A few questions before buying.Follow

Im coming from WoW, and i feel its too repetitive and spoon fed and i have some questions before buying. Please, keep the answers constructive and accurate, no level 4s please.

My main question would be, is the game 100% solo oriented like WoW, where its the same thing over and over again, or is it a mix between grouping and soloing where both are welcome.

My 2nd question is, what is raiding like. Its been out around 2 months now, and i assume there are some out there who have experience them, so how are they. A person told me its 24 person instead of 40, and low level raids are possible and take place.

My 3rd question is, how is the class balance. Coming from WoW, where its supposedly "all classes can solo", its not, Warriors are gimp and paladins are best. How is it in EQ2, specifically Shadow Knight. In EQ1, no class could really solo effectively, so what it like in EQ2, again, specifically SK.

My 4th and probably final question is, hows the community, is it a bunch of morons and kiddies like WoW, or is it a lot of ******** and stick ups like EQ1 was, and maybe still is. Or is it neither and its a polite group.

Thanks in advance, i appreciate all help and hope to see you all in game!

Based on my experience and from what I have read on diffrent forums (I read alot at work) :p

The game is a good mix from solo and grouping.
There are alot of quests you can do solo, you have a very good tradeskill system which people enjoy and you can xp decent solo with HO's etc. Grouping is needed for some quests and for alot of encounters. Mobs are tagged 'Solo' or 'Group' which indicates if you can solo it or if you need a group. A group mob is doable solo depending on the con ofcourse. Grey con you wont get any good loot (chests) or xp from though.
When I am lazy and dont want to start a group I go and solo stuff or go tradeskilling while being lfg.

Raiding is 'ok' atm but I am sure it will be better with the first expansion.

All classes can solo pretty good, some classes are better and some are worse but no class suck at solo. IMO classes are abit to balanced.. No class is needed in a group which dont make you feel special at all but it is good since it makes it easy to fill a group.

I have mostly seen mature and polite people but I am qeynos based with all my chars and I have read its abit more youngsters on the freeport side. I say it is a mix of all your 3 categorys but I havent seen many kiddies or stuck ups.. Mostly mature people.
There can be some drama when group wipes or when a single groupmember dies though since group share xp debt. This is the only thing I have seened causing drama and fights.

some I can answer...

1st question: yes it appears to be a good mix of solo and grouping.. I've done a bit of both and though I am a primary solo'er I have done a good bit of grouping.. my main is a Conjuror so one of the biggest things I bring to a group is crowd control and a bit of flexibility in non-standard group setups.. for example, I've done duo's and trio's and we were effective without a healing class in the group.

2nd never been on raids.. thus I cannot say..

3rd can't 100% speak on the third question since I'm a mage player.. however I honestly believe all classes *CAN* solo in EQ2.. the question is *WHAT* are you trying to solo...

my predator can effectively take down whites (even match) and certain yellows.. fighting yellows is risky for that character but it can be done, anything above that.. bad idea. and if it's rated group.. even green.. not a good idea.

my conjuror on the other hand is a solo'ing monster.. able to pretty easily take yellows, whites I hardly even have to get into the fight, anything below white con my pet can take down alone.. my summon is just that effective (for the record, my pet is Adept 1 level which is not low at all but far from *high*).. I *CAN* take oranges but it's risky.. very very careful hate management must be done.. having the pet initiate combat guarantees it will start with hate, but once it looses hate (due to a screwup on my part) it doesn't have the tools to take it back like a warrior (such as taunt) so it's very likely dying time... taking group mobs in a situation other than one on one is a bad idea, however in a one on one situation I have taken down group mobs with double arrows that were "green" con. (equivalent to fighting a strong yellow or orange con)

regardless of your class.. a BIG key to solo'ing are HO's.. knowing how to do them and using them will greatly improve your damage output also understanding your character class helps you know WHAT to fight. My predator solo's best against "people".. she has a LOT of status change attacks that cause a delay to the targets next action.. animals do not suffer from status change effects (such as being knocked to kneeling or knocked prone)

4th so far the community has been pretty good.. helpful, friendly.. I've not bumped into any elitism, unlike tales in "that other game" I played for a while. I suspect there's a lot of kiddies and I have noticed a higher number of shouts instead of /ooc conversations since christmas but I suspect that will change in the near future. Anywho I've yet to truly experience "stuck-ups" OR the "script-kiddie's" in EQ2.

You can solo but the exp is much slower. My main problem currently is the number of solo mobs of a given level range in a given zone is low. If 3-4 people are soloing the same area for exp or quests you can run out of mobs. For instance Bears and sapling rumbleroots in the Forest in Nek or Crabs and Spiders on the Beach in Nek. Those 2 areas have MANY quests thta require killing from 10 to 40 of them. Respawn times are better on average than EQ1 as they seem to be 5-10 min but it is a game of who can engage 1st once repops start.

Supposedly the "Big Patch" is adding more solo mobs and more quests that can be done solo.

I have only done 1 raid so far. There is a "raid" zone off Antonica and Commonlands. These zones require 12 keyed folks to get in and you need to be level 22-25ish to succeed. The problem i see is that everyone is so worried about grinding out exp that they dont take time to get keyed. By time you get 12-24 keyed folks you are most them have leveled to the point that the mobs in the raid zones are now grey or green and they dont want to waste thier time in them.

I really think all classes can solo, but some do seem better than others. By better I mean less risky or can tackle slightly harder mobs. However I got jaded when I had issues with green mobs kicking my butt. I forgot that ++ (up arrows in game) actually mean something. Blues with no uparrows I can do Green and some grey with uparrows are very difficult/impossible for me.

I think soloing is more on the person finding mobs with in his/her capability and not assumeing they can solo the world.

With pet classes soloing will be better once you level some. Just the other day I saw lv26 mage and lv27 Necro (not sure what they are called now) soloing red lv30 and lv31 (solo) orcs in Zek.
