Pred or Rog???Follow

Hail,

I've currently been playing a Templar as my main but have made a Haffling Scout alt. Heh, think I'm stuck on the shorties. I am torn on going Predator or Rogue. I really can't say if I like ranged or melee attacks better. Could I get some feedback from some of the 20+ scouts here?

I have a lv 20 assassin, and hes ok, actually he gets a pet rat when he hits 20, the problem is that he hasn't really gotten anything too exciting sinse back shot, which is like backstab, only with a bow.

If you like soloing and want to do it with a rogue, I suggest predators.

Hmmm,

I hate soloing and really prefer to group.

Lean towards rogue IMO if you prefer grouping. Several different back attacks, combined with dual fast weapons and poison will make you a damage machine.

Though you may prefer grouping, spend some time solo every other level at least to keep up your parry and defensive skills. Otherwise, even lowly greys will kick your rear. Common problem for melee classes that are not the main tank.

i have a lvl 24 assasin and i love him i can do some nice damage in a group and can solo fairly easy if i use the right combo of attack skills. in groups assasins are great dps if you have one that knows how to play in most groups ive been in i can out dps casters no problem. you just have to make sure you have fast weapons with decent damage and your poisions active.

Both are quite fun. I played up to a mid-20s assassin in beta and I have a mid-20s brigand now.

I really haven't fought much with Swashbucklers and only have some ranger experience so I'll speak to Brigands, Assassin and the Troubadour/Dirges primarily.

All of the scout classes are pretty group oriented. It's very difficult to solo fight because the armor for scouts [medium at 20+] is just not great. If the tank drops, you can probably stay alive better than the paper-mache wizardy types, but that's about it. Besides just contributing to the dps amount of the group, they have a few abilities across the classes which are highly useful : pathfinding, HO switching, disarm & escape.

Bards are the most group oriented. They have good attacks, but the debufs & bufs that they receive are highly useful. The Bria ballads are absolutely great in particular for keeping power high in the party. You can really continuously pull when those songs are running.

Brigands and Assassins have very similar and very pronounced high dps.

Assassins have nice debufs like reducing poison resist and several attacks which could end up doing big damage. They tend to attack best from stealth mode and shrouded strike helps greatly to get them in that position. In many cases, the attacks which assassins use are from behind or flanking. This makes it difficult for the assassins to solo tougher mobs without careful usage of a tactic like cheap shot to stun the mob, move around back, and shrouded strike/etc.

On the other hand, Brigands have more attacks to choose from depending on what your angle to the victim is. The biggest attack in the low 20s for brigand is 'Ruse' which does around 500 pts of damage on average at level 25, and it's an attack from the front. They also have attacks from flanking positions or all-angles as well. They also have a few spells which are great for groups, like Smuggle. Hell, it's great for groups just to go afk for a couple minutes in the dungeon while Smuggle is up ;)

I have enjoyed the scout classes tremendously in EQ2, even though I tend towards solo classes in general. There's just a bunch of different options open to the scout classes while in combat making the play of them highly active and fun.

Hail,

Thanks for the input so far guys. My scout is a Haffling in Qeynos and I am staying good. So, the choice is still tough. I love grouping with other people, as my main is a Templar. Bards sound like a good choice. They have great buff songs, but I'm wondering if I just want to be a dps player. I'm leaning towards Swashbuckler, but Dirge also sounds really tempting.

My main's a Mystic and I started up a Rogue alt (to be a Swashy), lvl 16 now and he's a blast. Not as much peak DPS as Preds but more sustained. Rogues get the group Sneak line which Preds don't, which adds a bit to the grouping flavor.

I am astonished how Rogue-like my Ranger is. While I have the ranged attacks and like them, in a group I am doing immense damage with stealthed backstabs. I definitely do not see me stepping back and using ranged any time soon.

I enjoyed both Rogue and Ranger in EQ1 and so far Ranger seems to have given me the best of both without the endless LFG of the EQ rogue.

One thing I like about Rogue types. You don't have to be stealthed for most of their attacks like Backstab. In the time it takes a Pred to use shadow blade or something, a Rogue would have already pulled off Backstab and Sneak attack. Just have to watch out for the agro. ;P

yep, i love my brigand almost as much as my SK, an definatly more than my mage. ruse is quite fun to use in a pt everyone sees u fall over dead(fake death) then the bad guy takes a ton of damage(doing about 350-400 at 22) plus with eye gouge gives me a front facing backstab basically has the higher damage like a backstab but must be done from the front for obvious reasons. then i have 3 backstabs to run through(makes me so happy that i dont break warrior HO's no more), a 4th backstab type move which is really an agility debuff(Rake), and another defense and something else debuff aswell. i dont really need to use stealth moves at all so the time to go stealth has never been a factor. and as mentioned in another post group stealth is quite handy

Is that the first class quest? If it is then...
http://eq2.gamepressure.com/quest.asp?id=496

If its the second class quest...
Speak with Arrell to obtain pt I. Go to the bottom falls in Blackburrow (Antonica Map entrance at beach is easiest) then go through tunnel in falls make sure you are stealth when you surface. Use hunt and you'll see the spy. Return to Arrell for Pt II. Go to S Qeynos and go south to long row of townhouses, at the north side you'll see entrance to the "secret meeting place" You'll need "Hunt" Apprentice 3+ active as you enter. Go Past the guards and DOWN the stairs. walk past the bodt guards and get around corner. Kill the negotiator and activate "hunt" again. Proceed through the door and kill the second negotiator. Then return to Arrell to complete the quest!!

I have a lvl 26 ranger and i can deal out great damage. Some one mentioned it takes awhile to use shadow blade whcih it does at low lvls but once u get shrouded strike u can use that and ur shadow blade which will add to ur DPS since shrouded strike instantly invis's u after the attack.

Basically I havent found either one to be any better then the other so its just a preference IMO.
