WOW! what to doFollow

#1 Dec 28 2004 at 6:22 PM Rating: Decent
WOW this game is intense. I had heard about the 1st one but this is way more than i thought. So for my first time playing everquest i kinda feel lost. Everybody is talking about grouping and lfg and all these other short terms. and i chose warrior(iam lvl 10) but all i have is my citizenship sword and really crappy armor. I have barely used my crafting skill( i really dont know what use they serve me) and iam about to lose my house, which i dont really care since it serves me no purpose anyway.

Does anyone wanna help a TRUE NEWBIE and explain what i should do next.

LVL.10
RACE. DWARF
CLASS. WARRIOR
WEAPON. CITIZENSHIP SWORD
SHIELD. NONE
ARMOR. BASIC

ALSO WHEN IAM IN A GROUP BATTLE WHAT IS SOME GROUP ETIQUIETTE
AND WHAT IS MY ROLE. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE MY "SPECIALS" AND GROUP SKILLS.

Coming from Freeport, I have different mobs and whatnot. So. To answer your questions. You're a lvl 10 warrior, great choice if you're new. I guess learning the terms for casters would be kinda difficult. Few sides notes

LFG= Looking for group (you can't group with people too high, or people too low)

If I were you I'd do as MANY quest as possible. If you go through your journal, you'll notice that the colors of the text in your journal correspond to the difficulty of the quest. If the quest letters are Red, don't attempt it yet. If it's Blue, white, green, you can handle them by yourself more than likely. You'll get a lot of money from soloing by yourself, this is where my income comes from most of the time. I also hear that if you harvest A LOT, you can eventually harvest some pretty rare stuff. So think about that as well. Your house will come important once you start selling. But eventually the 5 silver every week is chump change. I have about 75 silver at the moment (I had 4 gold, spent it all on armor.. you'll have to do this eventually as well)

As for the usage of your skills. I guess it all depends. As a warrior your main job is just to keep aggro. If you're by yourself, move at whatever rate you're comfortable at, use your skills all you want. But when you're in a group, I normally don't care about DPS seeing as that's the other classes job. I simply hit hard enough just to keep the aggro of the mob. But when the time comes to seriously do damage, my skills can hit for 100 and I'm only a lvl 20 guardian. Until you hit 16, just solo most of the way. And do as many quest as possible. And remember that you can always sell loot to PC's for at least twice as much as the NPC.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like good advice. Just a few more questions what is "aggro" and DPS. And i picked up a staff that is better than my citizenship sword so iam using it. how will that affect my skills and what sword is good for advancement and not more than 20 or 30 silver?

aggro and hate are the same thing. it is the level to which the NPC you are fighting dislikes you. The player in the group who raises his level of "hate" to the highest is the one that the NPC will target and attack. Hate is acquired by doing all things which are bad for your enemy. This can be damaging him, healing your allies, buffing yourself or your allies, or debuffing him.

as a warrior, you will most often end up as the "tank", which is the designated person for the monster to attack and hit. as the tank, you will always want your hate to be the highest, and therefore have the monster hit you. "DPS" is Damage Per Second, and refers to classes that are meant to deal damage to the enemy. Examples are rangers, wizards, and assassins (predators and sorcerors for your level).

as for weapons...........i suggest browsing the boards. with tons of people in there early and mid 20's around now the market is flooded with great newbie swords and armor. as suggested above shoot for items that are yellow to you.........you should be able to get a great sword for your level between 5-15 silver. being a warrior i would use a 1h and a shield. buying player made stuff will get you items with stats which will keep you at the fore front of your class = to your level.

DPS = Damage per Second, which we do not have very much of. But we do have taunt skills to maintain aggro. You'll note you';re getting new attacks and new taunts all the time added to your Combat Skill book. You can create hotkeys, which is what that bottom bar is on your computer with slots corresponding to 1,2,3 ... -, =. Basically you just open your skill book and drag and drop the skill into the slots. Now you can just hit the buttons and it activates the skill. Skills are colored just like the quests. Make sure you are using the orange and blue skillsets.

Also, if you are MA make sure you are using both taunt and shout, and a group buff (ths causes aggro)to maintain aggro.

Since It was hard for me to get armour and weapons here is some help. This is what i did. Do quests for these people to get some awesome rewards:

North Qeynos:
Talk to the lady in the Clothes shop, the one at the counter will give you a quest to kill 4 great bears in Oakmyst. Gather a group and do this. Then next to her is another lady, she will give you a quest to kill 5 antonican bears. These can be young bears, or kodiaks or whatever. This will reward you with awesome greaves and shoulderpads.

Baubbleshire:
-Talk to a gnome on a little island, he is an alchemist. He will tell you to kill 3 Oakmyst defenders (the golems in Oakmyst). He will reward you with one of four (i think) weapons. I chose the flail (damage goes well into the 30s).
-Go to the armour shop and talk to some dwarf behind the counter. He will ask you to get badger pelts. He will give you Badger Pelt Armguards.

Starcrest Commune:
I THINK this is the right quest. But i'm not 100% sure, but you should check it out anyway. There is an alchemist (he keeps saying something bout annoying girls and stuff). Talk to him to get a quest to kill elementals in the Forest Ruins. Once you do this he will give you a choice of shields (buckler, tower or kite).

Hope this helps, and don't worry about finding a chestplate, because your class-quest armour will do you for ages :). You may want to buy some gloves/boots and maybe a helmet. But I found an awesome pair of boots in Antonica from a chest. The other parts of the armour cost me around 3-10s.

For a good cap at your level, check out this quest given by Marshall Surefoot in the Baubleshire:

http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?&eq2quest=62

For some boots, try this one from Lozoria Shinkicker also in Baubleshire.

http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?&eq2quest=14

Another good boots quest, but slightly higher level from Dane Steelfist in Greystone yard. It's a three parter but if you can finish it the boots are good well into your teens:

http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?&eq2quest=182

Basically I just went around to every burrough and talked to everyone and did every quest I could find. Those alone took me to level 14 quick. Good luck to you, and good hunting.
