Warning to all Resource Collectors:Follow

#1 Dec 31 2004 at 3:24 AM Rating: Decent
If you have rare resource items, do not complete a tradeskill quest of the same type (ore, rock, roots).

Example: I had a fir branch today, tier 2 rare item from forestry in the Steppes.

I went and finished my wholesaler quest for severed ash, and it took my fir branch.

Watch out and be careful with your money, or else you'll be pissed and generally unsociable like me.

I always hate to be the bearer of bad news, but dont most MMO companies have a blanket policy about not giving items lost to bugs, as it is too hard (so they say) to verify that you had the item to begin with? In other games (including EQ1), it was my understanding that they offered their condolances, and promised that it was being worked on so it would not happen again. But, good luck on the petition! They may not enforce this, as it is early in the game, and there are bound to be tons of item losses, and it would be bad for PR right now to cause any negative stir among the communities over something that could be very easily fixed. Just give the item. Whatever. Unless they are saying they lost 15 corals to the bug ;)

When they finally answered my petition, they did reimburse my log. So I'm pretty happy bout it. It shouldnt' be that hard to read a character log and see what items he had and when they left. Just have to give them a min (which is about all it took for the GM to decide) to look and find out.

Damn it. I did this before with tubers I had gotten lucky or they nerfed the drop and he gripped on two of my sisal roots needless to say flipping him off for 5 minutes was fun but I didn't know there was another option, I figured I was just sol. Will have to remember that. Also I noticed when I got the quest that says tuber roots the quest update says sisal roots when I turn them in. I will head back and flip him off some more now that I am mad again.

Consider yourself lucky. Generally they do not reimburse items. I've petitioned myself. It's the exception to the rule. Don't expect them to reimburse you. Just be happy when they do.

Yes, that is icredible that they did, and I have never heard of any company doing that before, not even my friend who lost three blackened ores during an update. He petitioned, and they said that they cannot confirm that it happened, and so they could not do anything but apologize, and say they were looking into to make sure it would not happen again. Like others have said, consider yourself very lucky! That is definetly not their normal course of action, nor any other MMO company.

I think there are a few reasons for this blanket policy:

A. They dont want ppl abusing it, saying they had items they did not

B. They may get too flooded with requests if an issue happened that caused a large percentage of players to lose items.

Just for the record, as an old-time EQ1 player... SOE *always* reimburses equipment/items due to a complaint *when they can confirm* what happened.

In other words, if the logs tell them that one moment you had it, and the next you didn't, and *you* didn't do anything to cause it to go "poof" (i.e. you didn't trade it away, sell it, destroy it, drop it, etc.), and it isn't a dup on their item watch list, then you will get it back. That was never a problem in EQ1. The problem in EQ1 was getting them to *respond* to a petition in something less than 12 hours (and, originally, you had to *stay online* for that amount of time, because the moment you logged out your petition was removed from the queue).

Also remember that this game is only 2 months old. This policy may be loosened in the future. But it's possible that they have their hands full taking care of all the other issues which might pop-up in a new game.

No, I don't have any sort of inside info, I'm just putting out my feelings on the reason for the policy.
