You have to place a bulletin board in your house then you can turn yoruself into a merchant while there. You do have to be online to sell stuff though. You can togle on and off the merchant status, but can only sell stuff while in your house.

To clarify further...

The merchant at the inn where you purchased your inn room, asked you if you would like to be an Adventurer or a Craftsman. Of course you can be both as they are independent of each other. In fact, I'm a lvl 22 Ranger and a lvl 32 Woodworker. That question serves no purpose really and is in the game to facilitate roleplay. I will say that it is speculated that in the future, that question may play some significance as to what type quests you get in town or out of town. Obviously, someone who wishes to do nothing but craft would not level as an adventure and would have a hard time doing "kill 10 wolves for me" type quests that some NPC's now give as quests. So it is speculated that this question may "flag" players in the future for getting quests based on that choice, hince a craftsman would get quests related to doing tradeskill stuff in town for various NPCs. But as of right now, it has no affect on your game experience.

As for selling your collected or crafted items. You can buy a bulletin board in your starting city. Usually the merchant right beside your inn room. Place the bulletin board in your inn room, a wall preferably, and access your "store" by clicking on it. Everything that is in your inventory (not bank, just personal inventory) will be displayed. Items that you wish to sell, place a price on them, and hit ok for each one, the colum marked "for sale" will change from no to yes for that item and you should see the price you set. Once you have all items priced, click the button for Start selling. Now all of your items you have priced and marked to sell, are available for the entire city to purchase either through a broker at various locations around the city, or by visiting your inn room or house and buying directly from you. You are not required to initiate a trade if someone visits your room. You are in a sense, a merchant just like the ones in the city. A player can right click on you and select "buy from Merchant" in the drop down lists and view and purchase items you have for sale.

As for broker purchased items, if a player wishes to purchase your wares through a broker, the broker will automatically remove the item from your inventory and place it in the buyers inventory, while also removing the coin from them and placing it in your inventory. You should also note that the broker collects a 19% fee for the transaction which is charged to the buyer, not you the seller.

A few other things worth mentioning about the bulletin board or "store" are the ability to search the "market" and view your total sales and sales for current session. If you look at the top of the "store" window screen, you should see a tap marked, "sales log". This displays all sales you've made during your current session as well as total coin in sales at the bottom. There is also a total for all time sales in coin at the bottom. On the origina tap of the store window there is also a button for the market. This is just like the broker window. You can view all available items for sale at that time throughout the city from your very home, but cannot purchase them. This is useful if you want to check what an item is selling for (market value) to give you an idea of a price to set.

Have fun and get rich!

Tip.. If you are not a crafter at this time, i would suggest getting all of your gathering skills up. The various "nodes" or things you see while running around adventuring, such as shrubs, roots, tree limbs, rocks, are tradeskill "nodes". If you double click these, you can harvest items from them that are used for tradeskills provided your skill is high enough for the zone you are trying to harvest in. Why would you want craft items if you aren't crafting? Well, crafters need them, so collect a bunch and place on your merchant every night and you should see a nice steady supply of coin coming in for doing nothing but spending a few extra seconds gathering those items while out hunting!

Thank you!!! Thanks for the info! :-) Are thos furnitures you put in your INN has any effects on your abilities? Cause in FFXI, whatever item you put in the mog house, they give you a boost of certain abilities according to the type of furnitures you put in... wondering if this is the case in EQ2.

I've read that SoE might make it where the more stuff you have in your house, the less rent you have to pay. I don't know if this is definite, it's just something I've heard. I hope they do implement that, though.

I dont think it affects the rent amount when paying with cash, but it reduces the required amount of prestige points if you are paying the rent that way. I am currently not in a guild so not exactly sure how that works.

There are certain houses that can be purchased as your guild level grows. These houses are identical to normal coin houses in layout, but cost half the coin. The rest of the upkeep cost is paid in status.

Certain furniture items will reduce the status cost, even down to nothing.

It's important to note that guild level and status does NOT reduce prices on anything, dispite rumors to that effect. What it does do, and the source of those rumors, is to allow you to purchase SEPERATE yet similiar things at a discounted coin rate, but you pay status points in addition to coin.

Like houses don't cost less. Instead, you get access to optional housing that has the same cost, but is paid half in coin, half in status points.

The same with mounts, as you're faction with certain city groups raises, you get access to special rewards that can be purchased with a combination of status and coin. These are often cheaper in terms of pure coin. Many of the faction merchants sell alternative mounts, like phantom horses or flying carpets. These are once again, seperate mounts, not the standard ones.
