are main tank, to use a 1h weapon and shield. Listen to this advice. However, it is also situational dependant. Use your best judgement.

If you're looking for a good 2handed weapon, check out the broker and look for player crafted weapons. Many of those listed have some nice stats to them.

Does this also apply to those of the fisticuff profession?

To be honest, in my opinion, I seem to be doing a tad more damage overall with my furry little fist as primary and a quick crush weapon in mah off-paw. I'm not a number-cruncher but it seems that, though I might hit faster and inflict a number of mosquito bites (4-12 points per smack) in half the time that is takes me to wind up and coldcock an enemy with my paw (20-40+ per sock)I am still dishing out more damage by simply punching; keep in mind I seem to connect with more regularity when I am unarmed. Also, it appears that I inflict more damage with my offhand weapon when I have nothing in my primary hand. *Shakes her head.* An odd little number game ya'll play, no doubt.

Another question in this vein... if soloing, what is better/safer: Florentine ( dual wield ) or with a 2 paw weapon?

Arcos: "Sword and board" and "Honor above all" have a very SCAdian ring to them. Would that be merely coincidence or not so much?

Brawlers are a different story, I would think, since they should be effective barefisted as well as with a weapon. But I do not for know certain as I haven't played a Brawler yet.

Truly told, I'm avoiding the numbers, perfect performance (in terms of game mechanics) thing in EQ2. I deal with it in FFXI, but in EQ2, I'm full roleplaying. So what my characters use, they use because they master that particular weapon or style and not because "sword and shield offer the best AC, which a main tank needs". Granted, I haven't seen many roleplaying groups, so I do bring along a sword and board with me, but I try to avoid a lot of the stuff that could be considered min/max and powergaming.

There is nothing wrong with the min/max or powergaming way of playing, but it's something I personally am not doing in this game.

I'm sorry I do not understand. What is "SCAdian"? I believe this is coincidence, I'm sorry.

I've recently (a few months) adopted the term "sword and board" because tower shields look... well, like boards. ^^ I've always said "sword and shield" even though I've seen people use "sword and board" before.

As for "Honor above all." When fleshing my character's life and path, I chose Guardian from the beginning, so I felt "Honor above all. Protect until death." is a good saying and one that would end up meaning more to him (the character) as he progressed in life and eventually became a Guardian.

When I compared running (solo) sword/shield,dual badlands stillettos and a greatsword I found S/S left me with the most health, Greatsword killed the quickest and Dual Stillettos almost got me killed with a mob I was having no problems with using the other two. No dual wielding for me any more.

Thanks for the info Revfid.

BigSlowTarget: If you're in Qeynos, or have the coin to buy them off the fence in Freeport, get 2 Willow Wood Blade of Service. They give good stats and nice damage (a bit more than the Guardian Quest reward). They work well enough for me and I never had an "almost got killed" moment. But, truly told, I prefer the greatsword anyway. :) You can get 1 WWBoS by completing a quest in Willow Wood. I think it's a population balance, aka kill a bunch of stuff, quest.

Aye, here's the info... Didn't remember it was a 3 parter. hehe... my second character won't be completing this anytime soon (at level 14, the first part still cons deep orange/red) *edited* I might be wrong about con color... as it seems others have completed it at 13~14. Hrmm....

*Nods and dips her muzzle.* My mistake, friend. A "SCAdian" is a member of the SCA or the Society for Creative Anachronism. It's a sort of medieval re-creation society... like Ren-faires, but not so fake. www.sca.org is the best place to get info on it, if ever interested. There is real fighting and archery and such. 'Sword and board' is a term used in Heavy Fighting to, as might be guessedm for sword and shield... mainly deemed such by new fighters, as it is mandatory to learn how to fight with a 'sword' and a 24" round shield.

"Honor above all" is our Kingdom's little catch phrase. I appologize for the mix-up :)

As far as roleplaying goes... I prefer to inflict higher damage attacks because, really, what's a Bruiser's purpose? Even if, by popping my opponent with a flurry of weak blows nets me higher overall damage, I feel strangely unfulfilled. It's kinda like killing a dragon by stabbing it five-hundred times in the tail with a pocket knife.

Just finished the Balance of Life quest in Willow Wood, It took about 2 hours to do the full quest. And I picked the Willow Wood Hunting Blade, then I bought a second one to see what the DPS was going to be like. For a lvl 16 toon it wasn't that bad. Now I just need to get the Bow and it is a good start on improving attributes.
