Do the horses at stables have different speeds? Anyone know how fast the cheapest horse is?

Seems I was running faster than a paladin horse, had SoW on.

Its only logical that the performance of the horse is proportional to its purchase price.
However, since not that many people have been able to raise enough money to buy horses yet, we still do not have any hard facts as to the horse stats.

The paladin horse is supposed to be just a "fluff" spell so it was not meant to give any significant speed advantage.

Its jst to look cool, and so they wont be lonely! Well, like you said, it gives them about the same as SoW.

I was actually very happy when I found out about the Paladin spell for the horse, as when I saw one for the first time, about a week and a half after release, I was thinking "Oh my God! People have already gotten over 2pp O.o!! And I have about 25sp ='("

I don't think the Paladin horse is just fluff. It starts off slow, but gets better as you level.

Paladins on their summoned horse always outrun my scout who has pathfinding on. And, not by just a little.

One thing to keep in mind when thinking of actually buying a horse is that the cheapest horses that cost about 245 GP are about the same speed as the pally and SK horses, and that the more expensive horses will indeed be faster than that.

Yes, this is something that we are going to be dealing with much further into the game, I feel. This, I'm sure, is set up for the higher level players with too much money, just like in EQ1.
