Hey, from another FFXI player, welcome to a much better game.

Yep, I'm also from FFXI! Welcome, and I'm sure you will notice lots of good stuff in EQ2 compared to FFXI, like I have. Some good changes of pace:

1. Items that help you regain power (mana) are actually abundent, and the game is not stingy with them (no 2mp/ 3secs for 1 min lol)

2. You can actually make money crafting from the begining levels! It took a fortune investment to start making any money from your items. In most cases, the ingredients would cost 2-5x more than the item itself sold for. I dont know what they were thinking

3. Soloing is possible! Even after level 12! LOL

4. Pets down suck! BST and SMN were plagued by not having any pets worth charming/summoning until level 20+. Luckly, that is not the case here

5. You dont have to pay an extra $1 a month per extra character! Nuf said :P

6. Spells have much more of an impact. I was amazed to see some of the spell effects, as some of the spells I got at level 14 or 15 would be either high level spells in FFXI, or not in the game at all. One example of this is Soothe Servent. I got it at 15, I believe, and it sets it so that when someone in the party gets hit, they are automatically healed for 40 seconds. I do not even have to heal after casting this spell! I dont think anything like this would be in FFXI, as the spells there just seem kind of "watered down", and weak compared to some other MMOs.

And it goes on and on. I am so much happier with EQ2 than FFXI. Dont get me wrong, I love FFXI, but it just seemd that EQ2 had some issues of FFXI in mind when a few things were changed.

For myself switching to EQ2 from FFXI was a great decision. This game is so new and it makes things so much more interesting. There is no set in stone armor, weapons, quests or the best part no set in stone groups. No more waiting for 2 hours to find a party if you werent a mage or a paladin (which i wasnt). I was a Darknight in FFXI and it was almost impossible to find a party past lvl 50 unless you found a static party (which I did and it got me to lvl 60 before i retired it about 2 months before the release of EQ2).

The thing i enjoy most of all is the economy, no more farming for months on end to get the best gear, now it has to be quested or just a simple lucky drop off the mobs you exp from will get you enough money for that new shiny peice of whatever you have your heart set on. IMHO the economy is the main downfall of FFXI, fighting mobs that are way past your lvl in FFXI just to get the best exp imaginable made it hard to keep gear up to date. I was a Darknight and if i didnt have a set of 2 sniper rings and a Haubergeon i was crap, i had to have +30 accuracy just to be able to hit the mobs that groups often fought so they could get the best exp imaginable.

All in all I am very impressed with EQ2, its hard switching from a game that there was little you didnt know about to a brand new game where you know very little about. Makes the gaming experience so much more interesting! The only thing i miss from FFXI were all my friends in my static party (Sotatale, Cyberghost, Sammison, Reaper, if you guys ever get your **** off that game you better get a hold of me!). But the thing i realize is is that I will meet new friends and already have. I recently got into a guild that uses a Voice server software so i can directly talk to my Guild mates, absolutley awesome.

So good luck TheForgiven and welcome to the wonderful world of EQ2. You will be so impressed that you wont even look back ;)

I'm here from FFXI as well.

Former 55 Pld, 36 Mnk, 30 War, 14 Drk, 14 Bst from Ramuh named Ivven.

Needless to say, as you can see from my SIG, FFXI isn't really
part of my gaming day anymore. 2 million was way too much to spend on a lvl 40 mnk, so I said ***** it and came here.

yet another former FFXI player...

the game was fine.. til about 30th to 35th level, when the cracks in the gameplay mechanics became 50-mile wide canyons which could only be traversed with a static party and an extreme amount of *very had to get* money & items...

simply put.. EQ2 is, for the way I want to play, the better game.. there's simply no better way to put it. I feel as though my characters are capale and strong.. I don't cower in utter terror at the sight of easy prey.. I don't feel "gimped" if a particular item isn't 100% up to date cause I like the stat-gains I get from it.. etc... etc.. etc.. I could go on, but why?

anywho, welcome abord.. if you're on Toxxulia (my main), Oasis, or Crushbone.. say hi. ^_^

Hail and well met. I, too, am from FFXI. :D Still playing it though. Can't neglect the friends... at least until I convert them. :P muahahahaha...

you should feel right at home since virtually all the new stuff was ripped off from ffxi.instances, housing only played a few times in eq2 but i am sure i will find MORE 'borrowed' stuff.

Well Milaria... if it works, why change it? Also, if we're pointing out similarities of EQ2 to other MMOs, let's not forget the item con system that is very similar to both Horizons and Dark Ages of Camelot. Let us also remember that unlockable player races was also a draw in Horizons, as was your Crafting skill having a level all unto itself. Nothing wrong with taking an existing idea and putting a new polish on it. We must remember, Catholicism is nothing more than a pagan religion with all the names of the 'saints' and rituals changed. :)

Geez... reading what you former FFXI players say about the game sound very similar to the first two years of EQ1... I'm infinitely glad I never picked Final Fantasy up because it sounds downright painful! It was the single character per account that turned me off. True, you only start with four characters per account... but for two dollars you can add another four slots to the account. As well as the option to buying Journeyman's Boots and a pet dragon for your house. *nods* Not a bad option, in my opinion. There are also little perks that show the devs really do appear to care about the player.. Hunter titles, Station titles, quests that actually give you real rewards. If the only thing 'bad' about the whole thing is that it's a conglomeration of ideas from other games all I have to say is at least they're *good* ideas. Whatever gives me a good experience for my monthly fee.

Welcome to the game, regardless. It's not a perfect MMO but it's about time one came out that learns from the mistakes of the other ones!

Just wanted to reply as a formor FFXI addict for well over a year.
Lukas on Lakshmi server~
60Thief, 52 Paladin, 50 Warrior, 48 Darkknight, 25 ninja, 25bard. and many many others.

The ONLY thing that has turned me off about this game is the fact that you cannot change jobs on the same character. As you see above, those are ALOT of job classes.... all on the same character. If i got bored, i didnt have to start on the Isle of Refuge everytime. It took me literally 7 characters just to decide on Predator, one of my characters looked Exactly like my present Half-elf, but i had to restart it because rogue wasnt as good as Pred sounded, and i was right.
Anyway, /salute to my FFXI Vets.

ho ho ho! i recently got back on my FFxi account after a bit of a break and the 90day inactivity policy got all my characters deleted. Played on Fenrir as Yuckfou, Spooner & Pennylane. 53PLD/30WAR/36WHM/18BLM/38RNG/35THF..... changing jobs was always a hoot but i dreaded getting on late nite only to find the Japanese excluding you from groups. on top of starting a year late.

Currently I'm on Guk server makin the monk i never had in FF :P what servers did the rest of you former FFers play on? and are monks better off with bare fists, fist wraps, duel wieldage or staves and such?

good to see i'm not the only one leaving FF. Good Game
