I was forunate to get Tellurian Recruit Adept 1 quite early. The adept 1 version of this pet turns blue con when you hit the low 20's. How pleased I was then to get the Adept 1 version of Igneous Apprentice. How disappointing to find it ha less HP than the Tellurian recruit. I cant help feeling there is something wrong here. Tellurian recruit (level 10 spell) Adept 1 version has roughly 750 HP. Igneous Apprentice (level 20 sepll) Adept 1 version has roughly 470 HP. This does not make any sense at all does it? or am I missing something and maybe Igneous Apprentice is supposed to be one of our 'Fun' spells i.e. useless! Would be interested to know reletive HP of other pets out there for those fortunate to have them. I dont really want to waste any money buying what will turn out to be worse than I already have. I dont mind different pets having different offensive/defensive capabilities for sake of variety but surely there should be some benefit to higher level based pets, not a disadavnatage that makes them next to useless. My HP figures are based on Adept 1 version with minimal buffs (conjuror buffs only).

Also meant to ask how the same versions of level 10 & 20 necro pets compare, if domeone can provide some info.

From a Necromancer's PoV (and if it is totally irrelevant, please disregard):

My level 20 pet (Grim >something<) is a caster, whereas the Tellurian Recruit was a tank. If the AI on my caster pet were better, it'd make a helluva pet; as it is, it loves to run into combat and THEN try to cast spells. If your Conjuror follows the same general model, I'd bet that your level 20 pet is capable of something your TR isn't.

SoE is really into giving classes tradeoffs to deal with. If you get ability X, you have to sacrifice ability Y. Sometimes the tradeoffs prove even. Sometimes not. In this case, I don't think that the pet makes up for lack of inherent class dps. Since Necros are (once again) not high up on the list of wanted groupmates, I am forced to solo extensively, whereas in EQ1, I generally >chose< to solo because I could.

My tellurian Recruit (Spider) casts as much as it melees, Igneous (lvl 20) tries to do the same but with far less HP its a waste of time. As I end up having to heal it at twice the rate of spider I end up getting agro which means 9/10 I have to run. I am sticking with Tellurian for now as a result, which seems a shame.

Agree with you on our ability to melee. I miss far more often than I hit and max hit is pathetic. I know what you mean about trade offs but atm I fail to see quite what my level 20 pet brings to me other than a headache! Maybe with some more posts someone will enlighten me hehe.

Also looking forward to the day when my pet decides not to dance off across the zone with the mob, usually into a hoards of red KOS NPC's hehe.

The reason that Igneous Apprentice has such a low HP is because its a wizard as in the old EQ1 fire pet. Only use this pet in group combat were it deals alot of damage. The earth pet you get at 24 level is the next solo pet.

I noticed a lot of people talking about dancing pets, and getting aggro. I've never seen it happen. My pet can dance right through aggro mobs, and they never touch me. The only time I get aggro, is if I'm too close to the other mobs.

As far as I can tell, (the Necro pets at least) don't draw aggro at all, and you can safely let the thing run off, and just follow at a safe distance to get the XP at the end.
