Strange computer problem, please helpFollow

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to read this and possibly help me out. I have a Dell XPS Laptop and lately I've been having a terrible time getting EQ2 to run properly. After a few minutes of Running EQ2, I begin to lag so bad that the game is basically unplayable. I have a DSL connection, so i had a hard time believing that this continual problem is with my internet connection. When I ctl+alt+del to look at my system performance, I notice that while I am playing EQ2, my processor is using between 95-100% of its resources ALL of the time. I have no other programs running in the background, and i have disabled all of my anti-virus software. I even ran multiple spyware and virus checks to see if the problem might be because of something like that. I have my settings set to extreme performance and it hasn't seemed to help at all. Please help me, I really need some advice or direction to go with this. My specs on the XPS are as follows:

P4 3.4Ghz Extreme edition
2GB of RAM
256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9800
80 GB 7200 RPM Hard drive
and as I said before, I'm running on a DSL connection.

I know that a laptop probably has some performance issues when compared to a desktop, but it just doesn't seem right that with the hardware I have it should be this bad.

Thank you very much in advance for the help

My first recommendation is run spybot and adaware to make sure you don't have malicious programs running in the background. Secondly I would advise putting up a firewall if you can run EQ2 through one. You might, and I am no expert here, have a malicious program using your computer for nefarious purposes and soaking up resources.

Your specs look fine, my desktop probably isn't that powerful. I'm running an AMD 2600+, 1 gig RAM, ATI 9550 with 256 Ram and have a seagate 160 GB drive that is really fast - but then again pretty uncluttered.

If you have checked for spyware and adware and you're not finding any I don't know what to tell you.

Wow.. it should take eq2 and have it's way with it. Try getting latest drivers. And as for the 100% of your cpu? That's wierd. Try posting this in tech support forum. =/

i would run a scandisk and a disk defrag as well. and make sure you have all the latest drivers from dell.

also did you install SP2? or did it come already installed when you purchased your notebook? i ask because ive had many computers brought to me and they were running slow in all applications when clients would install SP2.

the solution was to reinstall the OS and install SP2 right after the OS install

There would be the problem Laptops/notebooks do not have the same type of CPU as a desktop machine. My Sony Vio 250P will play EQ1 with everything turn off ok but pukes with it turned on. And it will not play EQ2 at all will do the samething yours will do. Not much you can do about it, its the nature of the beast. Laptops where not made to play high end games on :P of course you could spend $5K plus to get one built for you that will play EQ2 but then you could buy a desktop machine for 1/5th of that price that would rock.

Just my 2coppers :)
